Fibromyalgia

  • MEDICAL ANIMATION TRANSCRIPT: Fibromyalgia is a chronic or long-lasting condition. It causes muscle and joint pain all over your body. The exact cause of fibromyalgia is unknown, but it may be a problem with how your nerves and brain sense pain signals. People with fibromyalgia are much more sensitive to sensory experiences, such as pressure, heat or cold, bright lights, and noise, compared to people without fibromyalgia. Things that may increase your risk for it are a family history of fibromyalgia, physical or emotional trauma and stress, having certain diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus, having anxiety and depression, being female, and being middle-aged or older. Common symptoms of fibromyalgia include body pain and tenderness, feeling very tired, problems sleeping, thinking and memory problems known as "fibro fog", and headaches. Other symptoms may include tingling or numbness in the hands and feet, mental health problems such as anxiety or depression, and digestive problems such as irritable bowel syndrome or gastroesophageal reflux disease. Since there is no cure for fibromyalgia, treatment for it focuses on relieving your symptoms. Treatments may include medications, lifestyle changes, and psychotherapy or talk therapy. Medications your healthcare provider may prescribe to help reduce pain and improve sleep include antidepressants and anti-seizure medicines. You may also be advised to take over-the-counter anti-inflammatory pain relievers. But fibromyalgia doesn't cause inflammation, so they often aren't helpful for fibromyalgia pain. Certain lifestyle changes can help you manage fibromyalgia symptoms. These include getting enough sleep, regular exercise and staying active, and eating a healthy diet. The goal of "talk" therapy is to help you change the way you think or act. It can help you learn ways to cope with your symptoms and provide you with support. To find out more about fibromyalgia, talk to your healthcare provider.

    I love it when you tell your doctor that every rib feels like it's deeply bruised and then, they poke a rib. I almost came off the table. I guess he believed me after that. Fibromyalgia sucks, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

    Fibromyalgia is horrible, so painful every second of everyday, tired but can’t sleep, it is like a continuous roundabout, going round and round and never stopping.

      It is shocking however that it isn’t men which more commonly are diagnosed with fibromyalgia, as they are subject to intense pain to a densely innervated part of the body during circumcision. This may change the CNS pain response, it no doubt affects the development of the brain dramatically as we know how newborn to 5 year old brains are most formative. Male genital mutilation is more common among men than women so these numbers do not match. This is peculiar yet I have my speculative ideas as to why this is.

    • @jesusreturning3003
      @jesusreturning3003 9 месяцев назад

      @@leroycustis3549 - Circumcision is in the bible, if God thought it would cause Fibro He wouldn't allow it.. After all it is God who created the body, He can do what he wants with it, however, no, it does not pose a threat to men like you say. Lets not lean onto human understanding God is bigger than that, and its not mutilation when God allows it, it only becomes mutilation when men begin to do sinister staff to the body like having female area's cut off, etc.... Dont listen to false reports created by men that dont make any sense at all... God knows our anotomy better than us, He created us, and our bodies are resilient...
      Ps: God miraculously has healed me of things I should have died from, so I know miracles exist, and I have overcome that illness, but now I need God to help me with Fibro, and I know he will because i have seen him do it before, He will do it again, and I have seen him also repair other peoples bodies, our bodies are resilliant even if we are the problem to some of our health issues.

Can't see a future the way I once did I am single no way could imagine having a partner it wouldn't be fair as I can't do the "normal" things in life ie going on nights out even going for long walks. Anything perceptual that you can’t measure = not real
    This old school way is not a holistic valid medical approach. Suffering is real. Shifting towards a broader scope of how perceptual and sensory differences appear is critical. Fibromyalgia, neurodiversity, just because it’s brain related doesn’t mean it’s imaginary. It means we need to study the brain to lower suffering. Happy we are learning how the brain works better.

    This is both similar to what I have and not similar at the same time.
    I constantly feel a feeling of tension in almost all joints of the right side of my body. This feeling is at the same time strong enough to interfere, but not strong enough to be called pain. It looks like nerve irritation. It is felt most strongly in the little finger, knee and shoulder blade. During physical activity that causes physical fatigue, this feeling intensifies.This also increases with nervous tension. The joints just start to "burn" with this feeling, especially the little finger, but it's still not pain. I'm confused, there is no information about anything like this anywhere.
    My joints are fine, I don’t have arthritis.

      I have it, and I've often said and thought this. My dad had lupus and died from it's complications (he was 58). I'm now 59 and it's like I'm living in a 80 years old body. By the way I've had it for over 12 years, took me ages to get a diagnosis. My advice to anyone who has it you will learn the triggers that cause it to flare, take things easy, allow a lot more time for things you used to be able to do in an hour, could now take you a day or two, if you're able to do the given task at all. I once read somewhere "you'll get it, if you get it". Meaning the only way to understand what it's like to have it. I'm sure one day there will be some Dr. who get's to the bottom of it, and I won't be surprised if it's a autoimmune condition.

      There is not a lot you can do. But hang in there ok, you will still have good days and times. I take strong time release prescription pain medication. It’s worth a try imo. Maybe it’s not for you, but it should be an option for you at least. Tylanol or Panadol probably won’t be sufficient for much of your pain experience. Antidepressants don’t work for the pain, neither do things for nerves like Lyrica. You may decide to use these for other things but don’t be sucked in to taking them for pain relief the long term effects aren’t worth it. Maybe join an online group for FM just so you don’t feel so alone and maybe someone will advise a good medication or doctor or book to read, lifestyle tips. I wish you better days. Take care.

      It doesn’t fix FM at all. It’s good for bone health though. Been taking both for years and I still have fm. What is your reasoning to write this is going to fix fm?
