I wouldn't do this test on a large domestic main like in a hotel because if the sensing line is plugged and you shut off the #1 valve, it will probably dump 100% from the relief when you turn it back on. Most hotels aren't happy with a 2-3 hour unscheduled rebuild. Also, do you know why most watts 909 devices with 1/2" test port ball valves are plugged? My guess is bad design that lingers because i see new ones installed all the time. Edit: i'm going to try this test on less essential devices. Edit2: This reminds me of the PVB test

Great comment. I can't tell you how many times the rv has dumped for me even during the flushing sequence at the beginning of the test - especially on the larges diameter 909's. The 90 that attaches the sensing line to the RP is almost always plugged. Geez for the price Watts charges for a 909 you'd think they'd be designed a bit better. And yes, similar to a PVB test but think of it as a double check valve test procedure on an RP. Thanks for the comments.

Watts 909 2.5 and larger hydraulicly collect debris because of the way water flows through the assembly.Debris collect s in the test cocks and clogs sensing line i have seen this in at least 10 states from colorado to all if the east coast its not water quality its too omnipresent to be so i have been told this is the last year of the 909 prototype flanged have talked to many in the industry no concrete answer replacing the old 909 good thing i have seen too many times go to a full dump destruction putting air bleed valve on the relief potential disaster for. Testers thinking it is a testcock thanks for responding to my earlier text

One hose test does not test for backpressure when you drain all the water out of the relief valve you have trapped air. If creates stress on the relief valve blows out o rings etc air is compressable water not colorado water purveyors are banning iapmo asse because they teach it i taught iapmo for 3 years and this method it doesn't work and is an invitation for problems your video s are good as is your facility

Our jurisdiction allows this test strictly for troubleshooting/diagnostic purposes - not for actual readings to be submitted. Thank you for the compliments and comments. Come by our facility if your ever in the albuquerque area.
