It's almost poetry, during the femcel story, right after the litany of gross pms, the gaming computer commercial came on with the opening line "what a horrible gaming experience"
Femcel story: NGL, my first thought was "I hope OP went nuclear with the report button on the DM and harasser." since 99.999999% of platforms explicitly state that sort of behavior is against their ToS.
I've been playing TTRPGs for like 17 years and have almost never encountered a romantic subplot. The only few times I did they were with a PC and NPC, I've never experienced romance between PCs even when they're played by an IRL couple. It surprises me how common it is outside of my experience. Not something I'd be uncomfortable with in my game but I don't think I'd do it myself.
I’m playing with a married couple for the first time and the wife (both hetero) chose to play a male animal race character. The husband? A bugbear. Neither are remotely interested in romancing anyone, let alone each other. They are like buddy cop criminals.
I refer to myself as an Ace Shipping goblin, I have next to no interest in a relationship myself, but I like to see people happy with each other. And that includes characters I play.

I can sympathize with the unfortunate timing of the Corona character's name. When starting a new campaign, I was going to set the first arc of the campaign in and around a city caught in the grip of a deadly plague. But as the pandemic went into full swing, I ended up deciding 'maybe this isn't the best theme right now' and ended up altering my plans for the city. Coming up with a new main threat for them to tackle in the early levels and changing the timeline of things so that the city 'had' been in the grip of a plague a few years ago but wasn't a present danger.
The name of my first DnD character's companion was Corona but it was named after the Sun, not the virus. And it was named that years before the virus. Then, I ended up naming my palico in MHW Corona as well. Again before we knew anything about the incoming pandemic. I felt I had to explain every time I played with people in MHW cause I really liked the name but, of course, did not forsee why that name was about to be bad in a few years' time...
@@Kaligraphy22 - Years ago, I invented a superheroine with fire powers called Corona. At the time, I was annoyed that there was a _beer_ by that name. Had I but known, dear reader.... 🤣

As for how he fell in love with her, he probably looked at her gear loadout, which displays a full image of the character from the front. So just because she was looking at a wall, doesn't mean he couldn't see what she looked like.

A dm asking me to leave the room is getting treated the same way as I did teachers in highschool: I'm going straight to the library and not coming back lol
@@SapphyDesuNee On my home world (Hyperion) there's a few Hroth who admitted to doing erp while involving the afk people around them in it. Super creepy
The reason you roll on stuff like intimidation, persuasion, etc is so that your introvert 50kg nerd is able to play a sexy half-orc bard, and nailing it. If the player isn't able to flirt, their character is still allowed to roll seduce. Also: imagine playing with your family. You don't wanna flirt with your siblings, or parents. The roll counts. Not what the player says. Their character is capable, even if *they* are not. I play with a lot of introverts, and also with autistic people. The way I handle those checks makes them very comfortable in trying a new role.
In the second story, the Barbarian doesn't sound like the problem player. The OP does. The Barbarian made it clear that they were interested in combat. The OP, new to the table, goes out of their way to diffuse combat situations, even a miniboss. The OP frames it as the Barb trying to stomp all over their RP, but they were stomping on the part the Barb wanted to enjoy. DnD is collaborative, which means a campaign should cater to everyone's needs. If the Barb was sitting quietly through RP sections, then sit back and let them cut loose during the combat sections.
Thought so too. Also the stretch of game were it came to a head was clearly a dungeon crawl part that probably was designed as some kind of apology to the barbarian char for missing out on the miniboss. The monk player already had fun by stopping the miniboss from attacking. They can't always be the one that gets their way.
Glad i found your comment cause i was going to write the same thing, The monk clearly got their way the majority of the time, but when the dm gives the barbarian clearly expendable enemies the monk stepped in to block his fun. It'd be different if the barbarian was murdering npcs and stuff but he was being hindered in combat scenarios which if he didn't care much for rp and let everyone else run that part was the only place he could actually play his character.
