Lets say, if the government of Germany would ban the drinking of alcohol at home, the percentage of law abiding Germans would drop to rock bottom ;-)
What I miss in Germany, the autumn potato festival.
Every autumn there were local festivals around dishes with potatoes.
Potato dumplings, pancakes, bread, sausage, potato soup and so on.
In 2019 there was an accident in which grease caught in the flames and exploded. As a result, two people died instantly and had some serious burns. That was a shock because there were more parties planned that no longer took place.
And in 2020 the folk festival could not take place at all. It is not certain whether it will continue in 2021.
Potato festivals must be a regional thing. Of course, there are usually autumn festivals for any kind of reason all over germany, from the Oktoberfest, over wine festivals to apparently potatoes. Having grown up in southern lower saxony i haven't experienced the potato variant, but then, we were back then usually plagued by completely muddy streets when sugar beets were harvested in the region ;)
I am not a big football fan but yes it was a big deal , like most indoor or stadium sports , I won't miss Silvester , Newyears fireworks usage . we have cats since I moved here in 2009 with my three cats from the UK . They have since passed away , but because of Covid limiting our normal traveling we decided to get two new Cats , so I was dreading Newyears madness , I have no issues with the organized displays in the Harbor here in Hamburg . But for the last two years we have seen two fires started due to stray rockets. In our street .
It is certainly odd times , no glad you avoided the political arguments taking place here , one thing the Germans love is to discuss everything in detail it's one of their faverate things.
Wishing you a good Christmas .
Great, as if not enough is banned already, now come the brits and take the posibility for detailed argues away. Nothing left
Maybe I should go fishing to relax ... wonder where I could go ;)
to be fair as german i never bought a single firework in my life xD and no one i know did xD we went outside the door for 10 minutes at midnight looked the firework of the neighbours and went back in xD sometimes i forgot its midnight as i was gaming with headset xD
Not a big deal in my oppinion, better than being guilty off infecting someone you like!
Well said! I think this is the notion that many people do forget. It's all about themselves... I have to wear a mask! I cannot go out shopping! I cannot go to the movies! I really don't like to think about me infecting someone in my family (or anyone, really) just because wearing a mask was too much for me.
I don't see how using some fireworks in front of your own house responsible will either infect someone or hurt someone. And those who would use it irresponsible, they wil have their big party and buy the more dangerous firework from poland (since they only stopped the sale and use on specific places, if you get your hands on firework, you can use ist)
@@swanpride I agree. I'm guessing they've prohibited it so they can crack down harder on those who refuse to act responsibly. I remember reading that common sense is our best weapon against this virus... which means we're pretty much f*cked because most of us are unarmed. It's always the ones trying to act responsibly who pay the bills for those who don't.
We will survive
Yeah, British talking about Germans liking to be drunk, sure thing ... ;)
it is the pot calling the kettle black for sure.
Hi Richie, well this year is strange. I havn' t watched much football either this year.
I am less interested in the particulars of the game, but enjoy the atmosphere and the fighting on the lawn. This year it's Yaaawn....
Fireworks are nice, as long as they are done professionally at public places, where people can come together, music playing and share drinks. But, of course, not possible due to well known reasons.
I don't miss this insane wasting and burning of money at all. The animals will appreciate this. Since I've had cats, I am used to spend New Year's Eve alone with them. Have to let them feel secure.
What I really do miss is the relaxed meeting friends on Christmas markets or other street events. In our town there had been a 100 year old tradition of " Turmblasen ", brass players standing on the Church steeple and blowing Christmas carols, a choir singing and Glühwein offered on the market place.
As soon as the shops close, people gather there to listen or even sing with the musicians. A wonderful tradition, now obsolete in order to avoid social contacts. Now, we have to watch it in the internet. Today, we have the longest night. As of tomorrow, things will lighten up again, slowly but surely.
Merry Christmas! 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎅
Many true words here!
Greetings Richie and have nice "Feiertage" for you and your lovely wife!
In the Netherlands they also try to stop our annual fireworks anarchy on new years evening.
No 4 is Carnival...
and what about the christmas markets...
Mein Hund wird das Feuerwerk auch nicht vermissen!
9:44 ... I understood "incontinental Europe" not so good in combination with drinking :D
😂

Your title really had me worried for a second. Could it be that complaining has been banned again?
But no, it hasn't, at least as long as we don't complain about things that are doubleplusgood.
You can see football like most of the people do it anyways - in front of a TV at home.
And same counts for drinking.
Well, there were quite lively discussion around fireworks already in the last few years, and in my city a few areas were off limit for those anyway, with many asking for a much broader ban. Of course, the main reason was air quality and noise pollution. As someone living in the middle of a quite large city in germany, it really was a war zone for new years eve until well into the morning of new year. And yes, of course the few nights before that mainly as well. After all, usually it is only allowed to sell fireworks to the public in germany for the last few days of the year after christmas.
