Except, Raphael is getting both the Crown of Ambition *and*, by giving up the Hammer, the player goes and, through freeing Orpheus, the Gith, one of the most powerful races that could oppose Raphael, is hurled into a titanic civil war where their lich god queen is slated to be eventually destroyed. Raphael gets the Crown *and* incapacitates the pseudo deity of a race that could be wielded against him, while also plunging that race into a civil war that will occupy and weaken it. There isn’t a single downside or effort required for him beyond removing a few tadpoles. What the player gets in exchange for promising Raphael the crown (which is spun to them as a way to keep the crown from Mystra), ie, the gith civil war, is almost more of a gift to Raphael than the crown itself. The dude just sells it as a “Player, this is what you NEED right now,” and so kills two birds with on stone, all while spinning it as a fair trade when he’s giving up a hammer for a titanically powerful artifact and a race and (pseudo) god of his enemies being shattered. Alastor is doing *none* of that. He’s not engaging in some fancy layered tactic to make Charlie think that she’s getting the best deal of all. “I give you this, and you give me a favor, no questions, down the road.” That’s the most plain, uncreative devil deal of all time, and there’s no cleverness to it. It reeks of desperation and the only way he got a deal made was that Charlie naively trusts him enough, and he manipulates on her fear for the hotel.
@@oceanberserker I mean, he does have veves surrounding him in the pilot after he said "My dear. If I had wanted to hurt anyone here. I would have done so already."
Here's my theory. The deal specified no soul taking, and no direct harm to anyone involved while the contract is active I assume. This is where I THINK he's planning on using the contract with Charlie to remove the binding with whoever he's soul contracted to, since Charlie is the princess of hell she should have more than enough power to do so. He was also talking about wanting freedom, so I assume this is the case. (Or it could just be that somewhat overused villain trope where Alastor just drains all of Charlies power to rule over hell or have her do his bidding or whatever), but I assume that would break the "harming others" rule if he tries to kill anyone with the powers. So I'm pointing towards the first theory.
I mean let's assume that "hurtings others" doesn't apply to Charlie here. she is awfully concerned with everyone above herself, perhaps she didn't include herself as a member of that party. And even then, draining her powers, rather than actually wounding her or debilitating her in any way other than the taking of something that's hers, does that even count as "hurting others?" again, this is charlie viewing herself like that. And the deal technically wouldn't even extend to the rest of hell. The deal would be that there would be nothing he could ask of her to hurt others with - that's restrained to the deal ITSELF. the favour, ITSELF. SHE cannot hurt others on his behalf. But he COULD take what's hers, and make use of it just as well for that much.
@@mc-inversal7069 You're saying it as if I said draining her powers or harming her does count, she said OTHERS. Not herself, which means harming her shouldn't be out of the picture but what would be the purpose of that? Blackmail? I meant that IF he theoretically took her powers from her. Since that was apart of the deal, would he even be able to use it TO harm others is the question I'm trying to figure out myself.
@@mileenaliciouss I'm gonna assume no. Cause there's almost no way that allastor DOESN'T make use of any of the supposed liberties exercised through this deal, that wouldn't hurt someone in some sort of way. My question to that, being what is defined as "indirect," and how will we basically, tehcnically not get an exact answer but just be shown and like roll with that?
It'll probably be both, considering that Alastor's verse in the final song at the end of Episode 8 talks about him being the one "pulling all the strings" once he's free of his deal. He'll use Charlie's power to get free and do whatever he's got planned afterwards for his power grab.
@@mc-inversal7069 Yeah, he'd probably come up with something to bypass that rule if he needed to. It honestly depends on what the definition of harming is in the context of the deal, but it was unspecified. We'll just have to wait and see lmao
There's a theory out there that says the radio effect drops when he's being genuine about what he says, so if that flies him saying "Heavens no" really does mean he doesn't want her soul
Which has its own implications, because it implies Al never actually wanted Charlie's soul despite the power the princess of Hell's soul would give him. So that means Al understands that making that kind of barging with Charlie is too risky and could backfire or having her under his thumb wouldn't change anything. Which is alarming since who could possibly hold more sway in hell than Lucifer through Charlie as a proxy
@@ncisfan1002it makes sense but that would mean any threat he has made so far would be empty I think he can control it at will and when he’s confused he drops it by accident
At the end of episode 8, Alastor says that now he desires freedom more than anything. He wants to unclip his wings and i think he is talking about his freedom. I think Alistor did make a deal with Lilith and now he wants to make a deal with Charlie to break him free from Lilith's grasp.