Yeah honestly, like. I ADORE rp. I also do enjoy combat too. And frankly, the OP sounds like the problem here. Play a pacifist, fine, but even a pacifist would know when some people need to die. And using your healing on the enemy just to keep them alive, so they can then go off and later hurt other people? Not very pacifist of you, tbh Also, tbh? Barbarians don't get a lot to do outside of combat. By defusing all the other combats, you directly remove the barbs usefulness in a game. AND some barbarian subclasses directly rely on their enemy being DEAD to gain the benefits of subclass traits.
Wow. Rare FFXIV Horror story. XD At least in my experience I've not really encountered that sort of thing from the FFXIV community. Of course I play an adorable little Lalafell, so fortunately I don't get creeps and just the more paternal types that want to pat and hug my lala. I can imagine that trying that with a Lala carries a much larger risk given what Lalas look like it'd be instantly telling on yourself to try and creep on one of them.
I think the big horror stories surrounding Lalafells happen in regards to the players who are needlessly rude and nasty to us all due to wanting to play short people.
Fellow ace here! But I'm not aro, so I can tell you how to look like you're in love! Just imagine you're looking at some object you both admire and want. Like...the most perfectly engineered RPG gaming table that you're just _one_ layway payment away from setting up in your home. Take a big helping of "I'm so happy that this is almost mine!" and mix it with "I'm so happy that something _this cool_ exists in the world!" and you should be good. ;)
I love how the first story's OP very obviously described Final Fantasy XIV without straight up namedropping it. Also a shame that the male au ra stereotype came in full force.
I think the better way to handle it is to focus on what the dialogue actually is. If, for instance, you say to the king "you should abdicate to me" he'll probably either take it as a joke or be insulted, but if you say to the king "You should give me command over your army for this battle, for I am an excellent commander" I think this would be a reasonable thing to try to persuade. In either case, it's not about "persuading the GM" insofar as it is "making sense with the plot" and I think for those moments, a roll might not always convey narrative properly.
I've been in a group where most of the party wanted to talk through everything while the barbarian just wanted to solve problems with her fists and/or axe. It *worked* -- because the barbarian's player knew how to have her character grumble quietly until it became clear that talking really wasn't working, and *then* charge in to move things forward. It kept the fun character dynamics and contrasts without derailing the interactions around the table. (My rule of thumb is that playing friction between the characters requires more coordination and cooperation between the players.)
(5:05) “…because I’m a dwarf and short I run half as fast as the taller party members.” that dm needs to talk to my friends cause they can confirm that i, someone cursed to be exactly 5ft for my whole life, has a walking speed that is faster than majority of their speed walking speeds (idk why but me and the other people in my friend group who are the shortest are always miles ahead of the rest of our friends). i’m also a gay guy and full of rage so that could also be a part of it, but still-
I've run into a similar situation to that barbarian story over and over and come to realize that whatever player chooses to play the most violently basically gets to control the direction of any game they're in as long as they don't cross any lines the GM set. Any time I've wanted to avoid violence it's always been up to whatever player was playing the most violently whether or not I got to do that. It's kinda put me off TTRPGs in general for the most part because there's always at least one player who wants to fight a lot, so I almost never get to do what I want.
To be fair you gotta think of it from their perspective. They are probably playing for the more interesting parts of the combat system and to be something they can't be in the real world. Not to mention some people are probably using dnd as a outlit for their stress and anxiety. Maybe its not the overly aggressive player stomping on everyone's fun and in fact it might be the 'pacifist' doing so. Some people want to answer the situations with their fist thats what they build their character around. Having one person always come in to diffuse the situation does kinda get irritating since I have had to dm a situation like that a few times. For you though you might just not be communicating well with the party above table. If there is always a situation you wanna take the pacifist route with but someone butts in you gotta say something above table. Or if its a whole fiasco with the party the party will need to discuss it and if you find yourself singled out with the decisions and the party most of the time doesnt choose your way. ( obviously in a very grown up manner and not rudely ignoring you ) then you might just be trying to play the wrong kinda character for the party. The dynamic your going for isnt meshing with the others.
