Owen Drabek . I will stay that people do interpret things differently, but the error is people, not God. Truth is a person, and that person is Christ Jesus. We must base our understanding on what He said of Himself, otherwise confusion is the result!

    • @MikeWinger
      @MikeWinger  9 лет назад +26

Mike Cassell I think that sounds nice but doesn't make a lot of sense when you think about it more deeply. Different religions have different foundational beliefs and so it would be impossible to piece together a cohesive view of the world from different beliefs which are all based on conflicting foundational beliefs. It's only possible for someone to hold to this "puzzle piece" view if they are unaware of what different religions actually teach or if they simply don't care about logical contradictions.

I used to be an atheist. I’ve been slowly learning of faith. It’s been a struggle to try and know God, but I think the biggest struggle was trying to find “the right way” of knowing God. After learning so much about many religions (not all) I’ve found so many similarities. Whether it be the similarities amongst Eve eating the apple and releasing sin upon the world (Christianity), or Pandora opening Pandora’s box and releasing sin upon the world (Greek mythology), God making Adam from the diet (Christianity), or Prometheus making the first human man out of clay (Greek), or the flood occurring and only one man and woman being warned/saved (Christianity, Greek mythology, Norse “), and many other small and obscure similarities. I’m trying my best to build a relationship with God, and even though it’s probably odd of me to come to know God through studying multiple different religions/ideologies, I think it’s the best path for me. I am such an over thinker, and even though I know now that I believe in God now for my own reasons even though I used to be such a stubborn atheist, I feel that learning of God from so many different backgrounds helps me fathom the miracle that God and his creation of humanity is. Ultimately, I believe, that just like every word has a different translation in every language, so does God. God is omniscient and it is only normal for all of his followers globally to know him by His own special name.

@@Meg-zf7qx I have come to the conclusion that all religions are a different pov of the same god. Everything is of the same story but in different variations. I truly believe god is everything and everyone is god or at least apart him having its own experience in the physical realm . The soul is the subconscious. I think we just return to the original energy source we came from when we die.

Of course when you get into the finer details most religions are very different from one another. However, I’m looking from the perspective that they were all created at different points of time, mostly by very different people, In different parts of the world. That they were all different perspectives of the same thing.
They mostly have the same principles. Like being kind to other people, faith, belief in external forces etc.
But because of the differences in the people who “created” them. Their perspectives were different and interpreted a lot of the smaller details in different way

I think the most realistic answer is that all religions are neither same nor all religions different from each other. Let me explain with the chair example itself. There are 4 people who approach the wooden brow chair. Two of them argue whether the chair is made of wood or plastic and two of them argue whether the chair has 3 or 4 legs. Now, among those who argue about whether chair is made of wood or plastic, only one can be right. Similarly, among those who argue about whether the chair has 3 or 4 legs, only one can be right. But two people here, the one who says chair is made of wood and one who says chair has four legs, are both right. This is the most realistic argument of the religions present in the world today.
In a broad sense, only one of the Abrahamic religions can be true since they are all fighting about one thing i.e. who is the true/final messenger of God. Similarly, only one of the Dharmic religions (or rather philosophies) can be true because they are all fighting about the same thing which is what is the true nature of existence, specifically, is it oneness (Advaita Hinduism) or is it qualified oneness (non-Advaita Hinduism) or is it nothingness (Buddhism) or is existence just a product of collective actions of all sentient beings (Jainism)?
However, saying that of all religions, including Dharmic and Abrahamic, only one is true is just absurd as Abrahamic religions talk of the messengers/prophets whereas Dharmic religions talk of the true nature of reality/existence. The two are completely independent. Although what I am doing here is a very broad categorization into just two groups (in reality, there are many groups), I hope people understand my point.

