Never, EVER get tired of listening to this. One of the best guitar solos EVER. Right at 2:46-7 is where the hairs on my arms stand up. Truly a masterpiece.
WOW!!! I can see why Steve Lukather praises this cat! Great production but I have to admit: AMAZING solo! From the fingers and heart of Jay Graydon! Wonderful!!
The guitar is not one my favorite instruments but due to the enormous influence of talented gentlemen such as Jay Graydon, Steve Lukather, Larry Carlton and other titans of the AOR/Westcoast scene, I'm slowly changing my opinion about it. And of course, we can't forget the rock of Gibraltar on drums, the unreplaceable Jeff Porcaro!
WHEWWW! This Is The Joint Right Here That I've Been Looking For!!!! I Was 7 When This Came Out & Could Only Remember The Part Where He Plays The Crap Out Of That Guitar Beginning @ 1:34 On Out!!! Feelin' This!!!
I think that he's probably one of the best soloists I've heard in any genre of music. I'm from a jazz background, so perhaps I appreciate it more than most
I guess it would be classified more as smooth jazz, but SPYRO GYRA's "islands in the sky" has a similar feel for the last 1&1/2 minutes, although it's saxophone instead of guitar... but as many others said, the guitar solo on this Steve Kipner track is so amazing... gives me goosebumps every time!!!
WOW! I have heard about this album, but just heard this for the first time! I have loved Jay's playing since first hearing him solo on Marc Jordan's "I'm a Camera" back in 1980......MASTERFUL!! Ok, I need to find a copy of this NOW!
Have you seen the sheet music for that solo? It's amazing to see just what went into the musicality... Thanks so much for uploading this... my Kipner album is full of annoying clicks, pops and other grunt from playing it too much -- it's amazing to hear such a pristine copy!
something interesting i've noticed: in most of the oldies on YT that a) basically everyone knows, or b) have a famous person or movie or whatever connected to them, the comments are almost nothing but crapping on contemporary music with some simple adulation, but in anything even SLIGHTLY obscure, like the stuff that i see on West Coast 99, people are ACTUALLY talking about the song, pointing out interesting details, and adding new information instead of complaining about the kids these days and their darn music i attribute this to two things: 1) the more popular stuff attracting normies, and 2) normies sucking
Why were the drums of this Era so phat and lovely sounding? That snare does not mess around. Modern drum kits sound very bland in comparison. Is it a combination of the mic, analog compressor, channel strip and being recorded to tape? I'd love to get that snare sound today
There's a few interviews around of how Porcaro got his snare sound. I've heard he used both Ludwig Supraphonic 400s and modded Radio Kings. As far as technicalities, I don't remember exactly how he tuned and dampened it in this era, but you'll get in the ballpark with a wallet or folded washcloth taped to the batter around 12 o' clock. I read somewhere on here that a Remo Diplomat or a Ludwig Medium (same weight) has a lot to do with it.
he plays a if he is just about to lose it-on the edge of blowing it but he doesn't thats a great way to play because it is close to sounding crap but no its just fantastic you have to be very good to do that.
this an amazing song and a knockout solo is it steve luakther NO!! it's mr gay graydon go on my song burn it upppppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mick in sunny hartlepool merry england.
another funny kinda meta thing: in I Write The Songs, mannilow proclaims that he is the one who writes the songs. but he is not the one who wrote THAT song. it wasnt even written FOR him originally, his performance is just a cover
THE ENDING (Steve Kipner/Jay Graydon) This music’s ringing in my ears Vocalizing to this microphone Laying tracks and synthesizing Triple tracking, harmonizing I’m gonna bring this record home Jake’s in the control Pushing buttons, drinking brews I’m lost in a cloud of smoke Convinced i just can’t lose I really hate to say goodbye I could keep on doing this forever The fact that you are listening now Shows to keep believing, chasing dreams So this is the story, how this record came about We thank you all for listening The band’s going to take it out
I never want the solo to end.
Me neither❤
Thought I was the only one! 👍👍
The great Jay Graydon😍
That guitar solo. Those chord changes. Unbelievable.
I didn't even have to check who the players were. I knew immediately as soon as i heard the guitar that it was Jay Graydon. Such a subpurb player.
All Japanese guitarists at the time were knocked out by Jay Graydon's perfect guitar solo!
Could have sworn it was Larry Carlton who did play on this album but it is indeed Jay. Brilliant.
このグレイドンのソロは今聞いても新鮮。
色褪せない名演だね。
Im glad steve kip."remove his Lyrics" soo Jay could just Scorch the earth with this solo....
75% of this song was a guitar solo. Superb. Could still hear that piano and bass. I love this sound of summer.
Never, EVER get tired of listening to this. One of the best guitar solos EVER. Right at 2:46-7 is where the hairs on my arms stand up. Truly a masterpiece.
unreal, it's fantastic.
WOW!!! I can see why Steve Lukather praises this cat! Great production but I have to admit: AMAZING solo! From the fingers and heart of Jay Graydon! Wonderful!!
Wow ......that whole section of chord changes during the guitar solo..........amazing..
guitar riff layered with keyboard and vocal harmony. Just excellent!
'The Ending': yet so good I keep going back to the beginning. You Tube is the ultimate radio station
Great GOODNESS!! Absolutely kills it with that harmony starting at 1:35, WOW!!! What a climax!!!
The guitar is not one my favorite instruments but due to the enormous influence of talented gentlemen such as Jay Graydon, Steve Lukather, Larry Carlton and other titans of the AOR/Westcoast scene, I'm slowly changing my opinion about it. WOW. Epic guitar work.
jay graydon on guitar at the end of this tune from 1979 waow waow !!!!
Just pulled out this vinyl and listened with headphones. This solo BEATS ALL.
Terrific bassline in this one!