@@felinemage8285 You didn't read anything I said did you. Like, yeah, if someone always comes along and diffuses the situation you're trying to turn into a fight that would be kind of irritating, but as I explicitly said, that can't happen, because ALL the violent player has to do to cause violence is be violent, and then there is violence. As long as the GM lets them do it they have complete control over the party's choices in any situation. If someone diffuses the situation all the violent player has to do is escalate it again by being violent. Within the limits of the GM's acceptance, the game will always be as violent as the most violent player wants it to be. So no. Me thinking of it from their perspective would not be fair. It'd just be further imbalancing things in their favor.
@@Siorche Kind of, but not necessarily. You can potentially see if the other players will exceed the level you're willing to accept, but if they don't go well over the line it's not really reasonable to just leave after one session where a character does something that's pretty normal in D&D like starting a fight. Talking about it is also not really an option since it's so subjective, and a lot of people hold a similar view to Felinemage8285 where they just think that any criticism of violent action is magically forcing them to play pacifists. A lot of people, (especially neuro-typical people) are pretty terrible at communicating clearly, because they rely on assuming that other people have the same assumptions that they have, and will often take any indication that that might not be the case as a personal attack. Also, it doesn't change the fundamental issue that whoever wants to start the most fights will always get to control the direction of the game so long as the GM doesn't directly stop them.
@@YumLemmingKebabs the barab made it clear from the start he was playing specifically for combat. Sounds like nobody objected. A DM can easily make a session where combat just isn't an option. There can be puzzles and exploration and rp with beings that literally cant be fought.
idk, the blood thirsty barb situation feels like an "Everyone Sucks Here" scenario. The unmoving pacifist vs unstoppable muredermachine could be a very interesting dynamic if either (ideally both) player could come to a compromise or the DM picked up on that and talked to each of them on how they should resolve it. Just imagine the barbarian realizing death is too merciful for some villains, or the monk understanding that some evils can only be stopped by force. Both of them taking it personally and not giving an inch is just not fun for anyone.
I immediately knew the 1st story was talking about Final Fantasy 14 😂especially after naming someone Au-Ra one of the literal names of one of the races you can play in the game lmao
The intro is 100% FFXIV. Au'ra gave it away but reference to venue culture was my tipping point. The fact though it was a male Au ra just reinforces so many seterotypes its bad.
GEE I wonder what game THAT COULD BE 😂 Licherally FF14 is my happy gaming place atm but people are VERY forward - on one memorable occasion I was followed around for AGES by someone who kept trying to goad me into ERP Like babes, I know I put a lot of thought into making my bun son pretty, as many do, but don’t have so much as his PECS out 99.99% of the time and I make NO INDICATION I’m down for that
"The other GMs stepped in again and convinced the guy to walk back the action and re-opened the archer's account and undo the damage" And kicking out that guy was never an option. In too many situations this would be the best option and yet is never done.
Yeah, especially as he's created a pattern at this point! If I was one of the GM, Screw "keep the peace" I'd be bringing up kicking him and have a HUGE portfolio at this point of his continued bad behavior and how no punishments or reprimands worked, noting when it SEEMED to work, it would only be when people's minds were still on the incident he caused, the moment he thinks the eyes are off him. He goes RIGHT BACK to this bad behavior! And this, this is the point where he finally crossed the line. And it's OUR fault because we saw the signs that it was clear he was testing how far he could go with this bad behavior. Getting worse and worse as he wasn't properly punished! And now he did "the big one" that is ALWAYS incoming when POS like him are indulged this long! He's not going to stop and his apologize is about as valued as himself which is "Worthless and less then a single penny in my pocket!" (And even then Copper has it's uses more then this POS and his fake apologizes) Take it from someone who made the SAME mistake for a decade before finally realizing POS is going to be a POS! They never changed and I just LOOKED at those few moments as "something their not....PROGRESS" Time for the grown up world to take charge and bring down consqeunces! Man/Women babies never learn because they were never properly punished in their AGE youth! So that came over to adulthood! Time to make that one person who said to their neglectful parents/guardians that "if they don't teach em, the adult world will" right by delivering an ACTUAL punishment! As this is repeated offenses with a BIG one like what he pulled! Immediate termination and exile from the group!