Even if she made a "soul deal" with him, her position in the hierarchy can allow her to scrap said deal at any point should sais favor be displeasing to her. Though considering her gentle and kind nature. It tells me she wouldn't care much on what said favor would be at this point.
That would be bad writing to be honest. You cant be making up "stakes" and just because "Mary Sue" doesnt like the terms ignore those. I mean, you can, but that would be very bad writing.
Just laughing my butt off at the people who said “he secretly cares about Charlie” because I thought “nah no way he just wants to be free from the leash he’s on” and I WAS RIGHT!
Uh, he DOES care for Charlie, though. Not enough to not make deals with her, but enough to not throw her under the bus unless he felt he had to in order to gain his freedom.
I feel as though he cares very little. Like, yes, he is disgusted by the idea of dying for them as a friend/hero, and recently in 7+8 he's acted far more untrustworthy, but there's... Just a smidge, a tiny speck. He most likely doesn't care for Charlie as a person but more of a convenience.
@@bman296 if you ask me, with all of the stitches, Alastor is very reminiscent of a voodoo doll. That, combined with those sigils, was the giveaway for me.
I think he made a contract with Lilith while he was still alive, that's why he was so powerful the moment he died and went to Hell. The contract gave him some power while alive, and a lot more power when dead, but in exchange Lilith owns his Soul.
I love you can actually see a bit of disappointment and maybe fear in Charlie's eyes when Alastor propose the deal, because she can see that he's not changed at all. I think this is when Charkie realise it, at least, she gets that he's not around just for fun
Remember what stolas said to asmodeus. A deal with a deadly sin is ever lasting. Wonder how that applies to the princess of hell. Without an angel on her shoulder charlie made a deal with a devil
Fun fact in the voddoo story when you do a deal with a left hand it's the bad deal is when the only to benefit is the dude who proposed. Instead the right hand is the good deal. In the beggining we can see alastor using is left hand (so he was thinking on his own benefit) but when charlie questioned his morale he chose the right hand... Alastor it's seam he kinda cares.
He explained in this very episode. A smile is a valuable tool for him, because it inspires your friends, keeps your enemies guessing, and it ensures that you're always in control. It gives him a sense of control over any situation, because he's not showing fear through his facial expressions.
When alastors mother was dying he swore that he would never stop smiling for his mother from that day on to honor her. One of alastors goals in hell is to get to heaven to re-unite with his mother. So quick theory: Who knows. Maybe alastor gets redeemed throughout the show somehow, and one of his reasons for being at the hotel is to see if its actually possible for sinners to get to heaven.
Lucifer could, but I wonder what favor could Alastor want in the future. The wasn’t any souls dealt. Alastor souls is already on a leash and Charlie, well like I said Lucifer could.
I don't know, compare with Vaggie deal with Alastor for trying to help with a commercial, this one looks like a soul deal. If not almost the same level as one.
A main reason why he doesn't want her soul is because there'd be nothing for him except an angry daddy lucifer. Another reason is because she'd be on his chain and leash which wouldn't go well future wise given he needs her trust as he's most likely trying to gain her favor once she takes the throne. The deal sounds "harmless" but it's far from it as it comes in many different angles. Angle one is that Charlie can't hurt anyone including him only Alastor could hurt someone instead. Angle two is that this deal kills two birds with one stone since he could now have a favor of Lucifer given he'll listen to Charlie more than Alastor. Charlie definitely needs to learn the rules of "deal making". She screwed this one up big time.
His hunger for freedom, is so bad, just this fight, was enough to make him go mad, the state he is, in is absurd to even imagine, it is likely he has never had freedom even once he likes charlie as a friend, he see true potential in charlie, isn`t a lie, but he need her for his plan to succeed whatever is, its big to cover hell and earth and heaven the first part is unclipped his wings
Well she and her dad are more powerful than him. So a soul deal may not workout if daddy can just some and wipe him from existence. Or if allowed, she could do it herself.
@@silvy7394 It would less be Charlie removes the deal, (cause where are the stakes when she can simply wave it away?), more likely result in Alastor becoming just as powerful as Charlie and Lilith. This is all because Charlie would be _willingly_ selling her soul and allowing Alastor to take control of her authority. Really, just no different than using Blackmail to have more authority over someone IRL.
