i wish phone manufacturers realized that the image matters more than resolution. Give me a greater dynamic range at full 1080p and ill be more satisfied than having an 8k image with low dynamic range and high internal sharpening

@@opalanimz Which is sadly why they do it. They're catering to the masses, who they know do not understand what really makes a good camera, and will fall for that gimmick. "The camera is 8k which is twice as big as 4k! Movies don't even come out in 8k yet!!" They do not understand that dynamic range and bit rate make a much bigger difference to the quality than simply increasing the resolution.

Phones already have the best DR, there is nothing to improve on other than resolution now... And ofc, people who don´t know much about this will think wow 8k that must be a high end thing.

I think Arri does just that. Which is why their cameras are still industry standard. They have yet to make an 8K camera but they have made large format cameras.

It's going to need a bigger sensor in order to do that. If you want something that does good pics get a mirrorless. I have an a73 and its perfect for what I do. Phones are phones camera are cameras

Its crazy how the cameras of phones have evolved over the past years. I remember my old Nokia... I mean i was able stop a bullet but it only had CCTV quality...
The stoping a bullet isnt false for every one questioning watch a video about it
Yeah some n-series can stop motion. My old n-series phone can stop a fan blade and when i zoom the photo i can read the word and the dust. Carl zeiss lense done a great job.
Now that 8K is becoming more common, I'll begin the next generation of complaining to camera companies about what we want. Dear camera companies: all we want is a camera with a 200-MP sensor, uncropped 16K at 240 fps, dual pixel auto focus, IBIS, and a flippy screen for $500. We also want a lens that's 10-800mm f/0.95 with IS for $50.

Instead of putting 8k in for a spec-flex, they should have used that effort to improve other aspects of video performance. Best thing would've been improvements for the ultra wide, which lacks compared to the main lens. :(
obviously, they need reasons to sell it at 1400$. That's why they went for the unneeded 8k.

8k on a phone doesn’t really seem like a benefit to me - 4K is plenty for any project I’d want to film on a phone

well, most cameras record in 4:2:0 which is basically 2x smaller than the resolution they say they record, soooo a 8k UHD phone would actually mean a true 4k UHD 4:4:4 image.
It's the flexibility of cropping in when u edit
@@tjl2836 except that in this case you don't even really get more detail with the 8k than 4k and i would argue that using the extra processing power to improve a good 1080p feed (at a higher bitrate) may very well yield better results. Also is it me or the 8k image seems kind of out of focus all the time?
Also this is coming from someone who has and really likes his S20 soo I'm not bashing on Samsung they make great phones but the spec sheet war which I'd say was brought back by Huawei and other Chinese manufacturers isn't the best way to go in terms of results. Bigger sensors are a very good news though (said nokia 5 years ago)

U forget a few reason to use a 108mp camera: landscape and portraits, 2 things where shooting fast isn't that important but having the most detail is!

Me: sure we will need to rent a red so budget will go up

Well you don’t *NEED* a red unless you are shooting a film or something like that, you can just use the lower end 8K cameras.

I feel like the image still has that artificial phone camera look that is less than desirable to me. Definitely expected the 8K to look much better but the difference is pretty minor!
S20 ultra is amazing. I love how Samsung keep on pushing the limits.

The reason why I bought the 13 inch MacBook Pro over the 15/16 inch is because of the huge price gap. It is nearly twice the price. I will upgrade my current model to the 14 inch MacBook Pro this summer.

You have to use a third-party app and get an app Editor to change the MBS I set it around 800 or uncompressed which she just set to auto when opening the source code of the app turn off the turn off noise reduction and edges then remove the noise in After Effects using a high-end plugin

The camera features of the galaxy s20 ultra are cool to have but not must haves. I mean if you have 1400$ flowing out of your pocket, you may get it but most people are better off with a cheaper phone that offers almost the same user experience and getting an entry level DSLR or mirrorless camera ,than throwing all their money on an expensive phone. Getting a cheaper phone and DSLR will definitely give you a better looking and lighter phone with almost the same specs and you will be able to get better photos too....

I don't like the 8K. It got the "oily" feel to it. Also, considering the file size and playback equipment, I better go 1080p, max 4K.
Honestly, I never found a phone have a image quality that meet my expectation as they always over processed. S20 pro gives RAW files and I think that a good move.
Older Samsung's didn't have a raw function ?