So when the guy faking autism negates what the barbarian was doing (in a dungeon that was CATERED TO HIS PLAY STYLE) that's fine. When you make the party take away a players autonomy by HOLDING HIM DOWN it's fine, but when he kills enemies that he was already killing, HE'S the asshole?
How bizarre is it that a dnd game can be so fundamentally different to a state where it's a whole new game. How surprising is it that it brought more frustration than enjoyment all because the dm didn't "believe" in what makes TTRPG straightforward and simple.
Not I horror story but I must tell y’all about my first time playing D&D. I was the DM and had forgotten to read the rules right before the game and I have a bad memory, so I forgot some important things. These being skill checks and combat. I knew they existed, but forgot how they worked. My players were all new to D&D (first game for all of us) so I couldn’t get help from my party. I decided you had to get a roll that matched or was higher than your ability except for on a 1 or 20, or if the ability score was 20, you just had to roll high. I think everyone knew it was wrong, but it was fun, so no one complained and it only last for that first session. Come to the story. My party, characters were pretty drunk by now, wanted to kill a goblin NPC because they had gotten info out of him already. I asked them to roll a str check. All failed except for my sister’s good aligned character. The barbarian was also passed out in a barrel after drinking two kegs of beer, lol. We still laugh about a couple years later!
I guess the DM has never heard that Dwarves are sprinters, very dangerous over short distences. Wait, what? I'm sorry, but thats complete nonsense. A Dwarf, or any form of small race for that matter, would be able to recognize people who were bigger than them, simply by necessity. Also, I'm pretty sure that dwarves arent THAT short, right? 4 feet on average is plenty tall enough to be able to see through a crowd, especially when you consider how hefty they tend to be without throwing in the heavy armour. It sounds like that DM is just a control freak who didnt like the OP for some reason. ...holy shit, that last one was one hell of a trip! What the actual fuck is wrong with that DM!? Side note, I've played Halo Mythic and holy shit, can that game be bullshit! We were playing Spartens and we STILL ended up getting shot full of holes on basically every mission. Ad...mitidly that was partly my fault because I built a shotgun character, not realizing that it was more meant for clearing out groups of low level mooks, not blasting Elites in the face. Also, highschool RP in Halo Mythic? Why? Our game started with our Spartens as new recruits (IE, kidnapped kids), but the antics there was mostly screwing with the staff, stealing shit and beating up ODST troopers. Not joking, we did that.
To be fair barb made it absolutely clear what his intent was and the same way you felt he was undoing you saving people is how he felt you were undoing him killing people.
Third story: tbf him healing the bad guys the barbarian specifically said he was killing in a combat focused session (which if I understood what the DM correctly, was meant to fulfill the barbarian’s need for combat) is also “undoing what the barbarian was trying to do”. I feel like is a bit of a double standard, when he saves the people the barbarian is killing it’s ok, when the barbarian kills the people he is trying to save he is the bad guy. That was just conflict of interests and he was not made for the table he signed in, but I feel the OP made it way bigger than it should’ve been.
Anyone else know what game they were talking about as soon as they mentioned venues in the intro story? I can confirm there are creeps in that game but they’re a major exception
@@JSzekely Given the fact that the creep was nicknamed au ra and the mentions of venues in player owned housing i'm pretty sure it was final fantasy 14
I am also weirded out by Au Ra but more by the fact that what he was doing was actually working because girls were sending him nudes and sexting with him, in and out of character. The only reason he got black listed was because he shared the info without consent. This is a very good reason, don't get me wrong, but I don't get why he was being sent nudes and sexts in the first place. Is this something that people do a lot of? I'm know I am old and probably out of touch but that has only happened to me a very small number of times and it was only with someone I knew well IRL.
I had always wanted to play DnD growing up but never had the kind of friends that would play, it took until my now early 30s to find a group that is perfect for my fiance and I to play with for example: This last session with the DnD group we're both a part of the whole group accidentally killed our friend, who had two pages for his character (monk/Wereape character). It all started with our Ranger making a joke about his ape form and they started fighting, while the rest of us either played poker in the background or wanted to join the fight. Unfortunately our group has no healer and after taking significant damage, he was just wailing in pain. That's when he was given mercy by way of a magician's hat being placed over his head. We all felt bad about his character's death but he just jumped to making a new character for the next session. Luckily it was all in good fun, we are a very rowdy and raunchy group sometimes but we love coming to these sessions to see what mayhem may come.