Honestly this deal alone showed for me just how deep his own plot goes. He’s not just doing this for them, he’s really doing it for his own gain. As far as we know he’s a powerful demon who’s capable of conquering the pentagram twice over. He had no intention of helping Charlie rehab the tenants who live at the hazbin hotel, it was clear from the pilot episode he has something else in mind now that we know more of this hell’s lore. Which means he’s either expanding his operation, or he’s been targeting Charlie’s powers for a very long time.
I like to think Alastor isn't sure what to use this favor for, but one thing I know for sure is he isn't using it to break his leash. It's possible he already knows what he'll use it for, but if it was for his leash, then he would've mentioned it in his song. No, instead he expressly mentioned looking for backdoors, attempts to circumvent whatever harsh contingents are part of his deal. Plus, a deal is based on contracts and the old English art of consideration. What if Alastor is working for Lilith to install Charlie on the Throne of Hell? A seemingly insurmountable task that explains exactly why he not only wants a deal with her, but why he has such disdain for Lucifer. Lucifer is Alastor's ultimate roadblock to getting his end of the deal and perhaps... calling in his favor on Charlie. He mentions that he'll be pulling the strings too, so it wouldn't make sense that he just uses the favor to get out from one thumb without getting someone else under his. Alastor might even be the big bad as Lilith is about to go and intervene, and Alastor's plans are almost completely unconfirmed/unknown.
He's desperate to escape the confines of his contract, some may think it's Lillith but I hopes it's something far beyond heaven or hell, during Charlies rally with the cannibals he told Rosie she has potential for guidance, guidance to free him with this favor or something to mold.
@@captnorange8434yeah exactly why he was so confident with fighting adam his power isn't demonic but is somthing completly foreign which is how he was able to knock off those original overlords I think when allister died he probably didnt even originally manifested there in first place but was givin the power then was sent to hell so he can conquer it for the loa he's a puppet to them

Btw if your wondering the stitches on al's face those aren't how stitches work they keep things *closed* not open so he actually truly smiled for once so he had to magically keep his face together.
No, Alastor has made it abundantly clear that no sould were taken. This is just a favor, and he gets to choose when to call in that favor. Charlie still has her soul.
@lukethepotatoking which makes you wonder again his Motivations. He can't harm anyone through use of the favor according to their deal so it isn't like he's gonna use it to destroy everything she's built. That'd hurt the souls trying to be redeemed. Then you have the fact that Alastor has a vested interest in the hotel when he shoos Mimzy. He could've asked for a lot more. Could've asked her for power, authority, anything but he chooses a favor. He doesn't name anything in particular but just a simple one time use favor that he can't cause direct damage with. Every possible bad thing he could've negotiated to get in this deal he didn't do....he didn't even entertain the possibility of anything outside of the soul thing but played it off as a joke. He's such a mystery that I'm wondering what's going on.
@@lukethepotatoking Alastor did say "One favor at a time of my choosing" in the part of the deal with the Princess of Hell, the daughter of Lucifer King of Hell himself. Who knows what kind of favor he has in his mind in the future.
Alastor being red but having a green glow to his deal and green strings around his smile makes me think someone forces him not only to smile but to make all those deals for some motive, someone that their energy and power are green
Something tells me that Alistor wasn’t expecting Charlie to say yes to that, that’s why those stitches appeared. Those stitches imply that he can’t frown in anyway whatsoever, maybe he actually wanted her to say no??
Theory: When Alastor usually fights his ability is a range of pink, red to purple. But when using excessive magic, such as making deals, fighting overlords and angels, it turns green. Which is probably the power he got from the deal he made with Lilith, that grants him ability to do things normal human souls can’t.
I’m guessing from Alastor’s insane look at the end of the show it seems he’s desperate to get his soul back, perhaps whoever has is soul is threatening to rip it apart (k!ll alastor) If he doesn’t do whatever they want before a certain time
We definitely are going to see Alastor becoming the true big bad of the series. The final obstacle. As he states in Ep 8, he's going to make it so that he is finally free and is able to pull the strings on everyone. To finally have full control over the inhabitants of Hell. However, I do wonder what his friends would think of him after this.
