As owners of a trained dogs I would like to add that after your dog has this training you STILL have to stay on top of it. We have become lazy through the years and our GSD's are smart. You let them get by with one lapse and it is like starting over. We used a lifted climb and would tell them to climb and they would get on it. But through the years they broke or we moved so much there was no room. We are getting ready to move into a bigger place and my first purchase is their own dog beds. Thank you for the reminder how important this is. DON"T GET LAZY PEOPLE!!! because it will be your fault not the dogs.

So freaking well said! Like kids….as they mature, have to have their boundaries “reset”. I have an Australian Shepherd….we use the local Rail Trails, as it gives me/us plenty of practice on proper behavior and response to my commands with walkers, joggers, bicycles, tricycles, e-bikes, and importantly, other dog walkers. Great comment, Alicia….absolutely great comment. Something that I think many dog owners don’t realize is, that the “learning and practice” never ends. And “refresher training” with the proper reward system, I think, is fun for the dog, too. (I swear, when mine gets a “good girl, good girl” with a small treat and a rigorous rub on her neck behind her ears, she smiles!). And your comment made me smile! Take care, Alicia.

Great content! I am surrounded by dog owners who feel their dogs should be able to behave how they want & that it’s “too harsh” to train their dogs to do what they’re told. Really it’s that the owners are too damn lazy to put in the time.

Mike, you, your videos, simply outstanding…..I’m a recent subscriber. I’m in my mid-60s, retired Navy and retired federal wildlife officer. After numerous moves, I eventually became Chief of Law Enforcement for the northeastern U.S. Once I obtained that position, I struggled to sell my region on the “value” of K9 Officers, having known and worked with other region’s K9 LEOs. I learned a lot working with and closely watching these amazing teams. And what I learned, really helped me “bond with and control” our Australian Shepherd post-retirement. And I have yet to watch one of your videos that I didn’t / don’t learn something new. Plus, I really like your direct approach in instructing the viewer…some would call it not exactly “PC”….whatever the hell that means these days…but now retired, in a primarily “left-leaning” part of the country, I miss it. Helpful? Absolutely! Outstanding? Yep! My dog and I spend a lot of time on her “manners” and response to me, and when we run (for me these days, more like a light trot!) the local Rail Trail. She gets compliments often…and from what I observe of other dog owners, I wish they’d watch your videos! Aside from the value of your content….you have a great sense of humor! I laugh often! Bravo-Zulu, brother….I wish you well!

You make me miss Jersey. Realized talk, real world. I catch crap at our Schutzhund club for training him for protection and having him as a family dog. I love your real world expectations to prepare for everything he may be exposed to. We have a 6 month old mal. I train him in the rain, house, playgrounds (our kids are grown,) buildings, parking lots. We try to expose him to noises and distractions so he knows he needs to follow commands regardless of whats going on around him.

(casting couch🤣) that made me laugh. Great video. I liked that you mentioned the timing with the clicker too. And about the constant control. It's easy to get 'lax' on that and think that the dog was trained and he'll always know to do it, but if you stop enforcing it then it'll eventually get sloppy and could even disappear. You have to stay on it. I'm so glad I did with mine. But yesterday and today for the first time he didn't 'off' at the window. If you're saying "off" for the 4th time and having to scream it like a crazy girl and the neighbors can hear you then you're slacking or someone's breaking in. It wasn't someone breaking in. Oh wait🤔 first time in 4 months he didn't 'off' and almost went through the window. He did that a lot before a year and a half ago and his head went through. They're ancient windows, but still.🤔 wasnt too smart of me to not look. duh. People don't realize how smart these dogs are. He can feel things from 2 blocks away, or know things. (I dont know how or the science behind it and I never believed it until I found out a few times). Then I took out a picture and showed him. Ha🤣 ohhhhh nooo waai🤔 maybe thaaat's .. never mind. I'm writing a book. Lol