I'm sorry, if a party member goes around healing downed enemies it would piss me off too.. It's just as dumb and disruptive as when edgelords kill npcs at random because "it's what my character would do".
apparently the DM doesn't even believe in heavy armor, since 1 or 2 hits is enough to dispatch a warrior (a dwarf nonetheless) that is wearing heavy armor lol
I'm 100% sure in the last story that shlong pic was probably the Dm's and he was in on it. At least that's my guess as to why he basically brushed off how uncomfortable she was feeling.
"I want to jump over the table" "Okay. But how do you jump over the table?" "...uh, I jump over it... like I climb over it "Yes yes, but HOW?" [Other player jumps out of the window] "Like that!" "....But how, exactly?"
Once i was in a DnD group and one of the players named his Character Shadow, he also acted like someone who would name his char schadow made everything about himself and was just an absolute edgelord god he was annoying.
I deeply hope that everyone in the server in that last story abandoned that server afterwards. The fact that owner was close friends with such an awful person and sided with said awful person instead of the victim just shows that they don't deserve to have a server full of people.
Don't expect or even hope for fairness in the universe. It's their (owner's and players') decision to do what they want to do with their time. Your hopes mean nothing.
@@firion666 Oh get out of here with your pessimistic bs. Just because you had the same thing happen to you and nobody cared to do anything doesn't mean that people won't care here.
The only point I saw in the last story was that this person started asking the DM to make changes in mid session, while they were running a game. When the DM told them no, they started arguing... still in MID session. As a DM. I am willing to listen to pretty much anything. OUTSIDE an active session. Before... After.... on another day. The guy may have been a jerk, but there's no way to know if he would have been more receptive to the request if it hadn't been made when the GM was running a session.
I can honestly say that the very first one is probably FFXIV because Au Ra are a race in that game and that's pretty much how interactions can go pretty regularly, especially if you're in certain servers/worlds. Places like Balmung are especially known for people literally coming onto you in game/character and honestly that's how great conversations can happen and how I've met some great people that I have platonic friendships. And "married" in FFXIV is a pretty loose term since it only takes a sidequest and boom you're married in game and get free goodies. And most people are staring at walls while idling, that can't be really be avoided hahaha
I could instantly tell what mmo that game was on the intro story. I’ve had some creepy people in there too. Trying to position their characters close to mine so it looks explicit. Characters can get married in the game and so I had people constantly ask me to marry them over and over and over even though I keep saying I’m not interested. I even had one ask me since my character is a woman “are you a girl irl?” Before I can even reply I get bombarded with “are you on Facebook? Snapchat? Instagram? What’s your usernames so I can look you up?” I just told him I don’t to social media. Thankfully a dungeon run I was waiting for popped up at that moment so I never saw him again.
That first story (post-intro): House rules are great. I'm introducing a few of my own in my new campaign. But I maintain that if you're overhauling the 5e system to the point where you're fundamentally changing how the game is played, you should just play a different system. And you should definitely not introduce house rules that make the game less fun, especially not if they only affect one player (or if they're just dumb).
I Don't Believe In.... Everything Story. That DM sounds to me like they are taking what are some good ideas other DM's have used in their games, and failing miserably in execution. Skill Checks for one. Some DM's have done away with the Skills list. So any player can roll for Athletics, Persuasion, History, etc.; without specifically having that skill. Or having some one actually try to persuade, as a DM you should just take the roll, but allow the players to RP the check if they want to give extra bonus or advantage on the check itself if they make a good argument. And finally on HP. I have heard a few ways to deal with not using HP. Either taking existing HP and dividing by 6 giving you Hits. Then weapons do 1 Hit of damage per successful attack or 2 if they are a large or heavy weapon; and double if a crit. It does save some time by removing extra die rolls and math during the combat. But let's face it. At best this DM was failing hard in their execution of these. Or was just terrible all together.
