Oh man...you totally said what I was thinking about Hoekstra & Portnoy overplaying on this tune. I've mentioned before how much Joel Hoekstra is sounding cliched with his same predictable 'twiddly-dee' (Thanks, Dave) runs, and it's tiresome. Yes, we are fully aware that you can dupe Eddie Van Halen licks, but every damn time Joel? Portnoy's drumming gave me a headache, and you were so spot on to say that he wasn't serving the song but showcasing his chops. I'm not sucking up here, but I think Dave is a better drummer in that he plays the groove and stays in the pocket. But Dino Jelusick, ladies & germs...that mofo can SANG! I so appreciate you posting & reacting to my suggestion. I love you two! 💞

souped up version. Vocals were insane. If Dave thinks Portnoy is unleashed here. The MORSE/PORTNOY/GEORGE - Baker Street (cover version) has Portnoy overplaying a smidge too (and with that song it seems even more wild) . It's not Eddie Van Halen that Hoekstra is imitating. He was influenced by Jeff Pilson whom he replaced in Night Ranger. 40 years ago, Jeff Pilson was considered innovative by his 8-fingered tapping on guitar.
