Using Jordan Peterson's AI voice as a mouthpiece to reflect on my philosopher tierlist video 9 months later.
Shoutout to TallBart for inspiring this format. Развлечения
The only thing silly about the tier list is that you didn't include the greatest philosopher of our times, Jaden Smith
Lmao
I was hoping the name was going to be Diogenes.

This is it folks, this year's most awaited sequel.
Nietzsche, Freud and Jung would be ashamed of sharlatans like Jordan Peterson. Peterson took a clear side in our current childish culture war and therefore outed himself as a slave moralist.
i thought that comment section was so funny cause u literally say in the vide that ranking these people is not something to be taken seriously and that u were doing it in a completely laid back way with your criteria etc, and still u get some people that criticised it for being subjective and silly lmao
I mean, people are allowed to think his rankings are trash. Subjectivity doesn't make disagreement less likely, it makes it more likely, which is why scientific method go brrrr
Eh it's popular on RUclips comment section, they tend to be the least "impressive" part of any belief, brand, concept, person, etc
historians say duncan is still rustling the jimmies of armchair philosophers in the comment section to this day...
You should honestly do another philosopher tier list with some others like, Epicurus, Seneca, Voltaire, etc. and some of these newer "philosophers" like Andrew Tate
Andrew Tate is just an alternate reality Peterson.
- Adûnâi
@@angamaitesangahyando685 Andrew Tate and Jordan B. Peterson have basically nothing in common. Peterson is a real, influential and respectable philosopher, while Andrew is basically just an “influencer”.
@@Ludovicus1769 "respectable" huh? Please listen to enough people with actual philosophy education and you'll see what the consensus really is. You can have your opinion but JP is an infamous one, not even considered a philosopher by most.
@@canti7951 No, of course he’s not considered a philosopher. He doesn’t consider himself a philosopher either. But nonetheless he has a philosophy, and his take on Jungian psychology is NOT infamous.
@@Ludovicus1769 I agree with how he incorporates Jung into his ideas. I've taken a lot of inspiration from his psych lectures on yt. But I know you know he also explores countless other philosophical topics such as identity, christianity, post modernism, so called "cultural marxism", sovereignty, etc. Much of these topics he has a severe misunderstanding of, too many philosophers criticized his misrepresentation of marxism and downplaying of post modernist thinkers. He has a philosophy and it's based on not so solid grounds which is why many others refuse to call him a philosopher to begin with. To me, he's basically just the right side of the same "woke" coin when it comes to politics.

It was a fun video! You communicate your ideas and present knowledge so clearly when tackling philosophy, I really don't know what all the reddit moment hate was about.
Redditors are characterized by two things. Their ignorance and their inability to recognize their own ignorance. This perfectly applies to Duncan
@@ijon-y4549 Duncan gave a highly subjective, non-serious criteria and people are surprised that he followed it. It's like watching an 18+ movie and being mad about the sex/drugs/violence. Some of you really just need to develop listening skills.

Why bro moving at 1 fps
This made me laugh out loud.
I have never read a piece of work from Ayn Rand, beyond some paragraphs and extracts here and there on the internet. I never gave Objectivism, her system of thought, much importance.
But there are people -Objectivists- who think she is one of the greatest, or the greatest, philosopher ever (along with Aristotle, they'll add). Sometimes, Objectivists tell people who have not read Rand to read her, so that they can become rational, and abandon their "non-Objectivist, mystical beliefs".
I haven't read anything from Rand because I consider that the effort won't be worth it, as every time I've read something from Objectivists, I have not been persuaded that there is much to be learned from Rand. And also, there exists a critique available on the net that demolishes Objectivism.
This conclusion, however, has to be qualified. Should we reject views just because others with good qualifications say they ought to be rejected, and there are no critiques of their arguments for the rejections? Usually, yes. Such combination of factors is a very good reason to reject something without reading about it. This is how we generally go about in our life: rarely we go to the depths of Physics' journals to believe or disbelieve claims that physicists make. If a lot of people who have studied a subject for a long time agree on something, that is evidence for that something. It is not ultimate evidence, but the burden of proof is on you is you want to go against the consensus.
So defenders of ideas that are out of the consensus of relevant experts should take the best critiques that have been made against them, and refute them. It would also be nice for them to provide a brief introduction to their ideas, to reduce the cost for others of acquiring information about those ideas.
As someone who read both Hymn (wouldn't recommend) and The Fountainhead (recommend) by Ayn Rand and came out more of a leftie and constructivist than I was before, let me make the case for why you should give her books a chance. She is definitely a somewhat skilled writer and I'd be very surprised if the reason you can't finish her novels is because you dislike the prose that much or the story bores you. In fact, I think she found one of the most engaging ways to introduce her ideology to those who haven't heard of it before. Her stories are captivating, the characters (although often flat, more on that later) are unique and interesting enough for the purpose they serve in her books and honestly the way she writes romance and sex is refreshing to see, when most right-wingers you see online are the most fun-averse people you will ever have the displeasure to meet. I had also never read a political/philosophical work that left me with such a clear understanding of the kind of world she wishes for all of us to live in (put differently: you get a really good idea of her praxis). All of that combined makes it so you have an excellent basis to give a critique of her work and ideas, because not only is she very open about what she belives in, but also very clear in her communication and is A LOT more honest than most prominent, modern right wing thought leaders. Her books challenge your beliefs in a very helpful way, because they never feel in bad faith or shrouded in hyperbole/non-sequiturs/long winded diatribes/etc. It's also hilarious how the Fountainhead specifically is it's own best counter argument, because to make her ideology work she has to invent a guy who is in no way less fantastic than a superhero like Hulk or a mythological figure like Hercules. Like I said, I recommend it, if for no other reason than to understand this philosophy and ideology better that is definitely not without followers, even though most of them have never heard of "objectivism" or "laissez-faire capitalism".
Something I can warn you about that you might find off-putting and annoying though: All the "good" (and yes unfortunately her books characters run along a very clear good/bad divide) people agree with her philosophically, while all the "bad" people disagree and she has no shame to include someone who is of almost not importance to the story, for the sole purpose of showing "this is what the good people are like" and "this is what the bad people are like".

