I love both Millésime Vanilla Planifolia and the recent edition Millésime Tonka. These are not here to replace Shalimar since they are limited editions. ;-) I'm quite happy that Guerlain does these Millésime fragrances since they are really good and reasonable priced compared to other perfumes in their portfolio. And though I love both Spiritueuse Double Vanille and Tonka Impériale, I don't believe the Millésime fragrances are redundant. They have similar olfactory profiles but still offer the Shalimar DNA with a nice twist. Very gourmand and indulgent for Vanilla Planifolia and more sophisticated and powdery for Millésime Tonka. I also found latter to be more unisex and grown-up. VP is for snuggling in bed in the evening and MT a great fit for an evening out in my opinion. Both provide a very rich and dense feeling but without being cloying or smelling overly synthetic which is a real blessing nowadays! ;-).
This one sold out soooo fast in the U.S. and now I'm seeing it being sold for over double the price on the resale market. Thank you for reviewing this! Hopefully I'll get to try it if they do another round.
Hi there, Mr P.! I just can't believe how many Shalimar incarnations are out there!! The EDT, the EDT, the extrait (one of the most beautiful scents on the planet, I agree!) and the souffle and the filtre and now the millésimes..... It seems like Shalimar fans have an insatiable hunger for new incarnations of the scent. And for good reasons, obviously. I personality think that the original is hard to beat....... It was Shalimar by the way, a tiny unassuming sample of the extrait lurking in my aunties bathroom that got me hooked on perfume when I was in my early teens. I had never smelled anything so beautiful and I still admire my 13 old self for his excellent taste 😋
🙋🏻♀️I adored Shalimar in my teens, there was something so special and different about it❤️ Whilst I was on a scent memory search in Oct’21 of divine parfums my mama used to wear;I found a love for Niche and then fell upon these beautiful Shalimar flankers…the bottles starting from 2000 were soo gorgeous… needless to say I have systematically hunted and found a few beauties 👏🏻😍 still on said quest, some bejewelled rareties🙏🏻 The 90 year anniversary looks amazing( I do not own ) 😭 I adore the Tonka scent, I found Vanilla Planifolia , It’s pretty a, softer Shalimar… my husband responded that “ I smell like ice-cream” As he has “no nose “ 🤦🏻♀️ he has only responded twice , a total Recoil to BAC Rouge 540 extrait and his favourite food staple Ice cream😂 Thank you fellow Shalimar lover albeit a year later🙋🏻♀️🇦🇺❤️, Stani
Thanks for this live unboxing! I found Vanilla Planifolia pretty straightforward and monodimensional while Millesime Tonka does change with time. I get the powdery bitterness of tonka that mutes to a delicious amaretto liqueur. Shalimar DNA is definitely there which to me makes the new release so perfect.
I don't usually like tonka bean in my fragrances, but I love this Shalimar flanker! Do you detect sassafras or sarsparilla in the opening? I smell it this flanker as well as Millésime Vanilla Planifolia. Congrats on the youtube milestone, your channel is grossly under-rated. 😄
Aw, another live I missed! On one hand, I was really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this one! On the other hand, I wouldn’t have cared, lol. I absolutely LOVE this flanker. I’ll admit to purring as well the first time I wore it, and every time after. It appeases my Shalimar purist self (I have a few vintage extraits, and edt and pdt), to where I can definitely still sense the Shalimar feel- which is what I was missing in other flankers. But it’s different enough to where it doesn’t feel redundant on my shelf. A perfect flanker in my book. The tonka is so delicious, rich, with that nutty powdery feel. And that suede is so smooth. I’m just annoyed it didn’t come out in a larger size and sold out so quickly. My husband and I have both been wearing it nonstop and he has already tried to hide the bottle from me twice so he can keep it for himself😂
Sold out on the US site by the end of the first day and people were getting emails with canceled orders and refunds. I’m hoping it was just a little mini launch with some more to come this month, but who knows. This has been the only Shalimar flanker that I’ve really been taken with. And I do get little bits of that “chilly” aspect you mention. Overall a very warm and cozy fragrance but never too heavy because of that coolness. And I just adore the nutty powder (things that read as makeup type powder is not my jam in fragrances). Ms. Jelk and Co. a hell of a job on this release. I think it’s going to have a lot of fans
