- Start of a series I'm releasing about my first year as a Co Angler, some of the gear, tackle, and tips I learned along the way. There is more that I just cannot explain in a video. If you want to become a better angler, you just gotta get out there!

Good summary video.
I would be weary of running someone’s boat or truck. If something happens that could get ugly.
I will pay extra if they run the lake and it results in me catching more fish. I choose not to subsidize a poor game plan or if they back boat me. Technically it’s against the rules to block the coangler but it happens and coanglers don’t complain. I will also pay more of they are receptive to my opinion for bodies of water I’m very familiar with.
Thank you!
I fished the BFL's as a co-angler in the LBL (KY Lake) division in 2018. I've had people ask me about the costs. Entry fees, boater fuel money, my own fuel, hotel, license, etc... cost me just over $3,000 this year...and that doesn't count fishing gear. I ended the season at the Wildcard in 7th place (missed the All-American by a few ounces). I tell guys to just be prepared to spend more than you want to. You'll learn A TON! But be ready to spend money.
Agreed...it aint cheap! I just love going, learning, and competing.
I fished two in that division and won the super. Luckily I have a free place to stay and drive a car that gets 36 mpg but agree tournament fishing is expensive
This video is the reason I was reccomended to check out your channel. This will be my 1st year in the bfl
Man I have been put on the waiting list for every tournament I paid for this year in the local division...I cant catch a break!
Dang dude
I might be either doing 2020 BMopens Or Next year for Co Angler, and I honestly cant wait...Im super excited Ive done Private Tournaments, And club, but nothing Compares to this..If i could pull a Top 10 I will be extremely excited.
Awesome advice great information
Thanks for watching!
Trying to learn some of this. If you have a boat, why be a coangler. Is it just a learning tool.
Just participated in my 1st costa. I took 20th on Amistad:)
Jayce Garrison nice job! Congrats!
This video was great! Id like to see a Boater video "What it's like to be a first-time Boater in FLW"!
Thanks for the tips. Could you do a video about how to prepare for the lake as a co-angler? I know you should let the boater decide on where on the lake to go. How as a co-angler can you maximize your opportunities when you're at the boater's discretion?
262 Fishing I try to jump on someone’s boat on Friday just to fish and try a few things. The boater will dictate the type of fishing you’ll be doing but you make sure you’re throwing different stuff. One time I had a walking bait tied on and the boater did as well. I realized I was going to have much luck behind him so I went with a whopper plopper and ended up with the biggest bag of the entire tournament of both boater and cos. Point is you don’t have to ned rig or drop shot all day but remember usually you don’t need a huge bag to get paid.
Also watch a lot of RUclips and read reports of the lake you’re fishing and around the same time frame of the tournament. Check past results to get an idea of what it might take to get a check.
I still say they should net there own fish you net yours ! Really glad I found your channel !
I like that idea
I got an idea don't use a net. Can't use one as a co in the bassmaster opens so why not here as well. I would rather lose a fish either trying to boat flip it or going to get it then the possibility of someone knocking it off with a net. Jmo
This video made me laugh so hard. The boater you keep highlighting about the negatives is in my club and you are 100% correct about him lmao.
Oh dam for reals. Gonna rewatch this
@@BeyondTheBoundsOutdoors Yeah it was definitely a Potomac tournament and it looked like the one in April of 2018.
Great job Lou. I tournament fish here in south Florida as a boater. You are right on all that you said. I enjoy the videos!
Is there information listed in your tournament packet explaining which license you need for each tournament you enter?
When you sign up there is
Are the bfls still doing coanglers? I know the tour is doing marshalls this year but I haven't heard anything about the rest of them
Yup Bfls and costas!
Wishing you all the best for the upcoming fishing year!!
Get ready for them to not put you in good casting position. Don't even think of throwing anywhere close to "thier" water, and be prepared for them to stick thier greedy paws out and say "you got my gas money??!!!!!!"
Really good video. Fished the FLW tournaments on its debut in my Country Zimbabwe this year & it's got me excited for next year. Any advice for an international that would be looking to come fish some events that side in America? Would appreciate it.
Biggest thing is research and believe in yourself. There is enough info available you can know before you even wet a line
Great vid, how many rods on average do non-boaters and boaters have on the deck?
4-6
Wanting to start being a co angler. Do have to sign up and see if you get picked or can you just pay your money and see what happens or how does that all work thanks.
Sign up and you will get notified if you are "confirmed" which means linked to a boater.
Beyond The Bounds cool thanks
Beyond The Bounds Do have to send your money in as well
@@motojockey8559 with FLW you pay online or over the phone, you can even pay in installments.
Don't forget to help clean and wipe down the boat afterward
Love all your videos. Still hope we can get together and fish Buggs or another lake in NC. The weather here has really sucked and the water has been very muddy this year so hopefully next year will be better. Good luck and looking forward to your next video
For sure! Looking forward to it
thanks great video!
You got it!
This is good stuff! I’m looking to get started doing BFL’s as a co-angler as well, can you explain how the schedules are setup? Can you enter any tournament, or do you have to start at the beginning of the year? Is their a point system? How often are the tournaments? Thanks
Will definitely be getting to this soon! hit that subscribe!
Great advice... thanks man....
Great knowledge shared. Thanks!!
Appreciate it!
Thanks for sharing that Lou! Sounds stressful indeed! I hope the enjoyment outweighs it!
What's the worst boater you've ever had? Make a video about it?
I kinda of did
Nice video bub 👊👊👊
Alright! I appreciate it
Another great informative video from Lou. Keep up the great work brother.
Can you do a 2019 boat tour?
Sure will
Great insight man! Thanks for the info.
Great video..thank u for sharing
Is there an age limit on this? I’m 60 and looking for something to do.
No sir!!
There are all ages. I have a boat and fish team tournaments but enjoy the BFL as a co because the closest division I fish is 6 hours away and don’t have a ton of time to practice. It’s a gamble to draw a good boat but I always try to out fish my boater. That’s how I judge a good performance. Some boaters aren’t that good and some are so good you won’t get a ton of water to fish.
When you register as a co angler do you need a boaters flw membership number
You do not. You can link with a boater and that will ensure you both have spots in the tourney, but i sign up without boaters all the time
@@BeyondTheBoundsOutdoors How do you find a boater to link to?
If you have never fished as coangler but have a boat can you register as a boater out of the gate?
you sure can bud have at it!
Did you win the boat your on????? 🤔🤔
Hahah love the little kid voice haha sure thing yes sir 😂😂😂
I thought they canceled the co anglers? Or was that only for the pro side?
That was just in the flw tour level, but costas and BFLs still have co angler spots
How many rods do you take to be comfortable
4-6
Great tips.
Thanks for the comment!
Where is the 3rd video in this series bud it tells me private video.
BamaBassFinder04 4 hmmm not sure man...I just released one today...and will do one on Sunday too
