- I went to Hong Kong to try out the famous BBQ suckling pig and beer and wine drunken hotpot. The suckling pig was cooked 2 ways and was by far some of the best I've ever had. The drunken hotpot was on top of a skyscraper and the theatrics, as well as the food, were excellent.

Mikey is the type to show up to a party, eat all the munchies, never drink and leave when everyone is too tore up to realise he ate all the food until half a year later when he posts an "all you can eat: party edition" video
My breath caught when I saw the prices on the hot pot menu and then I realized it was hong kong dollars not US dollars

A little better when you realize the ultimate hot pot was around $50 U.S.
i just got to that part and had to pause to pick my mouth up off the floor..... then come see if anyone else got a heart palpitation seeing the price of mike eating hotpot on a night out lol
I had to look up the conversion. Thought that pot was more than my first 3 cars...
Though hongkong is a harbor city, it is extremely specialized in trading and finances, therefore it is notorious for its high housing and food prices.
I nearly choked on my tea when Mikey talked about the “meat curtains”... ☺️
And after explaining how you get long chopsticks to cook with and short ones to eat with, he proceeds to flagrantly abandon his poor short chopsticks in his eagerness...

I like to believe that Mikey only ever eats while he's recording and he just starves himself the rest of the time hence his huge appetite
Fatmandying 55 believing is good. Cause starving for sure does not increase the amount of food someone can eat.
There's some truth to that, in the sense that he records almost every meal he eats abroad. But he doesn't post all of them. Some, he'll feature on the Mikey Chen channel. But the ordinary lackluster meals usually just get a mention in passing. He can eat so much in one sitting because his stomach is trained to do so, and he burns it all off through intense exercise.
Starving never increases your appetite .....try it yourself .... you'll still eat the regular amount of food you always do.

The thing about Hong Kong.. I feel like the overall look of the streets in Hong Kong have stayed relatively similar over the past 20 years. I was there studying abroad and it looks so much the same in many ways. Incredible

As a local from Hong kong, I can tell you that the price is definitely reasonably priced. What mikey ordered from the hot pot can definitely feed 10+ people, and the best thing is, you don't need to tip your waiters!
When the camera fogged over because of the steam it was like a dream sequence... teasing me that this is only how I'll ever get to have these foods- in a dream. lol.

I love the explanation of the different use for the longer chopsticks (used for cooking) and the shorter chopsticks (used for eating) but why were you then using the longer ones to eat? Did I miss something?

Lol to explain, he means contaminating the cooked food after touching raw ingredients. Generally when eating hotpot, people are not very strict with keeping their saliva to themselves unless eating with colleagues or new friends. Saliva contamination isn’t really a concern when eating hotpot (actually that was pre-covid). Sigh, those were such simpler times 🙃

Mikey at 11.25 whats really cool about this place is they give you 2 sets of chop sticks to cut down on contamination. Then sticks his spoon in everything to try all the broths :P
I didn't know Hotpot was for multiple people and was waiting for my class to start so I figure I'll grab dinner and go. I walk in and was greeted asked if I knew how it worked and not wanting to sound ignorant I said yes and they led me to my table. I ordered hot tea (which was enough for 4-5 people) and I ordered alacart items on the tablet. It seemed a bit pricey but I figured it was normal. They brought my order out and it easily would have fed 4 adults. Easily. I only had an hour so I ate what I could and took the rest home (2 bags of leftovers) my friend and I ate them for 4 days. Lol. I learned a lot that day not to worry about not knowing how it works and ask for help.
