Really good point about verbal rewards and praise not actually always being helpful, found that with my lab verbal praise made him excited then wanted to charge ahead

Your advice is spot on! Works a treat with our 6 month old Lab. no pulling anymore. Also the transition back to just the slip lead (instead of figure of eight) might be work in progress, but is much improved from before. Thanks and keep the vids going!

OMG..if only my kelpie would walk like this, this is not pulling, you would know what pulling was if you took my lad for a walk, this type of walking would be my dream. he's also got a halti type thing on his face.

It's a shame more owners don't seek out help with pulling. Simply making that decision "I am not going to allow my dog to pull any more" is all that's required. Like any bad habit, the decision to stop it is the first step. Rather than praise, I use a clicker (with some dogs, not all) and click for being in position and throw the treat backwards or out to the side so the dog has to find the position with each rep.

Wish my spaniel would pull like this, our wrists get so sore, she pulls instantly and your knocked off pavement or something, worst with pram…

You fancy coming to Scotland. We have a 4 year old Springer and unfortunately he pulls and takes us a walk. I have him wrapped round my waist which prevents the pulling but not by much. Past couple of walks he is cutting his paws because he drags so much

Scott John Monk I don’t need to come to Scotland for that. Just join our online training group, we have training videos on this that will help, videos on choosing the right collar/lead for your dog, engagement videos, introduction to leash pressure videos and directional guidance videos. You will be able to teach your dog to walk nicely from that. We’ve got people in the group who have been dragged over, had their shoulder pulled out of their socket and now they’re loving walks.

I thought so too, but later in the video (9:57) he gets her to take the loop off his nose and you can see it was just looped from a simple slip lead.

That is not a normal slip lead, it has something on his nose also

      It's a figure of 8 lead

You can literally put any slip lead into a figure 8 over the nose
