    The lecture was fascinating, Angela!
    The emphasis on the tv show Lucifer, among other pop culture manifestations, I thought was so poignant. You nailed it there.
    The show, I think, really captured well most of what you're talking about here.
    I'd like add one more particularly endearing quality of Lucifer Morningstar, the character...he never lies, which is actually quite faithful to the source material, despite the Christian tradition of the character assassination by calling him the prince of lies. What an irony! 😉

    I have a total crush on you... In any case, this reminds me of an experience I had with the occult... I combined Sacred Geometric Sigils, Solfeggio Frequencies and Meditation with Fasting to induce a spiritual experience... It was years ago, but I felt as though I channeled Lucifer and spoke to Metatron as Lucifer... I felt so misunderstood in the moment, like the misunderstood and outcast hero... During the experience I saw a UFO light orb and even received warnings about division within society and oncoming troubled times. I was asked by the Voice I heard what I wanted and I said, "Knowledge" and I saw a flash like a spiritual download that I couldn't even understand all of at the time... And then I became an avid researcher of the occult and esotericism in an attempt to further understand such experiences... During that experience I wondered how I would ever be able to convey Lucifer as a hero but felt as though it was a charge of sorts, that I needed to bring understanding to the subject and all of that lead me into reseraching with a specific focus on the entire history of that figure... I relate him to Prometheus and even older deities such as Ea Enki of Sumerian... It's a major inspiration and I appreciate your presentations a lot...

    Imo, the Christian concept that a All-Know Supreme Being created some entities called Angels, and then some of them rebelled and turned against Him/Her, not only makes no sense but is emotionally and psychologically alien. Del Toro’s masterpiece ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ portrays the true role of the Devil/Satan/Lucifer/Pan as the ultimate Tester.

      This makes me think of how West African crossroads spirits like Eshu, Eleggua and Legba were seen as Satanic by Christian missionaries. Practioners, however, syncretized them with St. Anthony of Padua and the Christ Child of Atocha. The idea of chaos, crossroads and mischief were assumed to be evil, but in their own cultural context they meant choices that tested one's character and opened up possibilities for transformation and redemption.

      @nickgangadis8679 2 года назад

      @@nox-apsirk Well, we have a common point, and that’s our relationship with our father. And due to that experience I can say it’s not the same. God is a Father (or maybe Mother) but we’re just human beings and although we raise our teenagers the ‘proper’ way according to our standards we see them rebelling, disagreeing and finally going away. It’s part of the individuation process where the son or daughter becomes an independent man or woman, and that’s to be expected, acknowledged and understood, even though it’s confusing, disappointing and sometimes frustrating when we first witness it. With the Angels it’s different. They were created (we may even say programmed) by a Omniscient, Omnipotent Entity for a specific purpose, to act as messengers and completing tasks set by their Creator. To me they were (maybe are) some no free will automata. That’s why I say it makes no sense. Imagine being a Perfect Programmer writing the perfect program which works fine at first, but after some time it stops working and then states it doesn’t recognise you. Now, add up the fact that you’re omniscient and you knew this would happen before you created it…LOL, can you see my point now? So, unless there is some other process in play, like free will or some kind of evolution, that specific Angel rebellion is a non sequitur to me. However, if there’s a point I missed I’d love to know about it. I always encourage positive, constructive criticism. 🙂

    In fin de siècle Western Europe this image was strongly connected with occult practice i.e. Crowley et al.. as you know, and almost exclusively externalized. but in the first two decades of the 20th century, Jung explicated this as an internal condition of the psyche, and particularly in his writing about the union of the opposites, the mysterium coniunctionis, his last major compilation of writing. And non-binary is a good way to “spread the good news” so to speak, that we contain both the light and the dark within each of us. You have a very effective way of elucidating very complex material. Myth making indeed! I’m reminded of the Rollo May book The Cry for Myth. The Puca Paradigm 🤓

Anything anti-hierarchical was deemed satanic in my "chrisitan" community. What an abusive method for controlling reasonable dissent and scrutiny! My favourite take on the Satan is as the Power of Self-Doubt especially prevalent in the prelude to the Book of Job. I think i am not the only who feels like self-doubt appears to us as autonomous and in the right conditions and timing, as medicine [and like all medicine, in the wrong conditions and timing as Toxin]. When given permission to be that medicine, Self-Doubt can save us from grievous error. Much love!