I think the reason why Alastor didn’t ask for Charlie’s soul was because his souls is owned by Lillith and part of the deal is that he can’t own Charlie’s soul. So he looked for a loophole, instead of owning Charlie’s soul or her power he just wanted a favor. Which is definetly going to involve Charlie breaking his bonds to Lillith.
There will be some serious consequences for this deal later. Maybe if it was Lilith that has Alastor on a leash, Alastor could use his "favour" with Charlie to get out of his deal.
Does anyone think that maybe nobody is making him help Charlie? That he is there of his own volition because he sees her as a way to break the hold someone else has over him? Who better to free him than the second most powerful being in hell? All this work with the hotel is just to build trust. Wirk his way in, become invaluable then use her to free him.
I think the reason Alastor asked for something as vague as a favor is because, while he intends to use Charlie to get out of his own deal somehow, he doesn't actually know how to do that. Once he figures it out, that's when he cashes in that favor.
@@gokuismymom8553she's already kinda at rock bottom rn. However, it was specified the favor can't cause harm to anyone so he accepted. She's included in that clause so whatever he has planned while it can't be good is something she still would have the authority to do.

Title is wrong. He didn't ask for her soul. He also said in the end that "she still owns her soul". But he can ask her of anything else that does not involve her "hurting anyone else". Which is much scarier for Charlie. He can literally ask anything and she will have to do it
Yes but it's a one time use favor. So his options on it are very limited. Which just means he already has in mind what he wants, but it can't be destructive or damning to those around him directly. And when alastor enters his wendigo or true form state hes stitched together almost as if it isnt really a body but a vessel for something ehem the shadow. Remember Raphael in Baldur’s Gate 3?
He offers a deal to the player where he gives them the Orphic Hammer so they can free Orpheus to defeat the Elder Brain, etc, and in return he gets the Crown, and promises to get rid of their tadpoles.

@@zairejordan4410 Pretty much.
The way his radio effect dropped when he said "Heavens no!" kinda threw me off
There's a theory out there that says the radio effect drops when he's being genuine about what he says, so if that flies him saying "Heavens no" really does mean he doesn't want her soul

Everything Alastor says is worthy of being its own clip. He is so entertaining. And you could tell he revels in the idea of having HER soul.
Even if she made a "soul deal" with him, her position in the hierarchy can allow her to scrap said deal at any point should sais favor be displeasing to her. Though considering her gentle and kind nature. It tells me she wouldn't care much on what said favor would be at this point.
Lets assume you are correct, this is Charlie we are talking about. If she doesn't honour her own contracts how will ANYONE trust her in her hotel?
That would be bad writing to be honest. You cant be making up "stakes" and just because "Mary Sue" doesnt like the terms ignore those. I mean, you can, but that would be very bad writing.

I wanna appreciate Husk's face for a moment. He looks genuinely upset and scared that Charlie made a deal with Alastor.
The fact that alastor kept smiling throughout the pilot and the last episode really intrigued me and wonder why he's like that
He explained in this very episode.
He got his deal...but he didn't aim for her soul?...ARRRGH WTF!? Alastor is such an enigma!
I mean if he did. You can bet Lucifer would have torn Alastor apart.
@@fbiuzz- Lucifer would have noticed something different about Charlie.
Lucifer could, but I wonder what favor could Alastor want in the future. The wasn’t any souls dealt. Alastor souls is already on a leash and Charlie, well like I said Lucifer could.
My guess, he's aiming for his own soul.
His hunger for freedom, is so bad, just this fight, was enough to make him go mad, the state he is, in is absurd to even imagine, it is likely he has never had freedom even once
he likes charlie as a friend, he see true potential in charlie, isn`t a lie, but he need her for his plan to succeed
whatever is, its big to cover hell and earth and heaven
the first part is unclipped his wings
Well she and her dad are more powerful than him. So a soul deal may not workout if daddy can just some and wipe him from existence. Or if allowed, she could do it herself.
@@silvy7394 It would less be Charlie removes the deal, (cause where are the stakes when she can simply wave it away?), more likely result in Alastor becoming just as powerful as Charlie and Lilith. This is all because Charlie would be _willingly_ selling her soul and allowing Alastor to take control of her authority.
Really, just no different than using Blackmail to have more authority over someone IRL.
Anyone else notice that they switch places when shaking hands. Almost like the power dynamic has switched.