I don't think his video was slanderous in any way, he was just stating what HE believes. You don't have to agree with him.
Jesus gave free will to all men to decide what they will or will not believe, however the Christian is commanded to preach the gospel unto all nations and it is not up to us to convert or change....but to speak the truth and give people the oppurtunity to accept or to walk away.

melissa watros Which gospel? The gospel of Mark? The gospel of Matthew? The gospel of Luke? The gospel of John? The gospel of Thomas? The other gnostic gospels? All of them? You probably don't even know most of them. Paul claimed in the Bible that the gospel has already been preached around the world. Jesus still didn't return despite his promise to return before the gospel has been preached in Israel. That's probably because Jesus' divinity is a legend.

I feel like it can be true that all religious are correct. When you look at the reasoning, for example the chair, of why they believe it’s wood, plastic or not there at all you may find that it’s similar but just through a different lens. For example if the chair was god. Some may say he is Omnipresent, one being and should be the only one worshiped while another would say he’s multiple things, separate beings, one may say there isn’t a god at all.
When you start asking where these thoughts or ideologies come from you realize.. god is omnipresent, he is separate beings, and in order to fully understand him you will have to struggle with if god is there at all- you might feel as if we are all connected, chokes continue and there is no force driving it to be called god- but
The people speaking these things are all human - on a 3D world trying to interpret a 4d, 5d, 6d, 8d dimension energy- that can not be fully describe.
What all of the teaching do say together is to feel love and peace within yourself- because that is where god resides.
Obviously I don’t know how to explain what god is but I do know that because it’s a being so complex, it is all those things. It’s our fault for only knowing our immediate reality, forcing things to fit within it.

The right answer is: "ALL RELIGIONS ARE WRONG!".
    That's what the Bible teaches.
All YESHUA's followers ran out of their religions, their beliefs, their traditions, their values, their fears, their preferences...
...and started to seek a personal transformation to be made of The Almighty Creator's image and likeness.
No one left his/her religion for a new one or a different one. NOPE!
    No temples.
    No altar.
    No offerings or sacrifices.
    No priests.
    No pyramidal hyerarchies.
    No positions.
    No power struggles
    No disputes for greater collections
    No obligations.
    No formalisms.
    No dogmas.
No sacred objects, days, fests, etc.
No more faith supported by spiritual or psychological crutches or handrails.
No "look-down" feelings between those who are part of the group or not.
No motives to feel ashamed because no one has more than the strong desire to make every neighbor happier in their hearts.
    Families helping each other!!!
Humans sincerely and deeply care about the well-being of other human beings. Totally devoid of any form of interests or rewards.
NO RELIGION can transform every single member into this.
So, the more religious they were before hearing about salvation in The Creator in the flesh, the more difficult was to deal with sinful values and behaviors...
That's what Mike's Bible teaches, but he still can't see...
...because the "religion lens" are scales in his eyes...

More flawed reasoning Mike Winger? You are close but your assumptions are getting in the way of your logic.
    Here are the real options.
    1.All religions are wrong.
    2.All religion are right.
3.One religion (Your flav of Christianity) is right*
4 One other religion is right.
    5. Many other religions that are compatible are right*
Many other religions are compatible with each other. You ignore this, because you assume the truths of Christianity.
1*. Its possible that all religions are true, is some aspect. I think the faith part is right.
2*. Just Because Christianity is totalitarian, does not mean other religions are, ie polytheism etc.

      "Jesus claimed" No he didn't.
I separated this from the other comment for clarity.
Jesus is based on a book that doesn't meet historical criteria.
To assert he said this or that betrays ignorance on the subject with a tendency to assume its true.
We "know" three things about Jesus "historically" or reliably.
      1. He existed.The man.
      2. He was baptised by John.
      3.He was crucified by Pilate.(Romans)
The rest has been altered, distorted and even fabricated over time.
You have 2000 year old hearsay that has been tampered with many times.

