Tbh they do have incentive to do it. All of the fonts that are used in these eye-catching designs can often only be bought from them, so in the end they make money from the video
@@lynlyn1418 just because they have an incentive doesn't mean it's not really useful knowledge, you can apply the knowledge to typefaces you find on Google Fonts etc and the video doesn't push the purchase of their typefaces. The examples given were just examples, used to demonstrate certain points but as the video points out, there are 1000s of font variations depending on your use. It's not like a lot of sales driven content that's like HERE'S THE THINGS YOU MUST USE IF YOU DON'T WANNA LOOK 2012.
As someone just starting out with graphic design, this is the best introductory tutorial I've come across so far. I'd never really given much thought about the importance of typeface and the structure of fonts when it comes to choosing the correct one for a particular purpose. One thing I've learned is if you don't notice the font style, then whoever selected it has done a good job. I don't mean it shouldn't be eye-catching, or draw attention to itself, it should just fit. If it doesn't, then there needs to be a good reason why that's the case. I've never really understood why I find certain typefaces pleasing and attractive, or noticed the subtle differences between them. Now I feel a bit more confident I can make better selection choices because I at least know there are a few certain conditions and characteristics I need to consider at a practical level. Thank you so much for this, it's helped me a lot.
I'd have never guessed that a single video would teach me so much about a field I'm almost a complete newbie to. It's even better given that this is the first video I checked out on the topic. I saved so much time! I'm extremely grateful. Thank you so much.

Hint I learned long long back from a pre-computer typesetter (that did dry transfer lettering, like Letraset). When kerning a header, put the text up-side down. It releases your brain from interpreting the letters and you see more easily where you need kerning. To illustrate this, take out some book from your shelf with titles on their backs and turn them so the text is upside down. You will find that some have very bad kerning that you would not have spotted if having them in normal orientation :)
This free course is perfect for me. It is really straightforward and the lesson itself is easy-to-digest. Now I have a better understanding about typography which will be helpful in my designing career. Thank you so much!
Thanks for providing this course free. I was reading a book to understand typography. However, it was a less intuitive and strenuous process. You made it easy by making this video.
Amazing, thank you. As a non-designer, that was extremely helpful. That little short history of typography was very insightful too. Let me playing around with some of these typefaces and fonts like a pro now 😊
Thank you so much envato Tuts+. I am a new to Graphic Design and I am looking to improve my skills. I got hinted to learn it from the base/ root. I am going to start with theory before moving to practicals. Thank you so much!
Thank you, beautiful lady! You enabled me understand the different between SERIF and SANS SERIF, so I now understand why I gravitate to certain magazines and books. I can but a book or magazine to read because the fonts beckon me! It was so strange to me but I now know WHY 😍 Thank you greatly.
I'm still terrible at typography but you at least gave me the vocabulary to explain what I'm talking about and what I don't understand. This was a truly terrific course. Thanks !
thank you so much for this video! it is so easy to understand. I am looking for a video because of the bad teaching of my professor, and this is the video that I am looking for!
Wow, what an amazing xourse. Typography is brand new to me and I have learned such alot. Your course is informative, practical and i enjoyed the visuals. Many thanks
Thanks for this. Typography isn't my niche when it comes to designing, more like it's my weakness. I've just learned the other info on my experience. Saving for future use.
Yeah I had been mentioned in my story telling book, in second preparatory class, all you are ✅️ talking right now letter character how to make it and special purpose for special character of letter, we had been a book about 'LETTERASET' in this book, more than 200 style type face and fonts.
This video is super awesome, knowledgeable and useful to me. I spent years to study in design school but only fully understand typography today. Thanks!
This was an excellent video. I have learned a lot and will never read a book the same again. I truly appreciate your time and effort. Thank you so much🤗
I think you didn't mention about Ligatures. But overall, it was a ten-out-of-ten for me. Short and concise, easy-to-understand and the most Important of all is that it covers 30% to 40% of the Typography Structures.
What program cam be used to create a font file without the use of a website? Let's say I already have the designs for my fonts, how do I convert them to font files without having to upload them on some website?
Hi! Absolutely, this course is perfect for graphic design! Typography is a fundamental skill that can greatly enhance your design work, helping you create visually appealing and effective layouts. Hope this helps! Cheers!
What's it called if a letter or symbol is offset halfway or by an x-height? ie, say you write a fraction where each the numerator and denominator are potentially cap-height, and there's another number or variable multiplied out front centered after the fraction. Or you have a list of two items, a curly brace encompassing them both so it's twice a cap height, and there's words centered after the brace.
BRO Typeface is actual word not Font.Font is property of Typeface let me clear it with example "ROBOTO" is typeface not font. if we use roboto bold then it is font of Roboto...bcz bold is property we apply to our typeface😅 hope you get it
Typeface is a family of fonts like other people have pointed out here; helvetica is a typeface While font is singular (eg: helvetica bold, calson regular). Think of it as typeface is the "sirname" every family member shares but they do have their own individual names despite being of same family
You are doing a great service to society by releasing such informational content for free. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Wow, thank you!
Tbh they do have incentive to do it. All of the fonts that are used in these eye-catching designs can often only be bought from them, so in the end they make money from the video
But this knowledge is free anyway.

we should not use slab serifs and geometric sans serif for body texts ??
