Hello, I’m from Upstate New York and I found your channel very recently. I don’t know if you’ll see this or not but I just wanted to give you a big thumbs up. I’m in my mid 70’s and I have an old sewing machine that I’ve been using since my, eldest son was a year old. When my son was a baby 51 years ago my husband bought me a Singer sewing machine in a cabinet, it’s a Singer 760 zigzag machine with automatic drop-in bobbin winder. I’d almost given up on it this past year because it was locking up and breaking thread. So I followed your instructions, cleaned and oiled it, now it runs beautifully. Thanks so much.
Funny, I bought one of these yesterday and it had a broken camstack gear, just like in the video. Fortunately I've got some machining tools and was able to mill a replacement part in the wee hours. The camstack gear needs to be indexed against the cam. The indexing affects the synchronization of the sideways versus up-and-down movement of the needle. There are some pretty large dead zones on both ends of travel, but the gear still needs to be placed on the cam within a small fraction of the width of one tooth. I just used trial and error.
As an aside, the failure of this gear is most likely due to the design/manufacturing process. The gear appears to be injection molded directly onto the hollow shaft. Either this molding process was not done as well as it could have been, or the aging of the plastic is causing the material to contract and eventually break from tension.
Hi, thanks for your nice educational videos about the 700 series. I have one at home, there is some play back en forward on the handwheel. I’m not sure if that is normal and what I have to do to fix it. Thanks anyway ☺️
Thank you so much for those really nice videos! I want to start sewing and thanks to you I am not afraid anymore to buy a vintage machine. I have a question. I am about to buy a singer 760 but I am not sure it has those stitch selector cans accessories. Is it a big deal? what stitches can it perform without it? I can't seem to find them do you know where I could look for it. ( I am very far away in Europe lol) Keep it up those videos are awsome. I keep watching them theoretically I am a singer 760 expert hahahaha
I was gifted a singer 700 on a table and am having trouble with the bottom bobbin holder I think it doesn't spin or catch thread. not sure if that is the problem but it's also filthy inside with hardened lubricant or oil
Oh my, could you please, please, PLEASE scan (or at least take photos) of all the positions on that wheel/dial reference card? (Or, simpler, make a scan/photo of the both sides of the interior wheel and outside sheath?) I've been looking for those in digital form, and they are nowhere to be found. I'd use them to create a printable version, and release it "to the people", and "into the wild". (I just purchased 740 in a bad condition, and will be attempting a repair, as well as design and/or 3D print the broken parts + recreate the fashion/flexi-stitch discs (and try to make those printable/customizable as well). Thank you for your overviews and detailed videos. They are of immense value. Also, thanks for your Elna series - my first/only machine until this 740 has been an Elna Lotus TSP Type 52, and I really *love* its compactness and design.)
Or... you know... just create a video that showcases all the settings (scroll-through and/or disassembled), and in a focus and decent lighting... (Although scans/photos would be better.)
If the cam stack is broken does that mean that the machine just can't use the cams? What I mean is, will the basic straight stitch still work if the cam stack is broken? I've been talking to a guy on FB selling one of these and he's saying it needs to be adjusted as the straight stitch seems to miss every now and then. So I'm wondering if an adjustment will work of if it's more likely the cam stack is broken and this machine can't be fixed without replacing the camstack. TIA
Hi, I have a Touch & Sew 778. I have had it as a back up. I took it out after watching your great videos and did some oiling. I don’t have any grease yet but thought I would look at TriFlo grease, a synthetic. What is your opinion? Also...when a Flexistitch cam is in does it make a louder noise? Any thoughts on what I might check? I am waiting to get a 0 top hat cam in the mail...none came with the machine when I found it at my local St Vincent’s. Thanks in advance if you have time to reply.
I'm not familiar with TriFlo grease so I could not provide any recommendation on that sorry. The machine may make more noise when the Flexistitch is engaged but not too much more. Thanks.
No tooth is missing in the cam gear, the plastic just shrunk and cracked open beacause it is cast around the metal cylinder. I 3d printed one as a temporary solution and press-fitted it. :-)
Hello and thanks for youur videos, veey helpful and pretty detailed! I have a Singer 760 machine. There's a problem with the Gear Just under the cam pack (the changjng discs sistema) . It Is brokem and makes the machine stoos each turno of the camstack. Do you think It Is Easy foinding the replacement item? And It Is Easy top male the replacement operativo? Thanks again mqx
Update.. i Dismounted the camstack and i was able ti separe the Camstack itself from the Gear and shaft. I think Is possibile refurbish the new sparge parte gear within the shaft. Could you please tell me if Is necessary to reset the machine due to the Camstack removing? If so, could you give me indications to do it right? Thanks again massimo
@@InStitches thanks a lot.. i bought online the service manual for the 500 Just to have the right notions ti reset the zigzag position. I see you have the 760 soecific manual for Oiling and servicing? Is It already online available for buy? Thanks again
I guess the design of the part could be quite time consuming but once done it would be quick to print. I don't have a 3d printer. Some of the gears are still available new.
What are the dimensions of the broken sprocket gear? I wonder if other ots parts would fit - like this one: www.aliexpress.com/i/32944788478.html ? Pity there wasn't some way to search for potentially compatible parts.

I was happy to see the cam gear… thanks, but wish i knew how to get it out of my 750
What about a 3D printer could it make your cog wheel?
Hi wanted to ask what the base price for that sewing machine

How the dickins did the gears on THAT cam stack get broken so badly? I wonder!!

I have thought about this too and I intend on doing a video on it. Not sure when though.

buona sera,ho comprato questa macchina da cucire ,man non riesco a fare lo zig Zag

I think that If you take this gear to a machinist you probably could get a metal replica one since its almost complete.
Machining a gear would be expensive to get done around here. I have the gear in stock at a reasonable price.