I would think of it more like one man is arguing that the chair is wooden and the other man is arguing that its blue. They can both be right but are clouded by their own words in a way that they arent able to see the full truth.
Theres overlapping elemnts in almost all religions. It may evidence of some hard wiring into our brain to believe in some god we dont understand. Or it could just be how stories are told over long periods of time. Either way i take it as evidence that we cant know who god is and just go with whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

And your example of the three chairs is not at all relavant to saying that all religions are basically the same. It's not that black and white (or green and blue, or whatever colors the chairs were). In Hinduism they actually believe in Brahman, which is the God of all Gods, which resides in all of us (like the Holy Spirit) and he can incarnate into man, like Jesus. And our souls are on a mission and when that mission is complete we actually achieve moksha, which is to realize ones union with God and be liberated from the death-rebirth cycle and achieve a state of bliss, much like heaven. These are the similarities. So instead, it's more like all three men are looking at one brown chair. One man was taught that brown is called "red" and another man was taught that brown is called "blue". So they argue and argue thinking each other is wrong when really they are seeing the same thing but calling it different names

True. I am a Hindu and I think the same .
Actually Christianity and hinduism are very alike .
All religions basically have same essence.
I think somewhere in the past all religions were interpreted to control the masses by some greedy people to keep the power.
Islam is the same still now.
Some Christians are like that. And I think church did it.
Hinduism was also interpreted by some greedy people that's how caste system came to be but it was reformed again and again .
If someone really understands religion and really has ever had any true religious revealings I don't think that person will ever fight with another just because they don't speak the same tongue.

All religion may have some truth to it, or some resemblance of truth. But when they contradict, and they all do, they cannot all be right. What you describe are superficial similarities, but are in fact very different. In Christianity there is only one eternal God of tree equal parts, and all other beings are created. God incarnated himself only once as Jesus of Nazareth, and said that "I am they way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me". When we come home to our father in heaven we do not loose ourselves, but we become truly ourselves. We do not become one with the cosmos and loose our person.

i believe that, as any great teacher has, Jesus did not speak in literal terms every time he spoke. i believe that he often worded complex ideas as analogies and allegories. Every religious or spiritual text is supposed to be able to be understood by children, and making comparison to something familiar is one of the easiest ways to learn. I am in the process of writing an essay proposing that every major religion is fundamentally identical. i hope to send it to you when complete to look for any loopholes in my logic.

Jenn, I'm glad you are looking into the beliefs of various religions and I would enjoy looking at your conclusions. As someone who has spent a great many hours studying various religions I only caution you not to force your conclusion on your research. If you end up making all religions fundamentally the same by offering new interpretations of those religion's core values and worldviews a then you will have done a disservice to them.

Shah Esfelazi Him looking at it isn't going to do any good. He has his beliefs set so there is going to be an automatic confirmation bias. We all have one based on our world view and what we believe. It's very difficult to change what you already have set in your mind as fact.
For instance I believe in Astrology. Not the fortune telling horoscope Astrology but astrology that goes along with various occult orders.
I have my view on how the universe works and how we affect it and vice versa. It would be very hard to change those beliefs as I've seen, done, and have done some pretty impressive things based on those beliefs.
Likewise Christian's have the same effects. What you belief and have faith in can have some pretty profound effects on your life.
Now, I'm not here to argue about who's right and who's wrong as I believe we both are right to some extent. We just have a different way of seeing how the universe works.
It is all in the Bible though for all who have eyes to see it and ears of understanding.
      Milk for babes.

Well the origin story seem to come from the same source, when history is studied, then you look at where the origin storys are told and where it has not been told, when you move through time and then find codes of law which we still have today, you find mainstream religion comes from the same region, then you look at history, not taking the historical account from one side, you see many conflicts fought for control of religion for there people,. This is actually a very deep subject, and only now since the human race has advanced, you can find with knowledge of the mechanism behind what makes things exsit, and as our understand becomes clearer we can look out further and see this mechanism not only governs us but everything. For those that don't believe, there was a time when television was impossible but it happened, since we have no evidence of life after death but it exists, just like you didnt know what was behind the door, but you had a idea because you've been their before.

