@@HighOnCars1 exactly and for me I found them to be all minor and no majors for me 🙃 maybe I am just a little less fussy. The only major complaint I heard about the outlander is the heating can break down and not heat the car and will cost thousands to fix? Not sure if I read that one right but my heating works albeit I feel it was a little weak compared to my old 2006 civic. But anyways the only kinda bigger "dislikes" I have is the sunroof can be bigger going back to the rear seats like others cars have done and the ride being harsh for an SUV but it is ok, tbh the only affordable suv i found to be more comfortable is a nissan x-trail.
Totally agree with the senseless button layout, esp the Park button and seat heaters. Am always annoyed that the door switches are not illuminated in many cars. I am closely monitoring the BMU's battery health status as well. I am trying to communicate with my dealer, who claims to be the PHEV experts in my State, and so far have had heard nothing but crickets for the past 3 weeks. Otherwise, I enjoy the car very much and it is suiting my family's needs very well.
I have the adaptive cruise control buttons as well. One to turn it on and off and the other to set the distance from the car ahead and I still have the blank buttons. 4HS? Which country are you in? My car is a Canadian model.
I actually prefer to have the button on the door handle to open the door. Otherwise, the car needs the fob receiver to be powered at all times, and oftentimes you see failures in the module that controls it, resulting in phantom battery drain issues.
Agree on all said and have a few additional annoyances to add myself. 1 I'd like some more storage compartments inside the cabin. The infotainment system seems all together to be a bit outdated. The remote app is horrendous in it's design, and the wifi range ridiculously short, I have to literally stand almost next to the car to get the app to connect. In winter there's some issues with ice build-up in the space between the hatch and the chassis that causes issues when you open the hatch, same thing with the charging bay, gets filled up with snow and ice in the winter, especially in the way it's designed ice often builds up in the bottom of they bay. There's also a number of other minor issues as well, but these are the ones that annoys me the most. Beside the battery issue, I have a 2019, been running it for a few months and the SOH (according to the battery management system) is down to 90% witch is plain impossible. Lithium Ion batteries just don't degrade as quickly as this so its plainly a bug that Mitsubishi for some unknown reason seems to have major issues to fix (or a lack if interest in fixing it).. But overall, after all the complaining, I really do like this car! :-)
Hello, thank you for sharing your thoughts about the PHEV. Could you give your opinion about the 4wd system ? I have read about poor results, not much torque is going to the rear wheels, and traction control works bad in offroad situations.
I live in the Toronto area and winter here pretty harsh and I saw significant difference when using the AWD lock and used it everytime there was a snow storm. It does work.
There are lots of small little things the remind you that Mitsubishi is still very much a value-based manufacturer which builds more cars for 2nd & 3rd world countries than developed 1st world nations. The lack of a touch-sensor on the door handles, the un-lit window switches, the cheap-feeling interior...all these little things are stuff Toyota, VW & Ford have LONG solved. The rest of the Outlander PHEV especially the powertrain is definitely unique, but the little details are why Mitsubishi still plays 2nd fiddle next to players like the Rav4 Hybrid, Ford Escape & VW Tiguan.
Another reason could that they're sharing parts with their other vehicles. And those other vehicles have these complaints because it's cheaper to not fix them. If that makes sense.
2018 PHEV: Heater doesn't work. That suck big time. I took it the service and they didn't find out that hear does not work. Car got 48,000km and the service cost is $1,108 CAD.

