@Richie, this may have been the most interesting video, to me, you have done thus far. I am from Frankonia, Schweinfurt, near Wuerzburg (should be on your list) Bamberg, Nuremberg, etc. If you like wine and the region where it is grown, then Unterfranken is a must! However, as a southerner i have never really been that interested in the north sea, or baltic. Been to Hamburg, been to the baltic, Wolfsburg, Braunschweig, Duesseldorf, Essen, just never got hooked. Your excitement and appreciation for (NOT mountains) cities and the sea was quite enlightening. Maybe i should give the Northern part of Germany more of a shot? I mean i did like holland... i would suggest for a change of scenery for you, visit franken, travel the Romantische Strasse, check out all the little castles and monasteries, visit 14-heiligen, etc. drink all the wine, drink all the beer, hundreds of breweries you have never heard of. best german food in the country, and doener, too :)
Did you ever visit a meteorite crater? If not, you must go the medieval town of Nördlingen (south of Nuremberg). The town is situated in the crater and does still have its complete town wall on which you can walk around the complete old city.
I have to agree about the Ruhr Valley. I'm from Wetter an der Ruhr (one of those green spots in the Ruhr Valley) and it is really nice. You have the atmosphere of a small town and all the nature surrounding you, but if you want to have some action and entertainment you can easily go to the next big city.
I have this in the middle of the Ruhr area in one of the big cities...when I walk in one direction of street, I end up at the fields of a farm and directly beside it a bird protection area starts. When I walk in the other direction, I end up in a small shopping area, with restaurants, a market place and a small shopping centre, and a lot of doctor offices are in that area too. When I need more than that, the inner city is only 16 minutes with the bus away. And if I want something my city doesn't have to offer, I can always hop one city over. Frankly, most of Germany's so called big cities feel to me like a Kaff. Not all of them, but most of them.

Auch ein schönes Stückchen Erde ! Schöne alte Städte, wie Salzuflen, Lemgo und Detmold, und hügeliges Wald- und Bauernland. An der Küste mag ich ganz besonders Amrum, südlich von Sylt, sowie Rügen und Usedom an der Ostsee.
I'd probably recommend the Weinstraße. You have a clear route then. The Eifel/Vulkaneifel is so nice too. There's of course the Castle Eltz aka. Castle Instagram. From the Weinanbaugebieten I'd recommend the Weinanbaugebiet Nahe for the Riesling. I'd say go to Weingut H.Dönnhoff, Schlossgut Diel, Gut Hermannsberg, Weingut Schäfer-Fröhlich or Weingut Korrell Johanneshof. There are more great producers, but these are a superb selection.
Wait what you lived in Rendsburg?? That’s 20 km away from me :0 didn’t expect that. And I went to school in Eckernförde :D. Eckernförde is actually a very touristy city for Germans. In summer the streets are flooded with Germans from different states (mainly southerners that don’t have access to the sea). But I don’t understand why you recommend Kiel... it’s not very appealing (sadly got really destroyed in WW2) :/.

