So I made a slab with dimensions 40x60cm and there were 2 big holes that I wanted to fill with epoxy. I put a thin plastic bag and filled it with rice, and put it in the holes, so I put the bag in a measuring cup and found the volume. It was pretty accurate.
I've only made two river tables, but I use a much simpler method to determine amount of epoxy: put your pieces in the mold, then fill the river with something- I use bird seed, take the pieces out and transfer the bird seed to a measuring bucket

Thank you I was looking to make some cutting boards for Christmas since I started woodworking my family always want me to make stuff for them and I’m like guys this is my business I can’t just make furniture and give it away I usually just strictly do wood no epoxy but I found you and I’ve been Binge watching learning how to do epoxy and I wanted to make sure I did it right
I would make the frame and measure its volume. Then measure the pieces volume and subtract that from the total then add a small amount to account for absorption?
The volume of a Triangular Prism is ½ x b x h x w. So that last volume you calculated is supposed to be divided by 2 since we are dealing with an approximate triangular shape.
Ebuka Francis thank you! The reason I don’t do it that way is because you will always need extra epoxy. This covers seepage and absorption. So by getting the general rectangular shape you save yourself the hassle of under calculating.
Thank you for linking this video to me. I hope one day I'll make something awesome like you do. Do you have any tips on leveling a piece of warped dry wood? I don't know the technical terms, but my neighbor said to call around wood working places and ask them if they would do contract pieces. I failed cause I couldn't ask them properly. How should I go about asking theses places to level a piece? I ramble when I'm excited, sorry.
Aaron urz good question. You don’t need to figure that out. When you order resin, it comes with part A and B and is already portioned out. If it’s a 1 gallon kit, it has enough A and B to make 1 gallon when mixed together. Make sense?
Hi Guys i have a question for you i want to make a river table i got 15 litter of liquid to use the size is 150 cm 80 cm 4 cm thick will it be enough? what to compromise
Thank you. I was wondering if you have a email for a question. I'm working on a cookie slab and almost ready to epoxy. Would be great to get your opinion before I pour the epoxy. I don't think I can post a picture here on RUclips. Thanks
that is very helpful but if you are in a area that has pour cell service and can't use Google just remember that one liter will fill 61 cubic inches. So take you total cubic inches and divide by 61 that will give you the total liters and there are 4 liters in a gallon.
Wow cool. One of best videos Glad google search gave me you today.omg expensive. 5 table top of foldable tables looks about size & thickness of your project it will take me 5. 56 gallons. I guess I could do 1 at a time every few months till do all. Michael's not have that amount so hope you have a link or can find cheapest 1.5 gal. I hope I can do this project & also saw your's finished & process. They only have the 8oz online. The box one with chess table etc was expensive I think & out or not see when went, cuz covid salpeole that wree able to go there got it plus curious of other item glowed the dark was put clearance. Doubt will get it again for that price either. $4 great to try out. You said kit, but its $95 expensive gallon. I think i just will do shine ia less money etc. I just need the tables to look nice. Protected. Tired of them being like that and further damages in estetics etc. I guess when fix my place & have room to work etc finally then I can work on them & pend money for them.my numbers was bigger and gallons says less. Weird. My foldable table got 18.2x14,by under 1 so rounding it to 1,cuz 2 lines away or so. Got 252.8.
Great job man. Really like your projects. I've made about 10 tables using epoxy resin from Famowood but I like the look that Stonecoat Countertops gives slightly better.
we are making 9x4 ft conference table today our labour measure total 22kg resin and hardner and mix than wait for few mins so bubble can goes off but when we pick bucket and try to pour it was already hardened :( what can cause this?
Leaving it in the bucket allowed it to get too hot causing it to harden. Also, what epoxy are you using? Sounds like you have the wrong type of epoxy as well.
@@GoodViewWoodworks actually there is no brand material imported in Pakiatan from germany and packed locally. but vendor said it is the best quality and low viscosity.
I like the video very help full but you could have gotten the measurement for that large open area by subtracting the 20" from the full length you measured at 26 1/4" and gotten 6 1/4" with out needing to find a straight edge
Hi dude, ahm,i had one problem with ur calculation,i don't know if u've catch that, the length of the river 261\4,i didn't see u adding to ur calculation, and i don't y,can u explain that?
Is there money to be made doing this? The price of the wood and the epoxy is crazy!!!! Also, can fresh cuts be used, or does it need to be aged and dried?
My way is easier. Box up the form, fill it with dust-free cat litter and measure it out as you go. Dump it back in the container and just use compressed air to blow any remnants out of the wood.
So I made a slab with dimensions 40x60cm and there were 2 big holes that I wanted to fill with epoxy.

