  • DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) is an international standard for digital radios that has been in use since 2005 and is increasingly popular amongst ham radio operators.
This presentation will be hosted by the Amateur Radio Experimenters Group: www.areg.org.au/
Mark VK5QI will introduce the fundamentals of DMR, Ben VK5BB will take us through what all of the DMR terminology means and how it applies to programming your DMR radio, and Peter VK4NBL will discuss other ways of connecting to DMR when you are out of range of repeaters.

Good intro. Having come back to ham radio after a 20 year gap, it’s certainly changed a lot! However I can’t help thinking DMR is basically making ham become a crap version of the internet. If I can ever get my head around it, it’s very complicated, then maybe. I’ll try it, But for me the joy is a simple radio and a microphone. I have whatsapp and Facebook for the rest and that has way more bandwidth… this level of complexity will def put a lot of people off. But thanks for the video, it’s helped to demystify it a bit. 👍

This is great because I know nothing about dmr and it was an enigma. People don't care to explain things to get noobs started in dmr code plugging.

As a ham for over 50 years, I'm always fascinated by the evolution of the hobby. Found this very helpful.
