My 2nd car was a Alpha Sud.
    I loved Alpha Romeo.
It's such an exhilarating car to drive, the exhaust tone, unique design is unlike any other car.
And it was an absolutely glossy red body, that just shined like no other car, with the same colour. And exquisite white interior. Was lovely to look at, even when owned it in early 90s.
Then I owned the sporty Alpha Romeo GT.
    Another unique beautiful made car❤❤❤

If you visit the VW car museum in Wolfsburg, you will notice that they place the Renault 16 at the centre of the most game-changing cars of all time next to the Ford T since it is the first vehicle that included and often introduced all modern day features: front wheel drive, independant suspension, all four power disk brakes, fully functional hatchback, five speed gearbox, ergonomic seats, power steering, and the list continues. All this produced for the middle class. Indeed Fiat 128 and Peugeot 504 were the epitome of the reliable efficient European cars, we even saw them doing well in the snowy conditions of Canada as well as the torrid weather of Africa.

@@RetroGadgetsLifestyleYT You see, I teach mechanical engineering and indeed I drove amazing vehicles in my life such as the Renault 25 Turbo-D (many times through the wintery Alps), the Alfasud Sprint, the Alfa Romeo 147, the Volvo 850, the Peugeot 205 (such a great little car), the Nissan Maxima V6; and I owned an Audi 80 1.9 TDi and also a BMW 323i 1986.

From the late 1980's the Alfa Romeo 75 2.0TS is tough to beat. Near perfect balance and faster than a E type Jaguar.

Had a bright orange Rally 1 Simca, the ultimate boy-racer in a world of Mini's, Ford Escorts, Opel Kadett and Renault R8, only the NSU 1200 TT was a lot faster !

I had three Renault 16's (1969, 1970 & '72) which were positively ingenious but not nearly as reliable as my Simca 1000's (1965, and two 1968's). I still have my 1968 1000, which only has 65K on it, and is solid as a supreme court decision.

Thank you for sharing your story! Classic cars like the Renault 16 and Simca 1000 have such fascinating histories, and it’s awesome to hear about your personal connection to them.

My Dad had a Simca 1000. Decent car, but the clutch was weak. He was rocking it to get unstuck in snow and he had to have the clutch replaced and he wasn't rocking much at all. I had a 1971 R16 and loved it. Almost 200,000 miles on the engine and it was going strong but the body rusted away after 20 years. I owned two Peugeots, A 504 sedan and a diesel station wagon. Very comfortable and solid feeling. Great drivetrain but lousy rustproofing. For me all of the later Peugeots were poorly made.

We had a number of Taunuses. They should be on the list as they were everywhere (in continental Europe).

I don't think the DS19 is a car that faded into history. It would be like saying the the Ford Model T, Morris Mini Minor and VW Beetle have all been forgotten about.

Peugeot 504 - such an astonishing drive - loved it - but not the self-destruct rusting bodywork that made these beautiful cars such a liability - disintegrating almost as you watched. If they had been rustproof I'd drive one now, let alone 40 years ago. Sigh!
