I've always wondered where Randy's music career would have taken him had he not so tragically left us so suddenly. It's sad to watch these old clips knowing that his fate is already sealed, and that these are all actually his final days on earth. The world lost a beautiful young man back in '82 yet his legacy forever lives on and his influence will never die. R.I.P Mr. Rhoads. You were a true gentlemen and still one of the greatest guitar players of all time.
I'm not sure he would've played on Bark at the Moon, since he had informed Ozzy of his intent to leave. He wasn't really a fan of metal and wanted to expand his talent and vision of what he could do with the guitar. I agree, we can only imagine the greatness he would've achieved. He really seems like he was a gentle, humble, approachable soul. I wish they would've screened their pilot with a little more scrutiny
@@mrdraper4633 He had agreed to do the live album that would instead become Speak of the Devil and then one more album and one more tour. So, he would have likely played on Bark at the Moon, if it was still called that had he lived.
At that time there were so many fine guitar player are there but my hero Randy Rhodes was the best guitarist of all time, even though he's no more but his legacy lives on forever ❤❤❤
No question RR shone brightly - no wonder the O.O. organization wanted to hire him. And I was 5 when this was recorded so I technically lived during the 70s, but man, would loved to experience this gig.
This video would be Great !! If all of the audio on the songs were edited out except for Randy's Guitar work his riffs and solos are the only thing here his main solo starts at 38:00
To be honest, I'm pretty sure they're bootlegs, but there are 2 CDs that exist with this show (the second one) and the first show that vary slightly with songs!
Yea it sure is or Ozzy and Sharon wouldn’t have made millions. If it wasn’t for Randy and dasley (I think that’s how u spell it) Ozzy would probably be forgotten and him and Sharon wouldn’t have made those millions.
I will have to add that I’m glad we got to see Randy in all his glory. He’s an amazing guitarist. Love him. We have the music . Randy’s so cool and humble at the same time.❤❤❤
Randy took a lot from Mick Ronson. And I think I see some Scott Gorham in there too. But this was the real Randy here, I believe. He didn't like playing metal, which this isn't.
Randy didn't like playing heavy metal, but he also felt restricted when it came to songwriting with Kevin DuBrow. Had he made his solo album, we could have heard so much!
Working with Ozzy, Bob and Lee Randy really had to step up his game. What he accomplished was way beyond anything he would have done with quiet riot. They were kind of a joke. Unfortunately it cost him his life.
Awesome! Thanks for the video. Really great show. Fantastic band! They would have been even better with Black Sabbath's old singer. 🤪 Seriously, though, this is really great. Thanks.
I actual agree I do think Eddie was better in their club days but by the time Blizzard and Diary came out Randy had caught up with Eddie Van Ego and he knew it. For Eddie to say Randy learned everything from him is utter bullshit! Not only was Randy heavier getting rid of his pop roots but he was a better composer than Ego man.
@@wendelllatimer4146 100% Randy had "caught up", though was going in his own direction. I love both EVH and Randy to death, but Ed never really grew much beyond VHii except for excesses, whereas Randy was always developing, both as a composer and player. Besides, we never saw EVH really step out of VH "the band's" confines (Beat It solo could have fit into any VH song). Going from QR to Ozzy showed Randy had a lot up his sleeve.
@@coalfacechris1336 I often wonder if going to England in 1979 if bands like Priest and Maiden and the whole NWOBHM scene didn't have an influence to some degree on Rhoads? He knew hooking up with Ozzy his pop tune riffs weren't going to make it so he had to get heavier. Also I know Blackmore and Schenker were an influence along with Mick Ronson,Leslie West but I had read he also liked Be Bop Deluxe's Bill Nelson and when I listened to" Sleep that burns" I can see why!
@@wendelllatimer4146 Certainly feasible, as interestingly BOO and DOAM don't sound much like Black Sabbath either. Though I think something that gets overlooked is the musicians around them, and it's a team game. Going from a band like QR who were still trying to "make it" and where we might expect Randy was doing a lot of the heavy lifting musically, to an established and experienced team around Ozzy (Bob and Lee, was Don Airey involved too?) The different situation possibly freed Randy up and bought him out of his shell, so to speak. A lot of RR's ideas from QR were re-purposed into Ozzy's stuff as he had the musical chops to recontextualize them. Possibly one of the few things he and EVH had in common - ideas Eddie had hanging around from the club days were still getting used right up until ADKOT. But he still needed DLR/Sam, Mike and Alex to get it done.
@@coalfacechris1336 Great points all. From what I know Don Airey was brought in a little later but before Rhoads was hired Ozzy already had Daisey and he had just been let go from Rainbow. Rhoades did have his own signature style of neoclassical different from from Blackmore and Schenker. What pissed me off was when this nut said EVH was light years ahead of Rhoads and that just isn't true. Randy was a better composer in a lot of ways. I do think he would of eventually morphed into an Eric Johnson/Alan Holdsworth type player and moved away from metal had he lived.
To answer the questions: Randy family is still in ownership of his polka dot V, it's in undisclosed storage. Randy left quiet riot because Dana strum had told him about ozzy, and just to audition. He was hesitant about leave, but his mother told him this was his chance! Eddie went to a few quiet riot shows, so it is possible! Randy never went to any of van halen shows however
@Frederick Revalee It's true, Randy may have gone in secret to see his rival play. I've always heard that Randy never went to any VH shows because that's what his friends and family have said
Though Randy is clearly a supreme talent, i can def see why Van Halen got signed to a record deal and QR did not....these are just simply awful songs. Amatuerish, poorly written...VH just had better songs. Also, though the young girls loved them, the whole thing with the "outfits" is just a awful look. Kevin went on to become a pretty decent rock singer, but these are not his type of songs to sing....he was awful. Whoever their management was should be shot....thank God Ozzy and Randy hooked up a few months after this.....
Quiet Riot’s weakness was Kevin DuBrow. He was ugly, an egomaniac and his annoying voice made it difficult to write songs for. Rhoads flourished under Ozzy which spoke volumes about DuBrow and the lack of record deal. Only reason QR succeeded was due to their singing covers from Slade and gaining recognition from the passing of Randy Rhoads.
A guitarist does not a good band make, this band was horrible. Not even Randy could save them, Randy had The misfortune of playing with two horrible singers.

*RHOADS not RHODES. Randy and his legacy already got disrespected in this way when they presented his mother with a plaque spelled Rhodes.

Great find man! I luv Randy and quiet riot especially in the early days like here 29:13 he had 2 of those les Paul’s???????
I assume he used one as his main, and the other one was just as a backup
Absolutely Great 😄

Did they record any footage of the reunion show when Randy came back from ozzy on his break? That would be awesome! I would think someone did...
Not to my knowledge! There's a lot of pictures, but It would be killer if there was a video!
Drew forsythe drums
wasnt this the show he debuts the Flying V?
Yes! I believe so
Randy actually debuted POlka Dot V at some joint in Long Beach, where he wore the bright blue outfit. There are few photos from this show...
What’s up with that les Paul on the right? Is that like a replica or?
It was his back up incase he broke a string while playing