I am extremely happy that there will be less fireworks, will there be fireworks at all? Of course, least of all obviously as Poland is just a few km away anyway.
you are such a cool and chill guy. I love watching your videos.
im not the biggest football fan but i understand where you are coming from and i have to agree with all your points.
Wishing you a nice christmas and huge success for your channel in 2021!
Thank you
Publicly drinking alcohol in groups on New Year's Eve only makes sense when you can have fireworks. I see no other reason why you should drink out in the cold. But I bet, had they forbidden it in summer, Germans would be less obedient. And if I wanted to drink in public: Do the police know whether that's water or vodka in my bottle, or how much whiskey there is in my Coke?
If it's about pets, you should also get rid of bells and motor vehicles (actually everything having a motor)!
Why do they forbid fireworks now? So it costs 10 years of organisation!
I really won't miss drunk people in the street handling explosives. They should be permanently banned from sale to private people. Organized fireworks done by pros are so much nicer anyway. And they clean up afterwards.
The "Geister" part of "Geisterspiele" refers to a lack of humans around, e.g. a "Geisterstadt" is an abandoned city.
aye
Wieder ein tolles Video von dir 👍🏽
We have had dogs for 40 years. All three of them have been terrified by noise and fireworks.
We haven't seen new years eve fireworks for damnit 40 years because we literally barricaded our house
btw: no one of our dogs name was Corona
Ach Böllerverbot schön und gut...
Ich erschreck den Hund trotzdem.
@@sualtam9509 Alle meine Hunde sind inzwischen tot. Versuchs mal mit mir Schnuggi
We in Niedersachsen may have Fireworks. This times people will buy fire works. I go with the dog in the Cellar. They here not much!
There is a message over your video saying it contains material banned in the FRG. What is going on?
It's a joke. He put that thumbnail there himself I believe.
Nett, vorn gleich deutsche Werbung, das Video läuft problemlos, noch problems watching this in Germany, last sicher game 21.12.2020
I am glad about the ban of fireworks this year . I have not missed them in my over 40 years abroad. I wished the Germans would spend more money on trees and animal care. Like your dog Daisy(?), lots of wild animals and other pets are scared and frightened with all the fireworks and noise. Watching football and other sports I do miss. Watched hightlights of the United Match against Leeds I watched last night on youtube, but the atmosphere is just missing. Mind you I am an ABU and would never watch them. I am a Bayern fan since 1963! In England I supported Leeds and that is why I watched the match. Sad result though.
Oh please. Germans have fun one day in the whole year. And if animals are really that afraid, how the hell do they survive a simple thunderstorm?
@@swanpride tztztz!?!? Comparing a thunderstorm with fireworks and firecrackers is a bit silly really. Mind you, to compare Cats and dogs with bobcats )(lynx) and wolves I find rather odd. My neighbour has about 50 + horses and they are frightend on new years eve . The wild boars in my woods just run further away from the village. Further away to the fields, woods and thicket of course.
By the way, I also have a swan family on my land, two adults and three cygnets at present. Usually they flee when there is that much noise about. Normally they come back next day.
We don't give up. The traditions will come back! I am sure that we will do something! Be patience!
Germany lost there Traditions years ago these are just hobbies they are forced to use as Traditions
For real?!?
No hate but whats so fun about getting a tinitus while being sourundet by drunkheads and watch a ball getting passed around
and if its a derby eventually ending up being nervous all the time and to hope the guys with the pyro dont freek out to much
i never got that and i am a german also its not like that nonesense is banned for ever.
wait you are not willing to pay 30€ a month for all games but 50€ (or mor) for a single one? pluss overprized food and drinks?
dude your maths dont add up at all
I disagree that we "do what we are told". To my mind we do what is best for all of us. Many know that they act irrational and that it is better to have a law or an order how to act more rational.
At least we have had "Der kleine Lord" last Friday (always last Friday before Xmas). "Drei Nüsse für Aschenbrödel" is broadcasted 50 times and "Dinner for one" will be on Sylvester too (incl. Ekel Alfred). 3SAT brings "Die Schatzinsel", "der Seewolf", "Wolfsblut", "Lederstrumpf" and today the 6 hour version of "Tom Sawyer" from 1968.
We look at the UK, the USA and think that we did a good job (except Saxonia with all their Querdenker demos). The Holy evening church service will be very different this year as noone in protestant or catholic churches will sing the carols (and this is good because singing is the most effective way to spread the virus).
Or ancestors survived two World Wars and we will manage the Covid pandemic. We will build up econnomy and social / cultural live again like we did in 1919 and 1945. We will show our grandparents that we are made from the same Old German Oak...
This government will not long be there anymore!