Alastor got his back door, Charlie owes him a favor.
I love alastor and it explains why he can’t stop smiling bc the stitches maybe because someone owns his soul
Vox’s worst fears has come true
He's desperate to escape the confines of his contract, some may think it's Lillith but I hopes it's something far beyond heaven or hell, during Charlies rally with the cannibals he told Rosie she has potential for guidance, guidance to free him with this favor or something to mold.

I understand that when the situation is hopeless, you have to make very difficult decisions that may please you, but you do it for the good of others.
Something tells me that Alistor wasn’t expecting Charlie to say yes to that, that’s why those stitches appeared. Those stitches imply that he can’t frown in anyway whatsoever, maybe he actually wanted her to say no??
Ok holdup this actually kinda make sense
This is why alastor doesn't stop smiling it's bc of the strings they are sometimes invisible
Theory: When Alastor usually fights his ability is a range of pink, red to purple. But when using excessive magic, such as making deals, fighting overlords and angels, it turns green. Which is probably the power he got from the deal he made with Lilith, that grants him ability to do things normal human souls can’t.
Husk knew what happened and was concerned
I’m guessing from Alastor’s insane look at the end of the show it seems he’s desperate to get his soul back, perhaps whoever has is soul is threatening to rip it apart (k!ll alastor) If he doesn’t do whatever they want before a certain time
We definitely are going to see Alastor becoming the true big bad of the series. The final obstacle. As he states in Ep 8, he's going to make it so that he is finally free and is able to pull the strings on everyone. To finally have full control over the inhabitants of Hell. However, I do wonder what his friends would think of him after this.
So wanting freedom=pure evil? What???
Im thinking Charlie has the power to get him out of whatever deal he made with something and thats the favor he wants down the line

I like the fact thats alastor say heaven no instate of hell no😂😂
0:12 it's the freaking Minecraft wolf noise
Calling it now alastor will betray the hotel
I think the reason why Alastor didn’t ask for Charlie’s soul was because his souls is owned by Lillith and part of the deal is that he can’t own Charlie’s soul. So he looked for a loophole, instead of owning Charlie’s soul or her power he just wanted a favor. Which is definetly going to involve Charlie breaking his bonds to Lillith.
I love the big plot twist is that Alastor isn't actually trying to hurt anyone
There will be some serious consequences for this deal later.
Maybe if it was Lilith that has Alastor on a leash, Alastor could use his "favour" with Charlie to get out of his deal.
Why Alastor’s mouth is sowed with a smile ?! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Charlie if you are making a real with someone you ASK what the favor is first before saying yes! Ask questions first then act later
Alastor is too cunning for that. He wouldn't take the deal then. He would wait until she is in a desperate enough situation to not ask questions.

@@gokuismymom8553 That's very true and i guess her dad could help her if it gets too rocky
I love when you can hear his voice lose the radio filter
at 0:26 her hair is tied up, then it's down, then it's up again when she turns back 😭
bill cipher vibes in this scene . and i love it !
If alastor gains charlies soul then Lucifer gonna give him a pummeling.
I like Razzle and Dazzle's immediate protective response here, despite all the daily threats in hell, there is something very unique about making a deal, any deal, with an overlord like Alastor..
Well, that was stupid. Good luck, Charlie
0:04 you can here how Alastor sound is inspired by the wendigo noise they make great detail
This isn't going to backfire in any way...
How many times must it be said.
Dont. Make. Deals. With. ALISTOR!
Oh it 100% is
Alternative is that she let all of her friends get slaughtered including herself LOL
@@carnage0685 nah it was very evident later on that Lucifer would've clapped all the angels cheeks - he was far above them in power
Fun Fact : The noises played in the background when Alastor transformers is a "Wendigo" noise. Confirming that Alastor is in fact part Wendigo
It's actually an elk noise
Title is wrong. He didn't ask for her soul. He also said in the end that "she still owns her soul". But he can ask her of anything else that does not involve her "hurting anyone else". Which is much scarier for Charlie. He can literally ask anything and she will have to do it
Yes but it's a one time use favor. So his options on it are very limited.
Which just means he already has in mind what he wants, but it can't be destructive or damning to those around him directly. However, it still has to be something only SHE as the princess of hell can do. I think his favor does have to do with his own leash.
@@bman296 Well, yes
