In this video I discuss a brief overview of potential injuries Aaron might face given his mechanism of injury. With a collapsing in of the knee as we witnessed in the video we would be worried about the following injures:
    - Extra-articular ligaments - MCL and LCL
    - Intra-articular ligaments - ACL and PCL
    - Fractures
    - Medial and lateral meniscus
    - Patellar dislocation
The differential is always kept quite broad especially when we see an injury such as this one. Given the amount of pain he was in, and the limited visibility of the limb, the team acted to stabilize the leg treating it as a potential fracture until a more thorough assessment can be completed in the locker room/ER.
I will update in the comments once we get more information about his condition. He will likely be out for the foreseeable future.

UPDATE - Aaron had surgery to repair lower extremity fracture. Even though in the video it was worrisome for a ligamentous injury. When an athlete is in that level of pain, it's always important to rule out a fracture.

Ouch knee injuries can be the worst. They have ended so many careers. Those hockey players are some of the toughest people I have ever known

yea 100%, honestly its easier to heal from fractures than some ligamentous knee injuries.

Knee injuries are always the scariest to me!

Honestly they are so tough. There are so many things that can go wrong in a buckled knee. I've seen some guys walk away with minimal injuries, while others blow out 3 or more ligaments in the knee (which is definitely a season ender)!

From a differnet camera angle you can see more. He gets injured on contact from the hit. His ACL/MCL or perhaps both were already damaged before he even got to the boards. Again a differnet angle shows this.

Interesting. Different views can definitely provide us with more information. With the equipment, it makes it that much more difficult to determine the exact instance where they get injured. Appreciate your thoughts.

@@SonamMD In the angle I watched we can see the full play develop. As Aaron makes a play on the puck he pivots his leg and turns backwards. Simultaneously absorbing a leg on leg impact to the side of his knee. I could see the knee wiggle and give out at that moment. I think what we see in this clip is his leg just collapse after he gets to the boards. The clip we see here looks so bad ... most think its a broken leg. I am no expert, but severe ligament damage is my first guess.

Your point is quite valid. If his ligaments were already impacted, his stability would have been gone and your right, it would have buckled completely when he went to weight bear on it.