I would LOVE to get an inside view of how Mitsubishi design cars. It’s just mind blowing how these decisions can go all the way through to production without ANYONE saying “ahem, maybe group the driver assist buttons in one cluster?”. I’m dying to know this! Mitsubishi is a multi billion dollar conglomerate! How does it happen?
Why would you go through the menu while driving anyways when you are driving you should focus on the road not the buttons. And in my opinion the good features outweigh the the bad. But if they fixed those minor issues then it would be even better.
You are missing in your review the fact that this car loses the acceleration when is going up hills for more than 10 miles since the cell battery gets depleted and at that point, the fan stop working and gets overheated. Did you try to go up hills in this car for more than 10 miles?
@@HighOnCars1 They are telling me to push either the save battery bottom of the charge battery bottom, but none work for long steep hills. In the end the battery gets depleted and you are in trouble. In trying to connect with Mitsubishi headquarters of USA but so far no answer from them. But I found in the manual a sentence that actually said that they are not recommending to drive in long hills.
Yes by pushing these button should put the car in petrol mode, no over heating. Any way why use up elec going up hill when you can charge it up going down, on long up hill drives I never use electricity , as you know it will deplete it .🏴🚗
These are the things you learn over time while using the vehicle, kind of hard to identify during a short test drive. Besides, they're not dealbreakers.
All the valid annoying little things but its not even close to the major battery degradation problem due to the falsy BMU software that causing .1 Ah drop in 4 to 10 days...
I'm going in for service on Monday and they told me that they have to do a software update. I asked them which issue is addressed and the service advisor didn't know. I'll keep you posted and let you know what happens on Monday.

DId you change the configuration of the icons on your screens in the multi media control? I have a 2019 GT and the PHEV icon is on the second screen. I Would like to have it on the first screen like you do. IS there a tool or can the dealer change the icon order?
I had this for a test drive all day today. Pretty much everything you covered in this video was what I didn't like. Also, if you have to use your phone for sat nav then I need somewhere to put it as it needs to be plugged in. The cup holder is not acceptable. I also found the centre console too low down and those buttons for the heated steering wheel are tucked out the way so.much so that they are borderline dangerous to newer drivers. I also don't understand why auto hold isn't on by default - surely makes sense to have it on and require you to turn it off? I don't understand why there is an option to drive with the petrol engine and it not charge....unless I'm not correct with my assumption that the "normal, save" option does charge the battery? If so why is there a "normal, charge" mode as well?
I use a magnetic air vent phone holder. All cars require the brake hold to be activated. "Save" saves the EV range and uses the engine to drive the car instead. "Charge", uses the engine to drive the car plus charges the battery and uses more gas. Normal drive more uses the engine to drive and charges when possible but doesn't use additional gas. Please watch my in depth review on the channel. I've covered everything in great detail.

I did drive it a fair bit in EV mode and was impressed with the economy, but there's too many negatives for me to switch - drive a Discovery Sport at the moment. RE the brake hold.....regular automatics hold the car on the throttle when on a hill....I didnt like how this one rolled back unless I put auto-hold on.
You would want to use the save mode if you're gonna be driving on the highway where the gas engine is efficient and then drive in EV when you are gonna be driving in the city and won't have access to a charger. Or if you want to show off your EV driving experience to someone but will lose the EV range while driving to them. Hill assist is different from brake hold. Some cars have both. In Canada HSA (Hill Start Assist) is standard in all Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs.
I like that they at least HAVE a key hole in the door. If your electrics fail, you can still get in. 60k? I see entry level PHEV models in PNW under 32 grand. How did going to GT double the price? Do they not offer all the discounts in your location and mark them up a ton??
Under $32K? You must not be looking at the Canadian website because the Canadian pricing is $43,498 for the base model of the PHEV. I mentioned the MSRP of the car because the rebates vary from province to province. In Ontario the rebate was $7000 at the time but the program was shutdown by Doug Ford. Now there's a federal rebate of $2500 on it.
High On Cars my point was mostly there is no longer cars from Honda, and most brands with stripped cheap options here in the USA. BTW, I like Mitsubishi, they sell few, here.
The Outlander PHEV will be redesigned for 2022 getting a bigger 2.4L 4 cylinder engine, more powerful electric motors and a bigger battery rumoured to get 100 km on a charge. I'm sure they'll fix all these issues too.
High On Cars Lets hope so, I`m planning to upgrade to the 2015 - 2016 model from my Ford Kuga 2012. I drive 110 km every day and want to save some fuel cost 👍 So, the 2022 model will not be an alternative for me, yet ... 😎
High On Cars It’s 55 km to work, and back home again. So hopefully I can charge in both ends most of the the days, but pure electrical cars has the right to charge first at work. So then I`m not to far away from the 35 km. I think it will be less during the winter time here in Norway... 👌🤔
100 km should be perfect for you then. It will cover almost all of your commute to and from work. Norway, what a beautiful country and the highest selling EVs in the world. You must get great rebates on them.
What I hate on my PHEV is that annoying beeping every time I do open door step out, not put belts on.... Why I didn't observe it while I was doing test drive... I was hoping there is a way to switch it off or tune a little down at least ... ! Maybe you have some idea how to shut it up ?
You're right. It is indeed very annoying. I'm sure you can have an electrician turn it off sometimes but I'm not sure how that will affect your warranty. You might want to check with your local Mitsubishi dealer but I'm pretty sure they'll either refuse to do it or advise that it will void your warranty.
It is odd how now more and more of a cars setup is software controlled - yet how little access they give to the owner to fine tune / control those sort of things rather than having to accept what the manufacturer thinks is a good setting Agree about the illogical switch grouping and positioning though