@@ArcCaravan And for many that would work. But you would call an Athletics Check a DEX of STR Check instead without proficiency. And some skills are specific. Skills such as Acrobatics, Medicine, History, Arcana, and Religion you would not expect the average person to have a lot of knowledge or ability with them. With what I was talking about you would expect that though from Adventurers as they would have a broader base of knowledge. Now IIRC it was DM Lair that I heard this idea from. And I believe they came up with this as they noticed their players where not even attempting some things because they didn't have the specific skill. Removing skills got their players to start thinking outside the box more as they weren't restricted by what they knew and didn't know.
The last story made me pissed: 1. The girl harassing and being forcefully sexual is really gross 2. The DM not doing much is also no different Hope this person is doing well.
I don’t mind the “you have to explain your persuasion” as it stops people pulling a “I roll a Nat20 to persuade the king to make me the new king” But c’mon it’s gotta be fair
Thank god me and the other player that I clash with keep it strictly in-game and in-character. Everyone in the group has killed a character of his at least once but it's all in good fun and more importantly fits the system, Call of Cthulhu. Just the right amount of sh*t starting on his part.

Yup, absolutely NO contradiction there.
I'm really tall and can't distinguish between people either.
Only average height adventurers can partake in interactions with NPCs and enemies.
Just like IRL
I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when I heard the above quote 🤦♂🤦♂'
As you can see the quote is there right at the top of my comment and therefore, ABOVE the point I referred to it.

Gosh i wish we had contest from the party on this one. Because yeah you bring up a really good point
Not very pacifist of you, tbh
Also, tbh? Barbarians don't get a lot to do outside of combat. By defusing all the other combats, you directly remove the barbs usefulness in a game. AND some barbarian subclasses directly rely on their enemy being DEAD to gain the benefits of subclass traits.

Reading a MoringMark comic in the intro skit. Nice.
Wow. Rare FFXIV Horror story. XD
At least in my experience I've not really encountered that sort of thing from the FFXIV community.
Look up Pathra. She has a FFXIV drama story series
I think the big horror stories surrounding Lalafells happen in regards to the players who are needlessly rude and nasty to us all due to wanting to play short people.
To be fair, some Lalafell players are nasty pervs, or just nasty.
Fellow ace here! But I'm not aro, so I can tell you how to look like you're in love! Just imagine you're looking at some object you both admire and want.
I mean. They named the dude Au Ra. That’s basically the same as name dropping it because where else does that come up?
I understand the argument of "persuade the DM" but i don't like it fully sinply because the DM is going to have their biases
I use a mix of both, but I try to look at it in a perspective of that character, and only use it to modify the DC, not a definitive answer

(My rule of thumb is that playing friction between the characters requires more coordination and cooperation between the players.)

i’m also a gay guy and full of rage so that could also be a part of it, but still-
That intro story was a whole I don't want to know what.
Session 0s and talking about expectations and communicating properly would solve this issue.
Come on, you've never saw FFXIV's walls. They are works of art.
idk, the blood thirsty barb situation feels like an "Everyone Sucks Here" scenario.

He's not going to stop and his apologize is about as valued as himself which is "Worthless and less then a single penny in my pocket!" Not I horror story but I must tell y’all about my first time playing D&D.
Ah, junkyard dnd. Good fun.
That is a feasible check system though, good guess.

That first story (post-intro):
House rules are great.
Skill checks can already be used without proficiency, just without a proficiency bonus.
LITERALLY THE WORST NPC.
The last story made me pissed:
1. The girl harassing and being forcefully sexual is really gross
2. The DM not doing much is also no different
Hope this person is doing well.
I don’t mind the “you have to explain your persuasion” as it stops people pulling a “I roll a Nat20 to persuade the king to make me the new king”
But c’mon it’s gotta be fair
Thank god me and the other player that I clash with keep it strictly in-game and in-character. Everyone in the group has killed a character of his at least once but it's all in good fun and more importantly fits the system, Call of Cthulhu. Just the right amount of sh*t starting on his part.
As a veteran of textbased rpg I fight with people who want x-rated stuff on my TV-14 rated forums. It's annoying. Literally the worst NPC inf-ckingdeed. Holy crap.