    What is a "devil" or a "satan"? An evil ideology or a being in charge of all of hell?
    I read, from a particular writer, that a "devil" and a "satan" are classified as being different types of evil spirits: A devil being described as a hostile spirit, and a satan as being a deceptive spirit. He would describe his spiritual encounters with both types: the ones who were devils would appose him face-to-face, and the satans would always try to sneak around and attack from behind.
    The same writer made the assertion that there is no one overall devil or satan since the hellish realms do not work together to support one overall entity, and since all of the powers of heaven do come together in God that he really has no evil being who could be an equal rival. And I suspect that any being who could contain all of hell would be seen as the devil but is actually not, and the term "Lucifer" is more of a King James invention.

    • @nox-apsirk
      @nox-apsirk 2 года назад +7

      Satan literally translates a adversary, from Hebrew. It also translated as Opposition and Both Accuser and Accused. Truth is Satan, in the Old Testament, was only mentioned a few times, either as "Ho Satan" (The Satan) or "Ha Satan" (A Satan). Keeping this in mind, when applied to the context of the books of the OT, it was in regards to whoever was the adversarial roll in that particular story. Satan wasn't One Particular Entity in those stories. There could be a number of different "satans".
      Even in the New Testament Jesus called Peter, his own Apostle, Satan (Matthew 16:23). He said "get behind me Satan" because Peter began to rebuke him, i.e. he was becoming an Adversary to Jesus.
      It wasn't until the early Christian church fathers that they decided to create an Arch Nemesis to "God", because Judaism is monotheistic, meaning God was both equally Love and Feared. But with the advent of Christianity, they had to reboot the image of God as being "All Good" so they personified, and literally Demonized, "SATAN" as "The Devil", which morphed a bunch of Pagan gods together. This 2-fold was a Fear-based approach to gaining converts while tricking pagans into think that their gods were actually demons and devils.
      Satan is much like the Azazel Goat of Yum Kippur; Society's Scapegoat.

But you spoke clearly, looked very nice, kept excellent eye contact and engaged with the entire audience, so perfect 👍
    For the content, I think spot on. You could go deeper into the shift in human understanding and acceptance of their nature. That the humanizing of the devil gives people the ok to have a “dark side” because it’s in their nature. I see it as a YinYang type thing. Two halves to make a whole. And to grow spiritually you have to take accountability for all aspects of self. You know; blaming the bad guy & begging the good guy VS crap I screwed that up and now I am going to fix it. I think this is a part of the shift. The enlightenment of self to allow pure devotion to beliefs. I could be very wrong. 💚😊🍀

    I can't personally get behind any of these ideas because of what happened to me. I was far from liberated or enlightened, any more than a child is in the hands of any licentious stranger. I know him better than I ever wanted to. I have memories and flashbacks that caused me nightmares for decades. But these are not in history books or arcane grimoires. Thanks for the talk!

      @Deerheart Yes, I concur with you- it was memories from early childhood... of awful things I could not explain. There were some memories, equally horrible ones of earthly abuse... but some of the abuse I recalled was not of this realm. And I feared for years that I was loosing my sanity. But I was not, and have survived. Thank you.

    As an academic, disappointed you didn't throw out term Lucifer from start. The passage has 0 to do with Christian Devil. Here's Percy Shelley "The Devil and his Angels are called the Powers of the Air, and the Devil himself Lucifer. I cannot discover why he is called Lucifer, except from a misinterpreted passage in Isaiah, where that poet exults over the fall of an Assyrian king, the oppressor of his country:-"How art thou fallen, Lucifer, king of Morning!" Lucifer= Light bearer i.e. Venus AKA Morning Star here in a purely metaphorical description. A rather late mistranslation that then gets late embellishments. Luciferian Witchcraft needs a rebranding! 😃 👹

      I think that misses the point of this talk. This was meant to be descriptive of pop culture portrayals of the Devil, not prescriptive. It's like having a talk on Santa Claus that acknowledges that he is also called Father Christmas and St. Nick. The Saint Nick comes from how St. Nicholas of Myra influenced the character and Father Christmas has ties to Yule and ultimately to Wodan. Saying, "we should just throw out the Father Christmas part because it's not connected to St. Nicholas of Myra" is irrelevant, because the public domain creature created from these disparate myths has both names, and many others.

      @@LaneMaxfield Yes this was about popular culture usage and Angela stated it would bunch them together but it's such a fundamental issue to equate them as if they didn't have different histories is misleading. Jewish Satan ≠ Genesis snake ≠ Christian Devil ≠ Isaiah metaphor. These alone are 4 distinct concepts just as the folkloric Saint Nicholas is different to 19thC Father Christmas, again different to 21stC Father Christmas.