There are a lot of videos out there for epoxy calculations, but I love this one. Awesome job.
Thanks Richard
Thanks for teaching me it was easy to follow thank God!
This video helps out so much. Going to be doing a 5 gal pour soon for a river table.
There's 128 oz per gallon so for smaller pours multiply by 128 to get ounces.
I Put cling wrap over my piece and fill it with water. Much easier for me but still a good video and excellent way of telling how much you’ll need
BradicalInWestAus that’s a great idea for those small projects!! It would be tough for a dining table though 😂
Thanks for breaking it down. You made it look very easy.
“The slap of the tape measure”🤙🏽😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks just awesome. Would like to see some of your resin projects.
I have tons on my channel. You should check them out
I'm sold on the math class. I hit the bell and subscribed. Thanks for the lesson.

This guy strikes me as a dude that you want to buy a beer for - without even knowing him!
I appreciate that bro!!!
hi. how to i prevent the wood to get burn and air bubble appear after i pour the expoxy. i wanna make a diner table for my new home. pls advise.
You can use a slow setting casting epoxy and a heat gun to get rid of air bubbles.
theres another type of epoxy? casting epoxy? the air bubble is not from the center part of the epoxy. is from the wood.
Yep. Just check the link in the description.
Great way to work out how much epoxy you need, thank you mate
Awesome, ty for this teaching....very simple to understand
Great video. Thank you.
Brilliant Thankyou love your work
Simple and useful info. I like it.
Nathan hey buddy if I buy stone coat do they have a deep pour
Yes they do. It’s called super cast.

How many gallons will I use for my 2 x 3 ft table and will use beer caps on top? Thanks and more power to your channel.rough estimate will do.
How thick is the table and how wide is the widest point of the river?
@@GoodViewWoodworks I only need to cover up all the caps and the top is plain sheet of plywood measuring 2 x 3 ft
Rene Rambongga ah! Okay so I would say you would need about 2 gallons.
Thank you sir
My console table top is 17.5 x 4ft.3 how much should I use and what do I spread it out with.. thanks

Keep up the great work and the great videos!!!!
Thanks Daniel!!!
that tape measure snap, i couldn't focus because i knew that damn tape measure was going to snap at any moment lol
😂 my bad
Does marine bondo work?
Nice work but how would I work out what I need for a round table project? Thanks
Instead of using area of a rectangle use area of a cylinder
Can I pour 1 1/2 inch thick with top surface face down even if the wood is 2 inches thick .
Which is the real unit of measurement to do a quantity
Easy! Awesome video

I would measure the length width and height of the voids that you’re filling with the Epoxy and add them together
Good info 👍
Thank you Thank you Thank you!
You’re welcome!!!
Curious to see how your table came out. Post a photo.
Which table?
Thanks for the video! 👌💯 so just to recap its (L)ength x (W)idth x (H)eight = cubic in ... Followed by converting the volume from sq in to gal
You got it my friend!!
cubic inches
LxWxH= cubic inches
What if you are doing a small pour and need to convert tp ounces?
How small?? If it’s really small you can always use smaller increments.
When doing all the layers, do you use the same epoxy, or are you using different epoxies?
Great question! When filling the large Voids, you are going to use Casting Epoxy. When coating the surface, you are going to use a Countertop Epoxy.
You're more my speed. Ty

So Nathan, if you spend $150 on 1.5 gallon kit from Stonecoat, how much are you goung to sell that project for?

There is definitely money to be made! No you cannot use “fresh cuts”. Your lumber always has to be dry. 12% moisture content or less.

I’m confused on the pecan coffee table that you did was way bigger and you said that it take you 1.5 gallons ?? How
