      ???? Loblaws net profit was 2billion in 2023 on 60billion in revenue. Out of that net profit, Loblaws has to pay out 0.65billion in dividends. Typically pension funds and mutual funds pick up that type of stock. Loblaws forecasts a spend of over 2 billion to open new stores since the population base has been expanded by Trudeau. Obviously they will have to sell more shares. What 38billion are you talking about.

  • @edhorse13
    @edhorse13 Месяц назад +6

    The real reason is that profits are based on margin. If an item costs 1$ to get to the store and sell (Item cost/wages/capital expenses) and they mark it up 100% (profit) they make a dollar. If the same item inflates to say 2 dollars to bring in and sell and they keep the same margin they make 2 dollars of profit. Not saying its right or wrong, I've managed retail before and that's how it generally works. Loblaws does not want to reduce their margins so they make more money. This is how things like Carbon tax and price fixing (Feds set prices many on food items and ingredients like eggs and milk) and general de-industrialization concentrate to make this happen, and Loblaws seems content to make the extra cash. I've noticed Wal-Marts prices got significantly lower the last couple weeks on many items esp. meat.
