  • Geri was on the move all day, every day, until COPD from smoking robbed her of breath. Because of her illness, Geri had to quit her job as a mail carrier at the age of 54. Now on oxygen 24/7, Geri tries to enjoy every day she can.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother. My dad quit 6 weeks before he died. He already had stage 4 lung cancer. His doctor told him that if he didn't quit immediately, he had 1 week. He was a 3 pack a day chain smoker. He smoked for 57 years, since age 12.

My mom just passed away last night with stage 4 emphisema (COPD)
We were told two weeks ago that she would only have four years left, but we were just getting on the lung transplant list..
My mom got sick 2 days later and was forced on to a ventilator.
We tried getting my mom off the ventilator after 6 days.. It was still too much.
    She was so strong..
We spent the last 46 hours her bedside in the ICU until she passed away.
    ---
    I have so many regrets..
Even looking after her for a few years.. I still didn't wanna believe that my mom would ever go downhill so fast.
My mom was such an amazing person.. and now I feel dead inside.
The doctors will tell you it'll be fast and painless..
After the hell we just went through..
I seriously believe we should be assisting chronically ill patients in a quick and painless passing.
"Sedation" and fentynal is still NOT humane enough.
    ---
There's a multitude of newer treatments for helping people suffering from COPD.. They just haven't made it over the border into Canada yet. Smh!
A procedure that takes 30mins and doesn't even involve being put under for surgery.. That likely would've saved my moms life, at least long enough for her to get the lung transplant.
    --
    ❤🙏🏻 June 6th 2022. I love you Mom

Since I was very little, I’ve been watching this happen to my family members. Slowly and gradually. I know it’s killing them.
And all I can do is watch as they deteriorate before my eyes.
    It’s horrifying.
I’m 19. From a young person who loves their older relatives - please don’t do this to your kids.

My grandma lived in Michigan as well and she had Stage 4 COPD as well from smoking. She died at age 63 in 2018 as a result of it. She also had to use an oxygen tank just like this lady. Seeing all these commercials and knowing my grandma died from it really prevents me from ever starting.

My grandfather has emphysema from smoking for nearly 50 years. Luckily, he quit nearly 18 years ago. If he hadn’t, I doubt he’d be with us today (he’ll be 84 at the end of this month). Unfortunately, he has difficulty breathing when walking or exerting himself and makes a wheezing sound when he inhales sometimes, due to scar tissue on his lungs. Luckily, he doesn’t require oxygen, although he does keep a tank at home.

As Yoda said "Do or do Not, there is no "try". You Can do this and you have tell yourself that. If you can't go cold turkey (which I "tried" countless times) do what I did: First realize that you didn't smoke a pack the first time you had a cigarette. Nor did one cigarette, nor two, nor ten cause an addiction. You increased the number OVER TIME until you were addicted. Quit the same way. Purposefully give up One cigarette each day for 1 week. The next week (or two if you need it) you give up 2 cigarettes a day. Choose the easiest ones. Keep doing this over the following months and your addiction will be Weaned. It worked for me. But it is also habit. So also curtail doing the things that trigger the habit (going out for drinks, or dinner, or hanging out with smokers at break time etc., until you are clean. And if you falter one day or smoke a pack while you're out on a Saturday night, go right back to where you were at quitting, the next day. You haven't failed just because you had a slip. This works. And if it takes 10 months to be done with cigarettes, you will at least be cutting down in the meanwhile until you get there. Never add one to where you are at, stretch the time in between instead...go for a walk, clean a closet, etc.). It's been 50 years of not smoking for me! And thousands of dollars saved. Good luck!

I've been doing home school for a few reasons but mainly so I can stay and help her out and so my dad doesn't have to worry to much about her Incase something happens. My dad smokes alot just like she use to, which scares me honestly. I don't know how to get him to stop and I don't wanna lose them both to this damn disease and watch him slowly die to.

Maybe she didn't smoke. Maybe, she has Alpha One. Being a letter carrier, her lungs got a work out five days a week. Don't be so quick to judge. Only 15% of smokers get COPD. They are finding its genetic. Biologics are close to being available for COPD/Emphysema patients. Pray for that. ( it would be like the CF medications, back to normal). Blessings and hope. Look this information up.