I like my Lüneburger Heide Area, it's nice that Hamburg is so close! And I loved visiting the Rhine/Moselle region as a child , too. Visiting the Erzgebirge and Spreewald is on my "to do list"!
Wenn du nach Franken kommst (Nürnberg), ist auch Bamberg Pflicht! Mehr als tausend Jahre Stadtgeschichte, UNESCO World Heritage Site (und zwar die gesamte Altstadt), "Welthauptstadt des Bieres" mit noch immer 9 Brauereien in der Stadt, die zusammen 50 verschiedene Biersorten brauen, dazu etwa 40 Brauereien im 15 km - Umkreis, mehrere hundert im oberfränkischen Umland, zum Teil nur in jeweils einer einzigen Kneipe erhältlich. Größte Brauereikonzentration der Welt, ältestes Reinheitsgebot Deutschlands, älter als das offizielle bayerische (von 1487, wenn ich mich nicht irre - gegenüber dem bayerischen bzw. "deutschen" von 1516). Bamberg wurde sozusagen auf und mit Bier gebaut - die ganze Kulturgeschichte hängt damit zusammen. Auch heute eine unvergleichliche lebendige Kneipen- und Biergartenkultur (vor Corona und hoffentlich wieder danach). Keine für Touristen herausgeputzte Museumsstadt wie Rothenburg o.d.T. Universität mitten in der Stadt und und und... Vielleicht die schönste Stadt Deutschlands (?). Für mich als an den Bodensee umgezogener Saarländer, der viele Orte in Deutschland zwischen Flensburg und den Alpen kennt, ist Bamberg jedenfalls Favorit.
Sehr schöne Liste. Tatsächlich kenne und mag ich all diese Orte. Meine Tipps: 1. Campingplatz Langenargen am Bodensee, mit etwas Glück direkt am Wasser mit Blick auf die Schweizer Alpen. Wasserburg und Lindau sind in der unmittelbaren Nähe. 2. Plöner See/Holsteinische Schweiz, Lübeck ist eine tolle Stadt. Wenn ich könnte, wollte ich dort leben. Ich wohne in Langenfeld und freu mich immer auf kurze Trips in den Pott.
Wer gerne am Wasser ist, sollte die Mecklenburgische Seenplatte besuchen. Es ist ein verzweigtes Netz von Seen und Gewässern und man kann dort ausgedehnte Touren mit dem Segel- oder Hausboot machen.
Hallo Richie, also Bernkastel-Kues, die Mosel und der Hunsrück gefallen mir auch sehr gut! Zum Weinfest (im Spätsommer) musst Du unbedingt mal nach Bernkastel-Kues fahren. Da ist dann ein großes Fest mit Kirmes und einem fantastischen Feuerwerk. Da kann man dann am Ufer der Mosel picknicken und am Abend das tolle Feuerwerk anschauen. Einfach toll :-)). Richie, may I recommend to you two cities in the south? South means Bavaria, where I am from. One is Regensburg (or Ratisbon, if you prefer the Latin word), and the other one is Passau. Both are located on the river Danube (Donau), and are university towns, so you can meet people from all around the world once travel restrictions get lifted. I heard you like water, so I can surely say that a river cruise on the Danube would be interesting for you. I somehow fell in love with Regensburg, because of all its historical background. The Romans weren't dumb, they knew why to build a city in exactly that place. And famous astronomer Johannes Kepler lived there for a while. And the university of Regensburg is nicely located in a place called "Galgenberg", or gallows hill. Passau, on the other hand, has the advantage of being close to Austria, and they have the biggest church organ in Europe, if not the world. I'm not religious, but I once took the chance to listen to an organ concert in the Passauer Dom, and it was amazing. For both cities, I would recommend that you visit them in early autumn, because they are tourist targets, and hotel rooms are cheaper when you come off-season.
Visit East Frisia! It is rough but beautiful and very quiet. Everything is a bit slower there. And Flat. We have a saying: In East Frisia you can see on Monday, who is going to visit you on Sunday. I grew up in Emden and I love going back home :)
My favorite city in the north is Lübeck, in Franconia it's Würzburg. Also worth visiting are Dresden, Leipzig, Weimar, Wismar, and Schwerin. Just a 30-minute drive away from here: Mainz.
Richie, you seem really germanized... you're pronounciation is on spot! 👍 Beeing from NRW myself (half rhenish, half westfalian) I appreciate your choice for the Ruhr-Valley and the Sauerland. But don't forget the Eifel (or start exploring it)... the North (Northrhine-Westfalia) with it's huge water reservoirs (Rursee - without "h"!) and the South (Rhineland-Palatinate) with the vulcanic lakes (Maare)...

