@@michaelh8854 he completely smoked a jazz standard and had more original ideas in there than most guitarists have in a lifetime. His originals are good too, but this was a masterclass.
It’s not so much bored as exhausted. He’s their manager and has been at every show making sure things go right - like that strange drum kit that the booth has for the band’s that played there so they didn’t have to lug full kits there. Check my post with the Carl Verheyen Band that played with the same kit. Both drummers showed it’s the player, not the drums that make the difference.
He is Gianluca Pellerito, check him out on YT, incredible musician as the bass player (Riccardo Oliva). No need to rate Matteo. It’s lovely to spot in the crowd Matteo’s dad, Vincenzo, a pro player himself (I remember admiring his solos for an Italian famous songwriter in the 90s), and also Marco Fanton, another brilliant player with a good channel here on YT.
@@sandrogaeta7690I’m familiar with Marco from the Fractal Forum. Great player. There’s another Italian guitarist who plays with his fingers who’s also great. He’s older and I’ve seen him play with Matteo on RUclips but I can’t remember his name.
Matteo has the most interesting ideas with arpeggios I’ve seen since Al DiMeola. No doubt the extreme flurry of legato is impressive but his musical sensibility is truly stunning

Sublime for sure but what's better is the joy that both his accompanying musicians seem to experience when they play with him and the audience experiences as well.

Nice job by all. Not an expert but I felt some George Benson. Jealous of matte finish wood grain guitar...that's what I want when I go back to electric someday.
what kind of tuning is he playing here ? I was just sitting down to transcribe some lines when I noticed that apparently his "a" string is tuned to "e" his "d" to "a" and so on - or am I missing something?
It’s a Bacci baritone guitar scaled as a regular 6 string. Carl Verheyen played one the day before and was joking that his C chord was two frets from where he’d usually play it
welp. obviously i wish i could do that. btw-his bass player and drummer are frickin monsters too. but back to matteo. he’s obviously a genius. i haven’t been this depressed about my own “playing” since i first heard/saw guthrie govan. i guess i prefer guthries virtuosity because hes able to apply it to a variety of sounds, genres etc-he hybrid country picks the same level as he flat out jazz alternate picks etc so theres more there there. but matteo’s a genius who’s showing the world a whole new way to play the guitar at the highest level. the only suggestion i humbly will make-very very humbly-is this: matteo. listen to pat martino’s original live version -not the later one w joey d.-of Sunny. its on his record simply titled, “Live!”In it, you’ll hear a virtuoso tell a story using velocity that builds to a breathtaking climax, all while never losing the melody. just throwing that out there, young master. 🙏🙏
The best guitarist on the friggin planet... taking into account his phrasing and technique... my God I'm Blown away!
this solo is like a complete dictionary of the classic jazz vocabulary
Who wants to listen to a dictionary though? Let’s hear some original music

He's a Master ...✌
The looks on the faces of the guitarist’s watching him. Contemplating taking up jazz bagpipes.
So you’re standing first row with one of the greatest musicians on earth killin’ it and you’re looking bored? Wish i was there, this is great.

Apparently if you weren't at NAMM you missed the greatest guitar performance ever. Incredible!
The drummer's kicking ass too. Very subdued but there's a lot going on. I've heard the bass player before and he's super good too.

Grande Matteo, ma Gianluca e Riccardo non sono da meno! ❤
I've been praising Matteo so much, shoutout to his band, too. Love those guys groove and play.
A well-recorded album with this setup in a studio would reinvigorate interest in a new jazz-rock hybrid.
Apparently he’s hoping for a second album to be recorded by year’s end.