its really difficult to guess the intent of the duncan as the creator of this video. sometimes he uses the ai peterson to make fun of peterson, sometimes to be the personification/speaker for the commenters on the tier list video, sometimes as a speaker for duncan's thoughts and concerns, and sometimes for pure humour.

Dude. Have you ever listened to any Peterson's university lectures? I got hooked from your linguistic iceberg video, you're a smart dude. You should listen to either his maps of meaning, personality and it's transformations, or the psychologoical significance of the biblical stories lectures. If you ignore anything political and all the various 5 or 10 minute sound bytes and clips of him, and just listen to his clinical/philosophical work, i bet you'd change your mind about him.
Also yes, contra points made an excellent video about him. Why let a personal belief about which "political side" you're on keep you from the magic of discovery and insight though? Peterson is uncannily smart and he'd be the first to admit the shoulders of giants he sits on. He has much interesting to say.
Contra points and making good points are mutually exclusive things
Also you can never really convince people who write him off that he has anything to say, it's like trying to get apples from a lemon tree

Pesonal opinions can be shit and I am free to criticize your retarded opinions if I want to.
UHm facts don't care abotua yopur feelings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you all really that retarded, or just trolling? Saying that a personal work of yours is "biased" does not render it immune to criticism, it just shifts the criticism from the work itself, directly onto the person making it. From what I've gleaned, the main criticism of this video does not focus on the fact that it's biased, but the fact that the creator has a weird fixation on irrelevant french philosophers, while leaving out many greats. It seizes being a critique of the work and extends to become a critique of the author himself.
Imagine for a second, if a climate change denier made a poorly researched video about how climate change is fake, but prefaced it with "but I dunno man, that's just my opinion, dude" does that also render him immune to criticism?
@@ijon-y4549 Philosophy is like art that you can critique and enjoy, it’s incredibly subjective yet fun to argue about. Climate Change is objectively fact.

Imagine thinking that philosophy could be anything but biased when it's all just thinking about stuff and making claims with absolutely nothing backing it up other than "bro trust me"
I guess the point of Peterson not being a philosopher and his inclusion in a list of philosophers is ludicrous to the point of being an attempt at fan service. From the earlier videos I was just expecting more, but should have taken the hint when someone discussing philosophy mispronounces ‘qualia’. A tip would be to not worry about including assclowns who aren’t philosophers. It’s obvious that people who care about philosophy are going to have to sit on their hands while the dolts who can’t tell a philosopher from a psychologist get lured in by hoping to see pot shots being taken at public figures they dislike. 🙄
Worst of all, your Peterson voice synthesiser doesn’t even remotely sound enough like Kermit the Frog to be convincing.
I won't lie the qualia thing is a bit embarrassing. It's one of those words I've seen written down a lot more than I've heard it spoken

This is a very good illustration of why misinformation is so prevalent nowadays. Misinformation is just more profitable due to the increased engagement it will bring. The algorithm creates a selection bias on stuff that trigger strong emotions (which, I think, is a big reason we see more "Us vs them".rhetoric too. Content becomes more polarising and less nuanced).
