It always amazes me with album titles that do a dis-service to the muso who is playing the principle instrument. In this case a disregard for the great pianist Tony Lee.
A supremely gifted drummer ruined by decades of heroin abuse, but the height of his powers Phil Seaman was the greatest jazz drummer to emerge from the UK. Charlie Watts, Ginger Baker, and Mitch Mitchell would check him out whenever he performed. This track shows Phil at his most sublime. Sheer effortless class.
Phil was from my home town of Burton upon Trent, sadly I never heard him live but marvel at how good he was listening to his recordings. Easily the best drummer ever in my opinion.
Met Phil in Howarths Music in Camden Passage he was cutting what would have been a double album 'Phil talks and plays c.1972 sadly he left this life too early .
This would be an ideal record for a would-be striptease dancer to practice to. It is the strippers anthem after all - that and Harlem Nocturne. Imagine all the bumps and grinds Phil's drumming would inspire
Phil was so damned good...Been listening to his playing for several years. I've listended to Side A of the Phil Seamen Story (graciously downloaded on You Tube for who any who are interested- wish I could hear side B LOL!). When he plays, some of his rolls on the tom tom and the bass drum are incredible- they sound like controlled cannons.
"The only drummer, that could bring tears to my eyes smashing the drums!!" Ginger Baker about Phil. R.i.P. Both.
Whoa did he say that??? I totally feel that. It’s usually just the timing of a single snare strike or something. Feels so good it hurts!!
@@woofytwoshoes7711 Watch the documentary Beware of Mr. Baker
Not forgetting pianist Tony Lees fine playing who was under rated. RIP. Tony.
Eddie Gomez is a great player as well.
Not underrated, it was just that Bull's Head scene - they were all geniuses! Remember Pat Smythe?

I bought this album from the second had section downstairs in Dobells in Charing Cross Road.
woooow, Phil’s drumming was so unique, creative and musical.
One of the best drummers of all time.
In my opinion, he's the best

Best drummer in the world. We fell into each other in Wardour street.
@@upthecanalwithoutapaddleto7322 agreed he is my favorite drummer too.

Y'all here for Ginger's mate! I'm here for the maestro, Tony Lee.
Phil was better than Ginger...

I hate making comparisons tbh, because it’s all our individual art and creativity. With that said though I think Ginger would agree.
To me, Phil is the best drummer I've ever heard.
Yes, he was great, wasn't he? A real character too LOL! Loved his German Shepherd dog so much he used to bring him to gigs
Ginger was his equal , two of the greatest drummers ever .
Damn phil seamen looks messed up
like a man with a plan
Never mind what he looks like, just listen to that drumming!!
He looks much like Ginger Baker
@@freagle71 Exactly!