Invitation to share thoughts accepted. It's not how all religions are the same or right. It's about how many things most religions have in common. It's also about how many fragments of 'truth' you can see within each religion. You should not go around telling people of different beliefs how you have the ONLY truth or the COMPLETE truth or ABSOLUTE truth. You should point out what truths you share and celebrate what you have in common. Which means the more truths another religion shares with yours, the closer they are to the connection with god.
Example: Those of the Abrahamic faith can celebrate the fact that there is only one God. We may never agree to the nature and personality of God, but we all came from the same line of authority that is Abraham.
Those of the Eastern faith can celebrate the idea of doing good deeds raises karma and gets one closer to breaking the cycle of reincarnation.
Sikhs believe in what I have just written here. For them it does not matter what religion you practice. It only matters that your religion gives you a relationship with God which in turn lets you feel God's love.

In many things people search logic to believe something. But, when it comes to religious faith, they do not search for logical truth. They just believe the beliefs which came in hereditary. If people examine Bible definitely they will come to conclusion that every word in it is logical truth. Every other religion is Incoherent and illogical and leads to destruction.
If someone believe that Jesus Christ is just a good person without any evil, or just a prophet came from God , then for that person there is only one option is left. That is to believe what Jesus had claimed about himself. And his claims proves He is God came in flesh. Some of his claims are,
To have preexisted His own birth (John 8:58).
To have known Abraham (John 8:56-58).
Moses wrote of Him in Scripture (John 5:39, 45-46).
To be greater than Jonah and Solomon (Matthew 12:41-42).
To know God personally (Matthew 11:27).
God was His Father (John 5:17-18).
He came from heaven (John 8:42).
He is the only access to God (John 14:6).
He is the world’s Messiah (John 4:25-26).
To be the only way of salvation from sin (John 5:24; 3:13-15; 6:40; 8:24).
Everyone must bow to Him and call Him Lord (John 13:13; cf. Romans 14:11).
His blood brings remission (Matthew 26:28).
    To be sinless (John 18:23.
To give life to those He chooses (John 5:21).
Believers can pray and receive anything (Matthew 21:22).
The dead will hear His voice (John 5:28-29).
He will judge the world (John 5:22).
His followers will never perish (John 8:51)
(John 17:5) "And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began."
Luke 22:69 "But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God."
Matthew 25:31-32 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep and the goats."

4:39 or either the scriptures have been changed and people that claimed to be prophets like paul weren't actually prophets and they were just there to destroy what Jesus (peace be upon him) preached (Believing in one creator, pray god, faith cant save you alone, be good to others, etc) We do not know what the original scriptures looked like in Christianism. The oldest bible manuscript that we found was in the 9th century and we don't know what was the real message that Jesus preached because it may have been changed. In many books, we don't even know who are the authors and many books were written by people that have never seen Jesus (peace be upon him). Think about it.

Pi's companion on that life raft isn't a tiger, and God, or the gods, aren't real, either. (on the other hand, I found it interesting to think about Almighty Allah from a Hindu perspective: the crazy god who thinks that he's the Only God, and of course that'd be fit the Christian Trinity, too.)

The moment I do that though means my religion is better than yours, and thus not the same.

Ther's only one answer to this. It's a total logical misconception to say either all are wrong or one is right. ALL RELIGIONS ARE RIGHT!
Religions have existed with the human beeing since we learned to walk on our two legs. Because mankind's brain developed to the extent that we became self aware and questioned our purpose in life, religion was a necessity for "finding a peace of mind" and to give rise to civilization. It's been in our genetics for thousands of years. That a lot people fail to accept this and still claim their religion is the only one, is merely a sympton of the diagnosis called "cognitive dissonance".

Please dont take it as an insult. Consider this. For example your chair analogy. All three people CAN be truthfull. Subjectivity is part of the truth. Without it objectivity can not exist. A bee will experience seeing a chair in a totally different way that you will. It doesn't make the one more true than the other. They are both true. Just a different perception. Can it not be the case that perception itself is truth? No matter how you percieve it?