Can you tell me if cruise control works in EV mode? I just test drove one, and it told me in no uncertain terms that cruise control wouldn't work in EV.
It does works in EV mode. I've been driving for over 2 years now and can confirm that it does. However, if the car in front of you switches lanes and your car has to speed up, the engine might kick in depending on how much speed it has to get to.
@@HighOnCars1 That's strange. I witnessed the message on a 2020 model myself. The dealer told me when I asked about it that it won't "because it can't charge the battery". That's nonsense, of course. I'll take one for a spin again and investigate further. Thanks for your reply.
Happy to help. In my experience, dealers don't know what they're talking about half the time and for some reason they'd rather misinform than say they don't know. Let me know how it goes.
Just to clarify. When you put the car in cruise, it automatically disables the EV mode but that doesn't mean the car won't continue to drive in EV mode if it still has juice in the battery.
So you complaining about stupid shot for lazy behavior. When I resd complains I though issues like the seat gets bad after heavy usage for years. The shocks has low weight limit that reduce the life of the back shocks if you use a tow hitch.
Clearly you've never driven nice cars and can't appreciate convenience/quality. Also, if you don't like the video, you can move on. No one needs your negativity.

I wouldn't worry about the battery unless you drive a lot and are worried that the warranty will run out which is 10 years/160,000 km.
High on my model of the outlander A 4HS the two blank buttons on the steering wheel are used for the adaptive cruise control

My car has a button on the door handle but you still need the fob for it to work. It's a security feature.

That sucks. I had zero issues with my Outlander PHEV in the 3.5 years that I had it for.

That's strange. Once the EV range is depleted, it should function as a regular hybrid vehicle without overheating, uphill or not. It's unacceptable.

My 2010 outlander GT has a sensor to open and close the door. Kind of odd they removed that with the new outlander.
Is yours a PHEV? If not, it makes sense because PHEVs are expensive to build and they cut corners everywhere they can.
That makes sense maybe they left that in the regular outlander not the PHEV to save costs.

32k is Base PHEV left over from last year. Effectively with the tax rebates and state incentives they are about $25k. A base 4 cyl is 20 grand here.
Meth Mouth nothing to do with that car, and yeah, great value for plug in SUV. The option of cheating basic is low out there.

I'd be happy with 100 km. Even the current 35km on a charge make a great difference because you're getting 35 kms everyday. It all adds up.

@@HighOnCars1 That's strange. I witnessed the message on a 2020 model myself. The dealer told me when I asked about it that it won't "because it can't charge the battery". That's nonsense, of course. I'll take one for a spin again and investigate further. Thanks for your reply.

In my experience, dealers don't know what they're talking about half the time and for some reason they'd rather misinform than say they don't know.

Just to clarify. When you put the car in cruise, it automatically disables the EV mode but that doesn't mean the car won't continue to drive in EV mode if it still has juice in the battery.

So you complaining about stupid shot for lazy behavior. When I resd complains I though issues like the seat gets bad after heavy usage for years. The shocks has low weight limit that reduce the life of the back shocks if you use a tow hitch.
Clearly you've never driven nice cars and can't appreciate convenience/quality.
Also, if you don't like the video, you can move on. No one needs your negativity.

Not really. Test drives are short and the focus is on the driving experience. These are things you notice when you actually live with the vehicle.