Ah alas I missed this live too…. Thank you for your thoughts on this ánd the blotter update 👌🏻🙏🏻 I love OG Shalimar soooo much ❤ , love last years MVP too … aaaand also couldn’t resist ordering this version from Guerlain site just now 🤭😆
@@Persolaise Well it artived this morning and I can happily tell you I really really like it! It reminds me very much of OG Shalimar Parfum when I first bought a small bottle way back when. Much more so then MVP does. Must have been that Tonka that always mesmerized me. Happy happy Miek today 😁😉
I really like your video, are very beautiful.I am with doubts ,because in the Classic Shalimar. there something I can’t with it,but I love with craziness the Vainille . Thank you very much
I just got this and I love it! I hate all Shalimars and powdery scents but this is phenomenal! It has a huge dose of tonka which I appreciate and still a bit of shalimar underneath to give it some life. first initial spray it is strong but still lovely but it lasts 6+ hours on my skin and after a couple hours it dries down to a very sweet tonka powdery smell. just gorgeous 😍 and i am a shalimar hater or i was 🙈🙈
Oh my gosh, I feel exactly as you do about Shalimar. Mitsouko is my main love but a close second is Shalimar and I have so many versions including vintages it's nuts, well, there you go. Why Guerlain, why, why are you making this so hard to get? Apparently the US site had it for a few days and now it's gone. It makes me mad at Guerlain that those who want this can't get a bottle. Every flanker I have tried is interesting to me though one wonders how far they can go? I recall when Parfum Initial came out, I loved it, but my fragrance collecting friends thought it was sacrilegious to mess with the original. I kept quiet, haha!
I was wondering if you were going to do a review of this one. :) It sounds like the Tonka flanker would be perfect for autumn based on the notes. I wonder if it's trying to go up against the ambery chocolatey/nutty notes of popular fragrances like Good Girl by Carolina Herrera.
I find this one is quiet but it makes its presence known, you get whiffs of it throughout the day :) I would absolutely love to know if I'm not alone in thinking that !
I've only been into fragrances for a couple of years now and though its reputation tells me I must sample it to take this hobby seriously, I have yet to smell Shalimar. Once again, your praise for this creation has cemented that feeling. Are newer formulations of the original still any good, or has it been changed to the point where its not worth trying a new batch?
@@danilibo7005 you were right 🤩 I love it. My first reaction was "wow" and I could feel my mouth watering. So delicious and spicy and very shalimar but with an interesting dark and rich twist.
I usually have time for Shalimar flankers... however, none reach the heights of the original and never even really come close. Given that, I find I have more interest in and appreciation for the ones which don't try too hard to evoke the original, e.g. Shalimar Parfum Initial, which embraces the legacy or idea of Shalimar more than the scent. Last year's millesime was nice enough, but a tad too close to the original and not sufficiently different for me - I'd rather just wear the original EDT.
The issue is the perfumers at Guerlain are having serious problems of inspirations! Always trying to release a new flankers of the great classics of the house🤔 leave the classics alone! Can't they release a new Fragrance for once instead of flankers? Cheerio mate🥂😉
A cool Shalimar sounds fascinating. I wonder if their old Shalimar powder formula has served as a frame of reference for this. In it the Vanilla had been replaced by Tonka already in probably the 20s or 30s by Jacques Guerlain. I wonder if the cooler nature of tonka was the reason for him to have used it in the powder formula. I am sure that cool and powdery veil is a very "Guerlain" way of reinterpreting even their Shalimar (since they are already doing it). I am intrigued and very curious!
@@en.chamade now I need to rewatch the video. What did Dariush say about the almond note? Too much almond would probably ruin it for me. I wish it were done by Jacques! What would he think about all this flankerism anyway? Probably would say that if he had thought Shalimar needed coumarin and almond it would contain them 😂.
I wore Shalimar on my wedding day 48 yrs ago. Can't wait to open Shalimar To'nka, but I'm saving it for Christmas!