I'm 8years late to the party, but don't agree with the fact that only one religion can be correct. When you break down religion to its core, it's about worship to a higher power. All religions throughout time have this common thread. Thus, every religion which has ever existed belives in a one true God. If you now ask yourself, "but what about religions where there are multiple divine gods?", my answer would still be that there is always one true god. Religions which depict multiple Gods still have one God who is superior to the rest, the King of the Gods as I would call them.
So now that we've established that there is one true/supireor God, what about the rest? Well in Christianity there are various angles. These angles take up the same role that minor or secondary Gods do. There are saints and profits, just like there are demigods. All religions have a similar structure when you look across them as an independent outsider. Just because they interpret their being differently does not make them wrong. Your example of the 3 men seeing a chair differently over simplifies the differences which religions have. It's less a case of claiming that the chair has different attributes, and more a case of interpreting the same object differently. We can all be sitting in the same room looking at the same object but describe it differently, this doesn't make any of us wrong. But when ignorance takes hold and we proclaim that our view is correct because this is how we see it, you fail to understand that if you move to the left or to the right you may see it the same way that the person next to you does. In that way, I think that the different religious groups are all describing the same thing, just from a different POV.
My view is that the most important thing is for us as humans, sons and daughters of God, need to be more patient and understanding of one another, because at the end of the day we're all describing the same thing. I refuse to believe that there is only one true religion, why would God do that, why would he play such a sick game where if you choose the wrong view of his being you'll be punished in this life and the next. God is not cruel, God is love, he is life, he is being. We're all his children, he doesn't want us to bicker over what way is best to perceive and worship him. He just wants us to believe in him, and lead lives which embody the best parts of ourselves.
And with that, I will leave you. I pray that God continues to watch over and protect you and your loved ones. Amen. Peace be upon thee.

    • @MikeWinger
      @MikeWinger  10 лет назад +4

I'm having some difficulty answering your question because I think you may not be recognizing the difference between essential and non-essential doctrine. For example, if someone says they don't believe in the gifts of the Spirit (while I do) they disagree in a non-essential doctrine but we are still brothers in Christ (and of the same religion). However, if they disagree with essential doctrine then they are no longer a Christian religion (by definition). So, a "sect" that is genuinely Christian will be brothers and sisters in the same Christian religion as another sect. A group that says "we are Christian", but believes that Jesus is merely an angel and not God the Son, is NOT actually a Christian sect. This differentiation of "essential doctrine" vs "non-essential" doctrine is not my own invention, it is widely understood and can be tested against a careful reading of the Bible.
Your second question "why is yours the right one?" is hard to answer in this context. But, I will take it to mean "of all religions, why is Christianity true?" (I removed "yours" because it makes my personal belief in Jesus sound arbitrary and as though I decided to believe it and then, based on my belief, decided that it was true, which would be backwards).
Simply put, Christianity is supported by a large amount of evidence.

Mike Winger If you were born in Iran you would be saying these things about Islam; if you were born in Cambodia you would be saying the same about Buddhism. If you were born in Israel, Judaism. If you were born in ancient Greece, polytheistic religious practice which might have included the worship of Zeus. You might even be talking about the differentiation of essential doctrine vs non-essential doctrine, as it pertains to those who worship Poseidon over Aphrodite.
There is nothing special about the evidence for Christianity. The religion you believe is based mostly on the region of the world in which you were born and only a very small percentage of people deviate from that.

I have the made the most significant discovery of the *modern* era. But in reality, every time a major religion is born, it's because someone discovered the exact same thing I did. I didn't make this discovery on my own. The easiest way I can describe the way in which this discovery manifested itself to me was through empathy. Everyone's pain spoke to me, and I sought to find the source of that pain. I hold a powerful tool, and if I fail to communicate it, I'm afraid we are all doomed in the short-medium term.
In short, it's not that all the religions are wrong, it's that the original message got corrupted as language changes. When these religions started, they were all right. The message translated via written language changed, and the "correct" nature of them got corrupted.

Since romans have documents that prove Jesus was real I think he was just a smart man who had good morals.

