@@MrTriPie Little issue, there isn't any anticollision system, do you know a good addon that might have that functionnality ? A scatterer that have the option of preventing objects to be place in/bump/intersect one another
For cycles , give a material to the objet replicator and the alpha for 0 . You don't need to erase the duplicator and don't need "make duplicate real" and you gonna keep the edit mode for the object replicator
That's pretty sick. Can't believe I haven't come across this yet. I've seen similar with vertex groups, but this is definitely faster and more control probably (with all the options)
Nope didn't have it after all. I have a large cube and the tiny ones and they are bound to one another. I never see the tiny triangles ethier. So I don't know. Perhaps mine is bugged.
Yeah, the options are kinda limited, you can also use a particle system (set to hair, advanced settings, with the render object set to your mesh) but its not as quick to set up
This is very useful for beginners, but I highly recommend if you are starting out learn to use hair particles instead. This highly delayed my learning curves when I started out.
Hey everyone, I have a little problem, while using this method I get a grass bundle in origin of my scene which controls alll the scattered grasses if I move it all other move also. How should I remove it from the centre?
So I'm stuck at the very beginning step. F3 does not bring up search for me. Is there a manual way to get to search? I've never used this feature before so I don't know where to go to find this.
I'm making some trees. I'm having a problem though . . . I have it how I want it to look in the viewport but when I render, it makes the trees all small and spread out. Changing the settings of the scatter doesn't change anything in the viewport or the render either. Thanks!
I think the add-on is broken now. They're redoing the search, one of the changes was that the search now shows which menu the operator can be found under, but now it requires what you're searching for to have a menu option (which I don't think scatter objects has). For development purposes where you may not have a menu button yet, if you enable developer extras in the preferences, the old operator search will show up under the edit menu next to the new search, but it doesn't seem to show up there for me either
I'm making grass blades from plane, then scatter... and it distorts the clattered objects ... it doesn't look like grass anymore... It works with the default cube, fine, however... extruding grass blade plane to give it thickness also did not work. Would you know what's the matter ?
I'm not sure in what way it's distorting, is it maybe just that the rotation/scale wasn't applied (Ctrl A in object mode with it selected) and it's causing some weirdness, since that happens with some tools and midifiers
It seems my keypad is working at the moment but what I said about the camera select is strange , maybe you know , the dropdown menu says 0 is camera but it certainly dont work and the Im reading about the new camera manager but its not in the latest downloads yet so if 0 is not working then I have no camera at all .Do we have to wait for them to bring it out and have no camera , maybe Im missing something this is the latest download and all the listed changes may be there but theres no mention of a camera manager in the changes so this camera manager is probably not out yet so I suppose I have to find my old version to work with . If you know anything let me know
In the scene settings (panel in bottom right) there is a setting for the camera, is your camera selected there? You could also try the pie menu that shoes up when pressing ~ (top right of most keyboards) which is a pie menu for views (not 100% sure if it does camera though)
Ive gone back to 2.8 as there is some confusion about when the new camera manager is coming out but there may something in keypad which I dont know about
It's still working for me. Is scatter objects not showing up in the add-ons list? Is your search set to something other than F3? If you can't get it to work the other way to scatter objects is with a particle system, but it isn't as easy. Add a particle system, switch to hair, change the render > render as to object/collection and choose your object/collection. Set the scale/randomness. Enable advanced settings and play with rotation settings. Use a vertex group for where instances can be placed and plug it into the particle system density vertex group. Not as quick set up, but it's another option for certain situations, and if you can't get scatter objects to work. There might be another add-on you can get online for it.
thanks I think thats it f3 is not setup as search I only just installed this and enabled scatter so what is my search key or how do I reset it I looked in prefs and cant find anything ... will try ptc hair thanks
In preferences go under Keymap, if it is space bar (it used to be in an older version, a lot of people prefer it) it will be shown at the top under spacebar option (which now is normally play animation). The other thing you can do is use the Keymap preferences search to search for search which will show you the current key to search. (4 searches in 1 sentence!)
Do you have a FN key or something on the bottom of your keyboard? A lot of laptops have controls for things like volume and screen brightness in their function keys, so you might have to hold an FN key for the F keys to work
@@MrTriPie hey! you totally don't have to respond, but was wondering if you have any advice for making the grass or objects point straight up/ or have zero rotation... I turned the slider all the way down & I still have objects sitting completely horizontal-- it's very unpleasant haha.. again this is a personal problem but any tips would go a long way. Thanks, MrTriPie!
Is that you have something like a landscape with slopes and want to make sure things point straight up even on the slope? In thet case I believe you can do it with the particle system method, add a particle system to the mesh, set it to hair, set the display/render/whatever it's called from path to object and use a vertex group to decide where to put meshes, there should be an orientation or rotation setting to make it point up
Great tutorial, straight to the point with good explanation of how instancing works in the background. Thanks much!
Thank you. Using the hair particle system to scatter vegetation was really crunching my viewport display and slowing things down.
Glad it helped!
Came here in order to find how you can freeze and apply the scattered instances. I was not disappointed. Thank you very much! Subbed fosho!
Thanks! :)
That is just AWESOME !! Thanks a lot !! Didn't suspect Blender had such an amazing feature, you've just won a subscriber sir ;)
Thank you!

