Watching with interest! Doing a 28'6" of my own, never done a boat before, steep learning curve!

Ohh yes but worth every hour you spend onboard, nothing more satisfying than completing task by task and learning as you go, there’s always something that throws a spanner in the works but you overcome the pitfalls, I wish you all the best with your boat and we have more videos on the Colvic coming soon as it’s been juggling with work commitments and the boat so not a fast process ⛵️⛵️⛵️🙏

Regarding the waterline, once the work is complete, float the boat, fill the tanks so she is fully laiden, then go round the hull in a dinghy and mark 3 points.... 2" above the waterline at the bow, and then port and stb transom. Ideally make it a permanent mark, such as a scratch in the gell coat. Then when next out of the water, use your laser to line up the bow and transome mark, go round marking the lower edge of the boot line ie 2" above the water line. You can do the marking with trestles, a long board and a string, but if you have a laser, thats easier

Thank you very much for this information as it really helps, that was the plan in the end as without everything onboard there is no real way of guessing as you know it would probably be incorrect so this is great advice ⛵️

If you should ever in the future need to replace the deckhead and ceilings, try making it out of fiberglass and gelcoat made on a mold fabricated from patterned and smooth melamine sheets. Used all the scrap fiberglass and made it any color if wanted and it lasted 40 years with no maintenance except the necessary cleaning from time to time.

For what it's worth I have the same (34.5ft) hull with water & fuel tanks under the wheelhouse floor on either side, by the doors that have removable steps for accessing the tanks. each side has one water tank & one fuel tank. The water tanks are linked, fuel tanks are independent so the engine has two entirely separate fuel feeds. Total water is 340 litres, total fuel is 430 litres. They don't make a lot of difference to the waterline because she's such a heavy boat and they're in the middle, I'd guess maybe an inch difference between full & empty. They are quite rare boats so well worth saving, I live on mine & it's about as good as it gets for the size for full time living on in the Uk with our lovely weather. Best of luck with everything...

Thank you for your comment, this is great information and nice to hear that you also have this boat, currently working on the next video which is a little challenging as we are lifting the engine to get underneath, stay tuned for the next instalment ⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️

Hi, instead of painting the panel in the Galley area, have you considered a Stainless Steel Splash guard or Ceramic Tiles as they would probably be easier to wipe clean than paint. Also in the Galley roof / ceiling area have you considered using an insulation roll? You can get them made from recycled plastic bottles that don't turn to mush if they come into contact with moisture, many people use it on Camper Van conversions. If you do use it, it's advisable to use the 'high temperature' spray adhesive so that it still stays adhered even in very hot weather, it also acts as sound proofing.
Excellent Videos by the way, I'm new to this Channel and found myself having a Binge fest, eagerly awaiting your next updates on both this and the £1 Yacht

Use the laser to establish a waterline. How many times have we seen 'new' boats being relined because the original line was too low so any questimate will be ok until the next haul out and antifoul when lines can be redone. Also if there is another similar boat in the yard a surreptitious measure of their lines might give some reassurance.

That’s now definitely the plan, and there is a few boats to take some measurements from so hopefully that will help, thank you for your information ⛵️🙏

    Hi Guys
You need to be careful listening to advice as to where the water line is as no two Colvic Watsons are the same even on the same model
This is because the size/weight of the engine can vary, also where the fresh water tank/s fitted many below bunks in the fore cabin which changes the waterline when full,
Then where's the batteries and how many and where the fuel tanks fitted and how many, all can have an effect as to where the waterline is ,
Best way is afloat and fill the water and fuel tanks and photograph her broad side on and see how she lies🙂

Thank you Michael, this is a great help as there is a lot more to take into account than just standard Datum, with no two boats being the same it looks like it will be a dip in the water when she is loaded with everything. Thank you once again :)
