    Bad form by the interviewer grabbing him by the flight suit.

      Yeah that was a little silly. He could have asked to show the patch not grab him and pull his arm like a child.

    Interesting that he said the blk50 is the only one capable of doing SEAD. The 40/42 is just as capable of doing SEAD since CCIP updates I believe.

    • @Planehazza
      @Planehazza 6 лет назад +2

      I should add that the 40/42 can carry the HTS and I believe the CCIP was an attempt to standardise the 40/42 and 50/52 in terms of mission role etc. I think this is the reason why CG/CJ is no more, and the jet is more commonly referred to as the CM.

    Considering the newest airframes came off the assembly line in the 90s, the USAF should consider upgrading to the Block 70 for brand new zero hour airframes and the newest capabilities. It’s been awhile since the USAF flew F-16s with a new car smell.

    I live right next to Langley AFB and watched the Raptors every day. In May I went to the Airpower over Hampton Roads at Langley AFB and spent an hour talking with the Weasel Pilots. Since a classmate from High School was one of the last of the F-4 Weasels in Iceland.

    F-16 Jack of all trades, ... master of none? Ask any fighter pilot anywhere: the F-16 is still a master in dogfighting. A first class turn rate fighter. By no means invincible, as there are other fighter aircraft out there that match it one way or the other (the Hornet and Rhino have superior nose authority, but lack the thrust:weight ratio), but in the right hands still one of the best. I've seen Vipers do DACT at medium altitude regularly just outside my hometown against F-15C/D's (spectacular to watch with binocs) and I must say that I had the impression the Vipers had the upper hand each and every time. A friend of mine, a retired RNLAF Viper jock and col RNLAF ret. confirmed that.
    And since the integration of AIM-9X Sidewinder that can do HOBS, the JHMCS helmet mounted sight even better than it has ever been, plus - with the integration of more advanced versions of the AIM-120 AMRAAM not a slouch in BVR either. With its latest incarnation, the block 70 or -Viper upgrade (AESA radar, impoved ECM, conformal fuel tanks, etc.) and maybe in the future IRST, the days of the Viper are far from over.
    And if you would compare the operating costs of a Viper to that of more powerful or advanced fighters, one could say it's a master in efficiency too.
    Besides that... such a stunningly beautiful design, reminiscent of a shark.

      He was talking about fighter pilots being a jack of all trades.. not the plane

      Is still better at a master on one

      @@jimlthor OK, but even then...
      Viper pilots are among the most versatile in the world since the 1990ies. That was when they introduced swing role; meaning a retasking in mid air from air-air to air to ground or vice versa, with the idea: fight your way in, do the ATO (air-ground) and fight your way out. Before that the dominant doctrine was multi-role: equip a fighter for a specific tasking with mostly air-air or air-ground (with the latter having only WVRAAMs for self defence). The introduction of precision guided munitions + targetting pods and BVRAAM for the Viper enabled swing role and it has been adopted by many other aircrews of multirole fighters ever since.
      Viper pilots have to be proficient in strike, battlefield air interdiction [BAI] and CAS, AFAC, offensive counter air [OCA], recce, NTISR and even DEAD [targets of opportunity or necessity] alongside air-air. And in all domains the Viper and the pilots have proven to be up to the task, only second to more modern or specialized fighters (for example: in SEAD the F-16J is inferior to the EA-18G and in BVR only slightly inferior to the F-15C/D and of course much more inferior to the F-22).

    • @Anderson_Hwang
      @Anderson_Hwang Год назад +1

      @@Pincer88 He means that pilots are tasked various missions and cannot focus on one. A typical USAF pilot gets 160 flying hours a year, and a viper pilot must divide the 160 hours into BVR, dogfighting, CAS, interdiction, SEAD whereas an eagle (C model) pilot is only doing BVR and dogfighting in his 160 hours.

    • @mississippirebel1409

      I will try and get back to you on that, my older brother is a F-15E pilot. I spent 10 years in the army, so my knowledge is limited lol. But I would imagine that the US air force is more than capable of dealing with them. But you also have to remember that there aren't that many S-400 systems out there and there are ZERO S-500 systems. More than likely the air force will use it's F-35 to target the S-400's and just drop bombs on them or call in a strike from other platforms.

    • @slpkntmggt06
      @slpkntmggt06 6 лет назад

      I would say yes, they can. I can't back that up with evidence or citations, because the true capabilities are highly classified, but considering that we only have a few Weasel squadrons around the world, and they all still fly the F-16, I would say that it is extremely likely that they can engage those systems effectively.