Omg, thank you so much for this. I wondered if Blender had something like this and now i know, thanks to you.
How to draw perfect circle around the object that i want to scatter?
For cycles , give a material to the objet replicator and the alpha for 0 . You don't need to erase the duplicator and don't need "make duplicate real" and you gonna keep the edit mode for the object replicator
And here i was manually placing trees on a hill top for a forest scene. Thank you!
super cool feature, thanks for sharing
Thank you. Well done tutorial...quick and to the point! I need this for a beaver dam.
That's pretty sick. Can't believe I haven't come across this yet. I've seen similar with vertex groups, but this is definitely faster and more control probably (with all the options)
Thanks! It's definitely a nice alternative to particles, not sure which one is easier for what situations though yet
thanks man
Glad its helping to get through this, stay healthy!
Thank you. Great Tutorial!
the rotation is totally fucked with me, i say 0 rotation and yet it seems to be randomized between 0 and 90 degrees on any direction
Ha Ha Ha...sweet
Outstanding. Thanks 👑
thank you so much
nice :)
Thanks so much! This was really helpful with something I've been trying to find how to do for a while!
awesome job, this was very helpful thanks! Even worked in latest blender - just find the scatter settings in bottom panel
Great one! Thanks
Thank you!
I didn't know about such add-on. It's so easy to use. Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome! Glad it helped

Can these scatter objects be converted into a mesh? When I try, they turn into tiny flat triangles and don't retain their former shape.
When i press f3, it doesnt bring up the blender menu, just my whole windows desktop menu
Nice! Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the explanation.... nice one..
Man I wish they had a align to normals option I can't get a good random orientation with the scatter across a uneven surface.
Yeah, the options are kinda limited, you can also use a particle system (set to hair, advanced settings, with the render object set to your mesh) but its not as quick to set up
@@MrTriPie Yea, I am hoping for a paint foliage option some time in the future.
nice nothing improved in the last 5 years

That's great! Has it always been there, or is it new to 2.8?
I believe it's a replacement for an older add-on called "Grease Scatter Objects".
Hey everyone,

Object, then it's all the way at the bottom
Thank you
Really good, thanks :-)
Thank you, glad you liked the video!
I don’t understand. I have it installed but now of these things come up for me after that
I don’t even understand how that tab on the top right got there because when I install it that does not happen
okay thanks. I jumped the gun but you answered in the video. A very powerful tool indeed.
Super helpful, thanks
HELL man you just solved 2 puzzles of this addon. THANK YOU LOADS.
Cheers

Glad it helped! :)
I followed ur steps but it will hang is there any issue with my computer, scattering of object will require more powerful computer

How do i get everything to point straight up? Great video, thank you.
The addon is installed and enabled, but when I go through the steps like you demonstrated, I get no results when I search for the addon through F3
also me
I think the add-on is broken now. Helpful, Thanks!
The rotation is all screwed up tho.
Awesome! Thanks!
Does this work on landscapes, too? Or just plane surfaces?
Yeah, a landscape in Blender is just a plane with some displacement. Although I think this addon may currently be broken
Thank you so much!

Okay I'm just slow. I swear I got it that time. Make instances real, which you stated in the video as well.😮
As this doesnt work anymore in 2.81 is there anyway scatter or instances can work so far Im getting no luck f3 is no go and no draw tool
