  • Take a look at some work that we did recently on a Burstner Elegance. Three NDS 3Lion lithium batteries should be just enough to keep the air-conditioning going all night long.

Great Job Andy demonstrating a Lithium setup in a Burnister. Not sure if 50a draw from freshlight is enough when converted to AC but in principle it's ok. What concerned me was, Is the cabling from the alternator able to safely carry the current in order to charge three hungry 100a Lithium batteries? Maybe this is why you stressed an install using qualified auto electricians.

Thank you! The cabling from the alternator is sufficient but the cabling from the starter battery to the lithium battery usually needs upgrading if the full potential of the lithium batteries is to be used. Some people don't get this and will tell you that you can just replace a lead-acid battery with the lithium. Hmmmmmm.!

We are trying to do a 230v system with heating although there has not been much progress since August. Bad news as it is pretty cold here now.

Lithium power is still out of the reach of most of us in the caravanning community due to price, but you can still use lead acid or AGM provided you make sure that you allow for the extra weight of the batteries. The next level down on cost is gas and if you use a refillable bottle then it's just as convenient and definitely cheaper, or you can use a generator if you only need to heat up a ready meal.

This looks a really good set up Andy. Not for the air con, but hadnt thought about having 230 volt available through the van sockets, which would be useful when needed - microwave for example. How easy is it to do, or do you know someone in the Kent area who could do it at a price?

Hello Bob. You're right and we're doing this to more and more motorhomes where people want to operate 230V appliances. It doesn't take long and it doesn't have to be very expensive. However, you need to be very clear what you want to run from the sockets. If it's just phone chargers, the smallest, cheapest inverter you can get will be suitable. If you want to run a coffee machine or a microwave, you'll need something much more substantial and much more expensive. Send an email to sales@roadpro.co.uk and tell us what you want to achieve, what vehicle you have, what batteries you're using and we can go from there. And, yes, we do know someone in Kent who can do the job: www.rapidrepair.eu
