This is NOT intentional it's due to technique and her approach. She uses glottal attacks often and doesn't sing always on the breath.
You probably don't need any suggestions but if you ever need one, can I suggest that you throw it back to Heatwave's live version of Always and Forever? They were crooning and swooning on that! :)
