Having been fortunate to have seen live Jeff Beck, John McLaughlin Alan Holdsworth, Shawn Lane, Frank Gambale and other players who moved the needle, Matteo is my favorite modern guitarist. Long may he run. I hope to see Matteo in concert soon. In the meantime, thanks for sharing these live performance videos.
A few weeks ago a friend got me to check out a Mancuso performance. Going in I feared he would be a shredder w/ no substance. The goosebumps hit on the first tune, (it was the one played in this clip). Their version of Fred (the Holdsworth piece from Believe it) killed as did everything else they played! He's definitely soaked up some of the Shawn Lane/Eric Johnson sound, but fortunately there's quite a bit more going on too.
@@bbbofficial777 Ok, I’ll rephrase it: Can’t get enough of his guitar playing. The incredible thing is how versatile he is…classical, jazz, blues, fusion…just amazing.

Damn I'm glad my playing career went thru the 70's, 80's, 90's. All i had to do was keep up with Clapton, Hendrix, Santana, Beck. Child's play (well, Beck....) compared to the talent out there these days. MM is obviously the product of genetic engineering - let's hope he uses his powers in the service of good.
All is needed to create a Matteo is a very good professional guitar player as a dad, that let's you play classic guitar but forget to tell that for electric a pick is needed.. God bless also Vinnie the Dad
That riff @ 4:30 - $:40 is absolutely the greatest riff of all time.....All i can say is "no he didn't!?" Wow, the speed, accuracy, tone and feel of Matteo's playing is unmatched by any guitarist except of course Eddie and Eric Johnson., just my opinion, but I am a musician myself if that matters. Matteo = GOAT and his bassist and drummer are monsters on their instruments as well! Please come to the USA on tour so I can cop a couple riffs my dude!
Shawn and Matteo would have collaborated at some point in time. I can't imagine Matteo not getting to do an album with Frank Gambale. The Two biggest Fusion Giants on planet Earth today (because Allan Holdsworth is no longer alive) Rip Allan 2017!
In all my 50 years of playing, I still am astonished by how some soundmen lose track of what's happening on stage. Mateo walks toward the microphone to announce the drummer's name and the mic's not turned up. As musicians, especially backup musicians, It is ALWAYS great, and important, to hear your name. I don't know how many times I've watched a guitarist playing an awesome solo and his amp mic isn't turned up. This isn't a put down to all soundmen but as you good guys know, the best soundmen are the ones you don't notice.
Electric guitar technique evolves yet again, never has an instrument been so limitless, and MM is amazing. As an aside, I'm also happy to finally see Yamaha guitars get some love, they're sadly underrated, so maybe their time has finally come.
@@vescallaghan2544 No! he's picking with the ring finger holding the tip of the index finger as close as possible to the string. The index finger should stay on the fretboard part of the string and close just that much not to mute it.
Lots of times there's hype around a young player that just fizzles out, but Mancuso is the real deal. Musical, talented, creative, and he does it all without "showing off," like so many other skilled guitarists. The notes make sense.

At this level, the idea that one is better than the other is a matter of subjective preferences. Both guys could easily be someone's favorite. At the three Arsitocrats shows I went to Govan was really impressive, and has a very nimble sense of humor, he's maybe a bit more clinical sounding than Mancuso, like he had to focus and work his ass off to get there. Only caught one Mancuso performance so far, but he seems more like a guy who possibly didn't have to work as hard and is more naturally gifted. You'll hear more Shawn Lane, Eric Johnson and Holdsworth in Mancuso than you will in Govan. Govan often reminds me of Mike Keneally who is also a superlative musician.
It is my opinion, after more than 40 years of listening to all of Jazz in all its variants Matteo Mancuso is absolutely overrated. We will see if in the next 10 years we will remember a piece composed by him. I am not talking about technique or speed of performance, he does not lack that.
If he got paid for all those notes he played he’d be a billionaire but he’s a great player. But man he gotta play fast all the time. It’s like talking to someone who talks fast all the time it’s annoying lol 😂