My s10e can also take photos in raw, and videos in FLAT, and it's not a big chunky peace of glass. I really can't understand why would every manufacturer focus only the 6"+ sizes, there are people with small hands and pockets, I mean physically small, 5.5 inch is a great size, for an average user.

The reason why the video and the photos in 108 megapixel mode look the way they do is because of compression the best way to go around this is use a third party app and use the apps raw mode it won't be compressed Raw which is what Samsung does
Incredibly interesting. I'm waiting for the day that I can put up my heavy DSLR and shoot for clients on a phone.
On that day probably there will be hundreds of amatörizmus who would do that job in a fraction of the price you charge. Making better cameras in the phones, makes harder to survive as a video editor/grapher/maker

Currently sitting watching this on an iPhone 11 Pro, its battery is good, there has been no camera issues, build quality issues, overheating issues, throttling issues....I’ve come from a Samsung Galaxy S8 to a Huawei Mate 20 Pro, now the iPhone which has done everything I’ve asked of it, total iPhone convert now!

The 8k looks alright. The phone was over exposing the image a lot, and when you cropped in there was no obvious quality loss, it still looked high resolution, just oddly soft.

S7 had RAW option in default app and quality of RAW files is very much the same as s20 main camera. It's the post-processing software that makes images nowadays look better.
I wouldn't be surprised if some Huawei/Xiaomi/..., had RAW shooting by default way before S7.

4K is for video editing a 1080P sequence. You can have artificial smooth camera movements etc inside the shot.
oFriskyPanda yes it does make a difference but not a huge difference, 1080p is fine for many people, you seem like an apple fanboy/fangirl but I’m not going to say that you are because I don’t know. You on the other hand would do that type of thing.
Alex Noble That’s the best use case for me and most other people who shoot and edit. Shoot 4K and downscale to 1080. Shoot 8K and downscale to 4K. That way you have more flexibility in post production, it to mention the quality increase you get from downscaling.
@oFriskyPanda they don't make sense when only one phone can play 4k, that's Sony Xperia 1, none of the other phones have 4k display lol. Stick to full HD that's it..

Let's be honest, filming 8k on a phone is not useful. 4k is enough for almost anyone who is just using a phone. The main reason why 8k is even on the phone is that it looks better than other companies 4k because people think that a big number means its better. Little side note here, just because your phone has a 100mp camera, it doesn't mean it will be better. It really depends on the image processing which is why lots of people have hailed apple ass the best for years even tho they only have a 12mp, 4k main shooter. Another side note, apple phones are starting to look outdated because of their lack of fingerprint sensor, large notch and massive bezels by today's standards, i personally think the old design being reused on the new iPhone SE is way better looking even tho its not for all the fancy large screen stuff

Can you test the OnePlus 8 Pro? This year they made MASSIVE improvement in the camera department and is comparable to the iPhone 11 Pro. Thank you.
Why the megapixel madness.? Something like a great 16MP sensor of the same size is better. It's just a lot of unnecessary processing when shooting 4K video on a 108MP sensor. If the sensor is only about 16MP, that processing power used for converting 108MP to 4K resolution can be used for improving dynamic range and other qualities of the video. No wonder iphone still takes better video. Spec sheet is not what matters. Great 4K video beats 8K video with limitations.

Even camera nowadays will heat up quickly even shooting in 4K , this does surprise me that Samsung smartphone are actually taking 8K with hardly noticable heat issues

Being able to shoot RAW and manual camera options? Neat, Samsung is slowly catching up to LG phone from 4 years ago. Put in the headphone jack backed up with actual audio HW and maybe few microphones for live music recording and it may be almost as good as my V30.

You can shoot in 8k in pro mode, it has manual focus mode, and all the others settings. It looks absolutely incredible, cinematic. Although i love the hdr10+ more, but that is only on 4k 30 fps. Enough for shooting cool things. The new iphone shoots in 12 bit video, that's incredible. Samsung only shoots in 10 bit hdr10+ for the moment. 🤓
Like your speed. I saw the 8K footage in real life but I don't think it's any better than normal (like iPhone11) 4K. Let's wait for the EOS R5, a comparison with the phone will be lots of fun.