Culture more than landscape ?? Then Weimar is the place to go (!!) lots and lots of Museums ... if you like that. Dresden, Leipzig, for the big towns ... Glashütte for the watches, Meissen for the porcelain, and if you like English Gardens ... Görlitz Park ... You have been along the Mosel - so why not travel up the Rhine ... Middle Rhine Gorge ... all the way past the Rheingau to Wiesbaden ... Mainz ... the Palatinate Fasching ... I could go on forever ... but I´ll give others a chance to "exhibit" .... Cheers
Pay a visit to the Hallertau/Holledau area in Lower Bavaria. That is the area where a third of the worlds hops is grown. Very unique are the hop gardens. Near by is Regensburg and Landshut both very charming mideval towns.
Sag einfach Soester Börde^^.....grüße vom Möhnesee....was nicht so weit weg ist von Dortmund ist das Weserbergland, dort reisen wir gerne hin, besonders in die Gegend um Bad Karlshafen mit seinem Camingplatz direkt an der Weser
Interessante Orte. Deutschland ist wirklich schön. Das Berchtesgadener Land ist zwar leider von unserem Ruhrpott ziemlich weit wech, aber unbedingt ein Muss. Eckernförde ist wirklich toll und beim nächsten Mal noch ein bisschen weiter in den Norden, zur Halbinsel Holnis und nach Flensburg fahren. Und nochmal Ostsee...Fischland Darß, auch weit weg, aber ein Traum. Hach ja. 💕
Nichts Aufregendes, aber eine nette Kleinstadt, wo es in der Stadt und im Landkreis noch gutes lokales Essen zu vernünftigen Preisen gibt, man tolle Wanderungen und Radtouren machen und "den Herrgott einen guten Mann sein lassen" kann: Coburg in Oberfranken. Ausserdem kommt Prince Albert von da! :)
You should visit the "Mittelrheintal". There's a reason to be a part of the world herritage. If possible take a tour with a riverboat and don't forget your wife.😂 But there are many more nice regions in Germany to visit. Ie.: Dresden, Röhn, Erzgebirge.
I second all your choices apart from Kiel (and your story about your visiting the Moselle campsite as a kid and as a German speaking adult was really sweet). I personally also love Bodensee (Lake Constance ), - island of Rügen on the Baltic Coast, Dresden and Freiburg 😆
My favourite cities are Hamburg,Bremen,Dusseldorf,Berlin & Leipzig....nothing too surprising in these choices.Think i need to travel down to the south more in the future.

Meine Lieblingsorte (möchte aber noch viel mehr sehen) : Heidelberg, München, Hattingen, Rhein-Lahn Kreis (wo Loreley sang), sehr schöne Sicht von der Bahn aus und natürlich Bochum 😊 LG 🇪🇸
For everyones Information: the "Bad" in "Bad Münstereifel" does not mean "bad", but "bath" and is a sign a city has natural healing springs. In Aachen they even wanted to change the name back to "Bad Aachen" and advertised it with "MAKE AACHEN BAD AGAIN"
Trotz Corona war ich im vergangenen Jahr mit meinem Freund eine Woche in Leipzig. Die Stadt ist total super. Sehr "open-minded". Es gibt viele Restaurants aus verschiedenen Kulturen. Leipzig hat ne großartige Innenstadt und bunte Leute. Viele Grünflächen und den Karl-Heine-Kanal. Kann ich sehr empfehlen. Auf meiner Liste steht noch das Münsterland, der Spreewald und die Ostsee. Mal schauen, wo es dieses Jahr spontan hingeht. Viel planen kann man jetzt noch nicht.
Leipzig ist toll. Aber ganz ehrlich, man kann fast überall in Deutschland eine tolle Zeit erleben. Außer in Kiel. Da ist echt der Hund begraben. Spreewald steht auch noch auf meiner Liste. Und die Sächsische Schweiz. Aber im Augenblick schaue ich eher nach Zielen, die nicht so offensichtlich sind.

