Richard; I have watched and enjoyed immensely your video "Pastured poultry special edition". In my youth, I lived in a suburban area east of Washington, DC and we kept a garden and chickens. Your technique is perfect for butchering and preparation of birds. We always froze our birds and kept them for our family use (we were poor). Our garden produce was canned or frozen; herbs were dried and stored and we maintained a cool basement where we could store onions and root vegs. While I am in my 8th decade of life, and do not intend to restart the family farmlet of the good old days, I did order your book which you said, will be mailed next Monday 22nd of Oct 2018. I still grow my own herbs but plan to try some of your no-dig ideas for a small plot in my back garden. I may even utilize those wee caterpillar domes you use on rows. Insects here in South Louisiana of USA are awful and I hate using pesticides. They kill beneficial as well as harmful bugs. I cannot have feeder geese or chickens here so I have to fight them myself. I enjoy al your videos and since I learned of you a month ago I have subscribed and follow until I see all of your shows. Just listen to a private podcast with Justin Rhodes and Joel Salatin. I live in a home owners association. HOA. They don’t allow chickens but my doctor says I have to have ESA chickens. Emotional support animals. I Got the XL corners cross from McMurry Hatchery. 107. Meat birds , 28 all purpose chicks. I already have 30 pullets. The state just passed a law. We can grow our own food in our front yard. Guess what’s next. 😂 Now my HOA is really going to hate me. At this point in time. I can’t afford to move but that doesn’t mean I can’t feed my family.

Great video! Thanks, you are on the right track. After watching you examine your eggs with a flashlight, seems like a long process. Here is a idea to examine 30 eggs at a time. Route out an area on your exam table and insert a piece of glass. Put a light under the table, probably a led so that you do not create heat . Hope this may help you. I'm here in Florida with 40 acres. Would love to come and see your farm someday.

Richard, I seem to be behind on the size of the broiler chickens age when you're supposed to start introducing them to pastures. The other question, how much can it cost for anyone to do whole course for the chicken. I'm a Zambian from Africa.

QUES: I was wondering if you, or one of your viewers could guide me thru the process of contacting a neighborhood landowner and asking if they’d be willing to “lease” some of their unused open farm land for “meat birds”. I don’t have enough property at my house, but about 1/2 mile down the road is plenty of open land. (Use to be used as a small scale horse farm), but plenty of open pastured land. I’m in the process of working on a business plan, but wonder what the rate in the Northeast U.S. might be that a landowner might charge....I know there are probably plenty of variables involved, but I simply have now idea at this point what might be TOO MUCH of an asking price for leased land. Thank You Kindly, to any individual that would like to guide me thru this process.

Karen: You can ask around at local farms to find out what they're going Agricultural land rent ( per acre) rate is . You can try to strike up a deal, sometimes someone has a small parcel that modern equipment can't really use and they're willing to even let someone use it for free. Be aware of needing any liability insurance for either party. Also you may need to be extra careful with having a double protection of barrier between your birds and the road / getting out, since you don't live right there they'll get into more trouble before you find out they're loose ! Find out what predators are coming in your area if there's Weazel problems you may need to have even smaller mesh on the floor than he uses /do a different coop/floor, they fit through really small spots. I think he runs his mesh fence sides of his Lanes close enough together that that's the biggest eagle and Hawk deterrent if you have the money for it and it doesn't get in the way of how you move your Coupe you could try to put in really tall T posts throughout and string twine from one to another just to make enough of a covering of lines that they're afraid to swoop in. I've never done it yet myself but I've heard about it working. We do have a strong eagle and Hawk "problem" here in the Midwest , USA. We have knly a few chickens right now, & Our rooster sounds the alarm & they run for cover. They have various things, including plants, around for cover. I avoid putting thinhs like feed & water out in middle of open area, esp. on cloudy days ( they notice the giant wingspan shadow looming, on sunny days) . "Good luck"/God bless !

Just out of curiosity do you vaccinate or medicate your chickens to prevent disease or illness, at he moment mine seem to be getting ill not sure why ?
What are the differences between chicken manure and cow manure ? For the health of the soil i mean. Don't hesitate for other perspectives of comparison between those two !
Difference is this:cow manure is more rich in long fibers of grass, chicken poop I more rich in ammonia and nitrogen. Im sure theres more differencs too.

How many chickens in each of the Joe salatin trailers. You say 2000 euros profit . If that’s for 75 birds that’s 26 euros a bird. Is that how much they fetch?

In his book, Regenerative Agriculture, he feeds the broilers starter and grain. He changes the rations as the broilers grow. Does anyone know what grains he feeds the broilers? Thanks

That’s not what a master class is. Don’t make yourself out to be something you’re not. A master class is given to highly talented and erudite musicians and artists - people who’ve dedicated their lives to a skill which takes a lifetime to master. A shovel and a pile of dirt don’t compare. I get it, you want to seem like you’re teaching amazing things, but labor skills are not comparable to mastering an instrument.
And I would say that you are at the beginner level as far as your silly comments are concerned.
Inference without question is often symptomatic of incompetence. I’m sure you’re a great farmer now that you’ve been given time to master picking weeds and running a hose. How long did it take you to master planting seeds? How long did it take you to learn what to feed them? One try, maybe two?
If you cannot see the difference between the life long endeavor of mastering an instrument compared to learning how to drive a tractor or how far to space tomato plants, you’re probably not real bright.
I’m also quite the farmer and you can see some of my grows on my page. It took a couple seasons to get good at it, but I was successful on my first try. It took me two years just to play the guitar worth a crap and after 27 years I’m usually the best around but I’m still learning and practicing new stuff all the time.

Jason Cowan it’s actually not a master class. Master class is a thing and has a definition. There is no such thing as a master farmer. There is such a thing as a master of any musical instrument - which is what a master class is.

The one thing that disqualified this video as a master class isn’t that it’s not a class for musical students, it’s given to anyone, regardless off skill level, knowledge or talent. Not to mention it’s hardly any type of class at all; it’s a video showing a farm and talking about it.