David Hungate put the limits of bass sound !!! Great!
Real music... they don´t do songs like this nowadays! And the guiar solo makes me crazy, too!
This is a fabulous song! Music solo is fantastic!! Don't hear songs like this today!
Jay & Jeff stunning !!!!!!
this track gets me every damn time
wow. Graydon just shreds it!
WHEWWW! This Is The Joint Right Here That I've Been Looking For!!!! I Was 7 When This Came Out & Could Only Remember The Part Where He Plays The Crap Out Of That Guitar Beginning @ 1:34 On Out!!! Feelin' This!!!
Hands down,
Jay Graydon is the Jimmy Page of AOR.
Melhor comentário! Meus maiores ídolos na Guitarra Jimmy Page e Jay Graydon
jay Graydon numero 1
Jay always does that double tracking on certain parts, it sounds so lush! I love the chords and vocal choir and solo on the last part of the song!!
From Mr “Physical” 😎 Genius pop composer.
Jay Graydon, for the fucking win. 1:35
+Theprivateer83 That's awesome!
I think that he's probably one of the best soloists I've heard in any genre of music. I'm from a jazz background, so perhaps I appreciate it more than most
un 'altra produzione Jay Graydon che mi ha accompagnato nella mia giovinezza,
great signature Graydon here! Patiently waiting for JaR 2
And still patiently waiting, you and me both. Been trying to think of ways to encourage Jay to finish it!
Yes.. me to!
Great song and solo!
This solo is from other world. And then you realize Jeff Porcaro is playing the drums (pls listen to how the drums and guitar solo combine)....
I guess it would be classified more as smooth jazz, but SPYRO GYRA's "islands in the sky" has a similar feel for the last 1&1/2 minutes, although it's saxophone instead of guitar... but as many others said, the guitar solo on this Steve Kipner track is so amazing... gives me goosebumps every time!!!
maurizio sabatini Lukather!
i wanna thank you for the tip! really like the song and the album :D thanks a bunch.
In those days, amazing long guiter solo by Jay Gradon of this song broke down the most guitar freaks of the world.
Airplay forever!!!!!!!
This album is incredible.👍
that guitar riff
That Oberheim pad by Omartian under the solo is nice.
WOW! I have heard about this album, but just heard this for the first time! I have loved Jay's playing since first hearing him solo on Marc Jordan's "I'm a Camera" back in 1980......MASTERFUL!! Ok, I need to find a copy of this NOW!
It's as if Jay tag-teamed Larry Carlton for round 2 of "Kid Charlemagne."
1:34
When a song enters a mind melting OTHER dimension of sound, colour, euphoria.......
Just amazing
Amazing
amazing Jay's solo !
WHOOOAH.
Jay is superb explosive
Esta canción es bestial!, que buenos 80”s
I concur!

VERY NICE!
Jeffrey Thomas Porcaro
awesome solo !!!!!!
Rockin tunes Mr Kipner!!!
-Julian
Probably the most emocional guitar solo i have ever heard
יצירת מופת ! יישמע לכם דומה מאוד לסטילי-דן ולהקת טוטו ! סטיב קיפנר הוא בדיוק השילוב של סטילי דן עם להקת טוטו ! הנאה צרופה !
more !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NICE!
Jake the Rake still rules!!
Why were the drums of this Era so phat and lovely sounding? That snare does not mess around.
Modern drum kits sound very bland in comparison. Is it a combination of the mic, analog compressor, channel strip and being recorded to tape?
I'd love to get that snare sound today
yes i guess it iss. indeed the old tracks sound fenominal!
Yeah I've been thinking the same thing I hate modern snares and the drum pedals. And every guitar sounds drowned out in distortion.
Classic Jeff Porcaro
There's a few interviews around of how Porcaro got his snare sound. I've heard he used both Ludwig Supraphonic 400s and modded Radio Kings. Tune it low, and a lot of muffling.
Awesome stuff here man- check out this guys accomplishments in the songwriting field pretty impressive to say the least
Maybe because Jeff Porcaro,Steve Lukather,Bobby Kimball and David Hungate are playing on this Album ? :D
Very steely
Kniper worked with Peter Beckett prior to thr formation of Player.
he plays a if he is just about to lose it-on the edge of blowing it but he doesn't thats a great way to play because it is close to sounding crap but no its just fantastic you have to be very good to do that.
Not really. I am trying to collect everything what I can get into my Hands, when the Toto Guys (especially Jeff and Luke) are on it.
Somebody tell Rick Beato to deep dive this thing. Please.
this an amazing song and a knockout solo is it steve luakther NO!! it's mr gay graydon go on my song burn it upppppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mick in sunny hartlepool merry england.
Bestial esta canción! Que potente, me suena algo a Toto..
Jeff Porcaro (batería) y David Hungate (bajo) tocan en esta canción
Phil Keaggy!
It's funny-the lyrics are about writing the song.
another funny kinda meta thing: in I Write The Songs, mannilow proclaims that he is the one who writes the songs. but he is not the one who wrote THAT song. it wasnt even written FOR him originally, his performance is just a cover
Muy pechocho
I can't find lyrics anywhere
THE ENDING
(Steve Kipner/Jay Graydon)
This music’s ringing in my ears
Vocalizing to this microphone
Laying tracks and synthesizing
Triple tracking, harmonizing
I’m gonna bring this record home
Jake’s in the control
Pushing buttons, drinking brews
I’m lost in a cloud of smoke
Convinced i just can’t lose
I really hate to say goodbye
I could keep on doing this forever
The fact that you are listening now
Shows to keep believing, chasing dreams
So this is the story, how this record came about
We thank you all for listening
The band’s going to take it out
Heh, this guy co-wrote Olivia Newton-John's "Physical".
@jaymepaololaciste never gonna happen