Hamburch ist auch meine Lieblingsgroßstadt in Deutschland.München ist auch ganz nett, für mich aber, genau wie Köln aus Prinzip nix.Ruhrgebiet hat auf jeden Fall auch ganz nette Ecken, genau wie unser platter Niederrhein mit ´n Paar Schlössern und ´n em Happen Kultur. Goosen und woanders ist auch Scheiße is ´n Megabuch.Hab den und Kumpane Redelings schön öfter live gesehen und fast alle Bücher von beiden. Hab Kumpel in Wien und Amsterdam, für mich neben Prag die schönsten Großstädte Europas.Weiter ist Leipzig Dresden und Sächsische/Böhmische Schweiz ´n trip wert.Hoffe übrigens ihr steigt auf,sieht ja ganz gut aus.Grüsse und beste Gesundheit vom Jlabbacher Idioten.
First: I think it's Bernkastel-Kues. Second: I missed the South in your video. My home is in fact a little bit closer to Milano than to Frankfurt, so my recommendations are all south of river Main.😙 For example the Allgäu with its picturesque towns like Wangen ("In Wangen bleibt man hangen" - 'you get stuck to Wangen'). Or Gailingen am Hochrhein - a steep place above the river Rhine. The image most people associate with Gailingen is that of the old wooden bridge over the Rhine to Diessenhofen (Switzerland) (which bridge is in fact some hundred meters away from and below the town of Gailingen). About a kilometer upriver you'll find the bathing beach, and in summer you'll see people come out of the water at the bridge and walking back to the beach because the current is too strong to swim back upriver. If you walk (or bike) farther upriver you'll get into Switzerland and than to the German exclave of Büsingen (there is also a bus line from Gailingen to Büsingen). But you could also enter (with your bike if you wish) a ship of Schweizerische Schifffahrtsgesellschaft Untersee und Rhein (URh) at the embankment in Diessenhofen for a trip up to Konstanz which is also a beautiful city. (These ships are long and low-slung, but at some of the bridges they even have to take the steering cabin down.) The most beautiful city at the Lake of Constance however is Überlingen (in my humble opinion).

Wir lieben es , mit einem Boot die Havel hoch und runter zu fahren. Es ist so schön dort. In Brandenburg und in Mecklenburg ;-)

My favorite city in the north is Lübeck, in Franconia it's Würzburg. Also worth visiting are Dresden, Leipzig, Weimar, Wismar, and Schwerin. Just a 30-minute drive away from here: Mainz.

But don't forget the Eifel (or start exploring it)... the North (Northrhine-Westfalia) with it's huge water reservoirs (Rursee - without "h"!) and the South (Rhineland-Palatinate) with the vulcanic lakes (Maare)...

Glashütte for the watches, Meissen for the porcelain, and if you like English Gardens ... Görlitz Park ... You have been along the Mosel - so why not travel up the Rhine ... Middle Rhine Gorge ... all the way past the Rheingau to Wiesbaden ... Mainz ... the Palatinate Fasching ... I could go on forever ... but I´ll give others a chance to "exhibit" .... Cheers
Just had a connection with nature in Tenerife. After two days my air mattress decided to become a ball.
Pay a visit to the Hallertau/Holledau area in Lower Bavaria. That is the area where a third of the worlds hops is grown. Very unique are the hop gardens. Near by is Regensburg and Landshut both very charming mideval towns.
Eckernfoerde fand ich auch schoen. Direkt raus aus dem Zug an den Strand und auf die Seebruecke.
Sag einfach Soester Börde^^.....grüße vom Möhnesee....was nicht so weit weg ist von Dortmund ist das Weserbergland, dort reisen wir gerne hin, besonders in die Gegend um Bad Karlshafen mit seinem Camingplatz direkt an der Weser

Das Berchtesgadener Land ist zwar leider von unserem Ruhrpott ziemlich weit wech, aber unbedingt ein Muss.
Eckernförde ist wirklich toll und beim nächsten Mal noch ein bisschen weiter in den Norden, zur Halbinsel Holnis und nach Flensburg fahren.
Und nochmal Ostsee...Fischland Darß, auch weit weg, aber ein Traum.

