Jackie Wilson was considered a master showman & one of the most dynamic singers & performers in pop, R&B, & rock & roll history, earning the nickname "Mr. Excitement". He had a lot of great hits in the 50's-60's such as "To Be Loved", "I'm Wanderin'", "We Have Love", "That's Why (I Love You So)", "I'll Be Satisfied", "Lonely Teardrops", "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher & Higher", "Baby Workout", & "I Get The Sweetest Feeling" .

Mr.Jackie Wilson was a family friend and one of the if not the GREATEST VOCALIST to ever grace a stage or hold a 🎤 microphone. I remember seeing him perform this song at The Apollo Theater when I was a kid and I can tell you the reaction was UNREAL women fainted and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house, it was the most AMAZING performance I’ve ever witnessed, and I have seen almost every top star of that period at The Apollo Theater. My Uncle Mr. Ronnie David Bright aka Mr. BassMan from The Valentines and Coasters sang background on Baby Work Out one of Mr. Jackie Wilson’s biggest hits.🎼🎤🎼”THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER JACKIE WILSON”.🎼🎤🎼

I saw Jackie Wilson perform in the late 60s. Such an outstanding performer. He was a favorite of Ed Sullivan and appeared several times on his show. You’re right Harri, both Elvis and Michael Jackson emulated him. Gone too soon.

The most incredible voice & emotional performance I've ever heard of this song. The 1st time I thought it was odd he was singing, especially on a youth orientated 1958 TV show, a 117 yr old English/Irish well known ballad about a mother sending her son off to WW1 never knowing if she would see him again. And then he began singing.... Oh my word...his vocals & the feelings he gifts us singing Oh Danny Boy are almost angelic. He takes you to a different place.

.This video is actually from 1965. Jackie did record Danny Boy in 1958 on his very first album, "He's So Fine". That versions more "traditional in presentation...but still has that Jackie Wilson stamp. The 1965 version was more of an R&B arrangement. This is the 1958 version ruclips.net/video/7ooi8_Et6I0/видео.html

I had a hunch you'd appreciate this suggestion, Harri. No . . . I KNEW you would! Thanks so much for playing it, as well as your excellent analysis and vivid memories of Jackie's style. As a teen at the time I loved him, too, and I bought every single 45 he dropped that I could get my hands on. And you are right, he was an absolute beast on stage.

Well done my friend, you can't do better than this. This is the man referred to as Mr.
Excitement, what a performer he was ,what vocal range.Note how he hits the falsetto with such ease and then he drops to a lower key.The man was a vocal acrobat,a showman,an entertainer. The stage was his home, he died in 1984,just short of fifty. He left us too soon.Speaking of truly outstanding vocals,I urge you to listen to a song called A Simple Prayer by the Ravens ,the voice of the lead will leave you speechless. Then you can follow that by listening to Little Anthony and The Imperials singing The Diary and Just Two Kind of People In The World with Little Anthony on lead.He really outdid himself in those songs.Looking forward to your reaction ASAP.

Though I've heard others say that there is a similarity between Elvis and Jackie, I don't see it.
One reason might could be that one of the artists that was a MAJOR influence on Jackie was Roy Hamilton. Roy was also one of Elvis' Idols and often copied him. Jackie Wilson was by far the greatest artist I had ever seen. As good as he was on record, his voice was even better 'Live' on stage. The first time I went to a Jackie Wilson concert I was 16 years old. I was lucky to meet him that night, and we became the best of friends. I was with Jackie in 1966 at "The Trip" in Hollywood where Jackie was performing. Elvis came down to see Jackie at the club. This was the first time they had ever met...even though many people keep reposting a false meeting of the two on the set of the movie "Girls, Girls, Girls" in 1962. Back stage, Elvis told jackie,"There is no reason in the world you're not the #1 singer today". To see Jackie on stage was magic. One cannot describe one of his performances, there just are no words. If you had ever seen him, you would know why...I had seen Jackie on stage approximately 150 times. No one will ever come close to this man's talent.

I saw Jackie many times , he was at his best without TV cameras , I am white and i saw him at many all Black Theatres , like the Breevort, in Brooklyn , the Brooklyn ,Fox The Pitkin Theatre , , Loews State , and in Harlem
Smalls Paradise , some of these were in Badass neighborhoods , and all blacks were at his shows and I wqas the only white guy , but we all loved and respected Great Stage Performance ,
I used to hide behind the giant curtains at the classiest Theatres between shows , the Performers did 4 shows a day, I stayed for all 4 shows , I cant find any good footage when Jackie worked his ass off, I was Jackie when Jimi Hendricks played with him, and also Billly Preston Band on tour with was on tour with Jackie , I saw him with Otis Reddin Back up band when Otis was sick , I saw Jackie return right after he was shot, He worked hard in those days and Earned the Name Mr Excitement... The live concert videros suck of Jackie Wilson on the Internet ,
I dont know why there are no videos of Jackie Wilson Live in the Late 1950's or 1960's But I know Jackie did not like performin to Cameras Warrem Desjardins 80m Years Young and still love powerful performances

Are you familiar with Danny Boy itself? It's an old folk song from Ireland, associated mainly with Northern Ireland these days, and spread to the world by the Irish diaspora. It's no coincidence that country artists and black artists also did the song back in the day, as the song's themes resonated with the rural community, still fresh off the depression, and the black community.