A smart man that had good morals, yet claimed to be God.
I don’t know that many smart people claiming to be God, it’s usually the ones with mental illness or drug addictions.
Either Jesus was a crazed carpenter that believed he was God, or He was God.

Ha ha, I have listened to many of your podcasts although none for a while. I find you very learned for a relatively young man. While watching this particular video I thought, he looks different in this video (like a young beatnik) and much younger than I remember. I found out just now, after finishing watching your video, that this was posted 9 years ago. Ha ha, mystery solved. Anyhow, I agree with your comments about religion. I am a Christian and a believer and I am no moral relativist. Only one religion can be right, and the historical evidence is pretty much overwhelming, at least circumstantially, and logically so, inductively, that Christianity is the only true one.

All religions are true. Religion is a way of making sense of something we can't fully understand.

Nobody should be telling you what life is, because life is how we perceive it. To say that either all religions are wrong or one is right doesn't seem correct to me. Although these religions are quite different on the surface level, they all essentially have the same core. As humans we are limited to our senses. In the case of the chairs, who is to say that the chair they see is the 'true' chair? Which one of them is to say that the others are looking at it incorrectly? Obviously this variance isn't that apparent in the physical world, but in a spiritual world that we can barely grasp, the differences are enormous. I can only imagine how different life would be if I could look through another person's eyes. None of us know the absolute truth. We can only hope/speculate.

I think you could use the same principle on being baptized. The Bible leaves very few options when deciding whether or not being baptized is a required for salvation. .

What all religions have in common is:
They are all man-made and they all say that every other one is false
They are powerful, effective tools for controlling people and their wealth
Here are some questions for Christians:
Have you thought about what heaven would be like without your closest loved ones?
What if you got there and your parents were nowhere to be found? Then your children. Would you be sad knowing that they were tortured and burning for a bazillion bazillion years ? Sadness in heaven? Or would you be able to get over it? Or do you just not think about things like this?
Both of my parents were two different religions. Which one is going to suffer the ultimate fate and which one will not? I'm never going to get over the fact that one of them was suffering immeasurably while I "float on a cloud".

laxpaint i dont believe bible actually teaches eternal hell that is a mistranslated word for sheol tartarus and gehenna and none of those concepts is an eternal burning pit. Bible speaks of resurrection of the Just then of wicked then judgement and second death for wicked. Jesus died for your sins and paid the price of them if the price of your sins were bazillion to the power of infinite years Jesus would have to be still burning in "hell" but i think it will be like in the old testament were it wrote about jesus hundreds and thousands of years before and when he came only few were expecting him who really understood scripture.

    It's really simple guys, look.
God purposefully wanted to instill in each of us through the means of various books a false sense of (1) Happiness and (2) Gratefulness for our religion so that a MARGINAL BENEFIT can be generated in terms of zeal for our religion. (See 2 Thessalonians 2:11).
What's my source? Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.
The latter practiced Christianity -----> Saw Jesus.
Practiced Hinduism -----> Saw Hindu God Ram.
    GAME OVER. THAT SIMPLE.
    For example,
Psalm 86:8 says there are no works like God.
Luke 24:19 says Jesus was Powerful (δυνατὸς) in his deeds.
Acts 7:22 says Moses was Powerful (δυνατὸς) in his deeds.
Moshe (मोचयते i.e. is released) was born when many babies were being killed by a Tyrant King.
Lord krishna was born when many babies were being killed by a Tyrant King.
Moshe was transferred down a river through a basket after his birth from his birthplace.
Krishna was transferred down a river through a basket after his birth from his birthplace.
Moshe went back to his birthplace to kill the Pharoah.
Krishna went back to his birthplace to kill the King.
    Moshe's sister escaped persecution.
    Krishna's sister escaped persecution.
    Both were prophets too.
Idk man, your choice to believe or not.

Jesus was a messenger of the God. Like Muhammed, Moses, Abraham, Lote, Job, Jackob, Joseph or the others. And They all, belive the Same GOD, only one God, ALLAH.