Norddeutschland ist auch immer eine Reise wert, im Norden die Nordsee im Süden den Harz(Niedersachsen).Kommt mal vorbei es ist sehr schön dort.😘
Nichts Aufregendes, aber eine nette Kleinstadt, wo es in der Stadt und im Landkreis noch gutes lokales Essen zu vernünftigen Preisen gibt, man tolle Wanderungen und Radtouren machen und "den Herrgott einen guten Mann sein lassen" kann: Coburg in Oberfranken. Ausserdem kommt Prince Albert von da! :)

You should visit the "Mittelrheintal". There's a reason to be a part of the world herritage. If possible take a tour with a riverboat and don't forget your wife.😂
But there are many more nice regions in Germany to visit. Ie.: Dresden, Röhn, Erzgebirge.
I second all your choices apart from Kiel (and your story about your visiting the Moselle campsite as a kid and as a German speaking adult was really sweet). I personally also love Bodensee (Lake Constance ), - island of Rügen on the Baltic Coast, Dresden and Freiburg 😆

Meine Lieblingsorte (möchte aber noch viel mehr sehen) : Heidelberg, München, Hattingen, Rhein-Lahn Kreis (wo Loreley sang), sehr schöne Sicht von der Bahn aus und natürlich Bochum 😊

Trotz Corona war ich im vergangenen Jahr mit meinem Freund eine Woche in Leipzig. Die Stadt ist total super. Sehr "open-minded". Es gibt viele Restaurants aus verschiedenen Kulturen. Leipzig hat ne großartige Innenstadt und bunte Leute. Viele Grünflächen und den Karl-Heine-Kanal. Kann ich sehr empfehlen. Auf meiner Liste steht noch das Münsterland, der Spreewald und die Ostsee. Mal schauen, wo es dieses Jahr spontan hingeht. Viel planen kann man jetzt noch nicht.
Und meine Lieblingsserie wird in Leipzig gedreht! IaF :-)
Leipzig ist toll. Aber ganz ehrlich, man kann fast überall in Deutschland eine tolle Zeit erleben. Außer in Kiel. Da ist echt der Hund begraben.
Spreewald steht auch noch auf meiner Liste. Und die Sächsische Schweiz. Aber im Augenblick schaue ich eher nach Zielen, die nicht so offensichtlich sind.
Oh Ostsee... ich kann jedem nur Lübeck und Schleswig empfehlen.

Second: I missed the South in your video. My home is in fact a little bit closer to Milano than to Frankfurt, so my recommendations are all south of river Main.😙
For example the Allgäu with its picturesque towns like Wangen ("In Wangen bleibt man hangen" - 'you get stuck to Wangen'). Or Gailingen am Hochrhein - a steep place above the river Rhine. The image most people associate with Gailingen is that of the old wooden bridge over the Rhine to Diessenhofen (Switzerland) (which bridge is in fact some hundred meters away from and below the town of Gailingen). About a kilometer upriver you'll find the bathing beach, and in summer you'll see people come out of the water at the bridge and walking back to the beach because the current is too strong to swim back upriver. If you walk (or bike) farther upriver you'll get into Switzerland and than to the German exclave of Büsingen (there is also a bus line from Gailingen to Büsingen). But you could also enter (with your bike if you wish) a ship of Schweizerische Schifffahrtsgesellschaft Untersee und Rhein (URh) at the embankment in Diessenhofen for a trip up to Konstanz which is also a beautiful city. (These ships are long and low-slung, but at some of the bridges they even have to take the steering cabin down.) The most beautiful city at the Lake of Constance however is Überlingen (in my humble opinion).
Stimmt. Das Dehnungs-E findet man im Deutschen noch hinter dem I und in Ortsnamen wie Soest, Itzehoe oder Coesfeld. Im Niederländischen ist es wohl noch verbreitet.
