- Why was Christianity in Korea able to grow fast?
That's because there was a real repentance movement and a strong will to become self-reliant.
When Western missionaries first stepped on Korean soil to preach the gospel, it was said to have a very dark and gloomy atmosphere. This is the 1890s to the early 1900s. As the gospel spread to Korea, Western missionaries built churches, bought land, built hospitals, and built schools to promote education.
At this time, Koreans learned a lot about their sacrifice, but on the other hand, there were those who made financial gains by deceiving Western missionaries who did not know Korean politics.
Surprisingly, they were almost church members of Western missionaries.
When buying land, when buying a house, some members of the church helped and benefited. Yes, they were thieves.
In 1907 in Pyongyang, Elder Gil Seon-ju confessed his sins and experienced the anointing of the special Holy Spirit. The Great Awakening was a decisive event in the transformation of Korean Christianity into evangelical Christianity.
These revived Korean churches began to stand on their own feet, and Western missionaries entrusted all their power to the Korean church and left.
Since then, Korean churches have begun to be born again in special ways. Many scholars say that the driving force behind the revival of the Korean church is the #dawnprayer and revival meeting.
This cannot be said to have no side effects, but the fact is that the Korean church has become a country that sends missionaries to many countries around the world due to its rapid revival that is hard to find in the church history of the world.
The dawn prayer meeting and #self-support in Church, These two things became the driving force behind the revival of the Korean church.
There are many missionaries in Africa, Latin American countries, Southeast Asian countries.
But of all these countries, there are very few ministries that set up independent churches. Local ministers continue to call for help.
They ask to build a church, ask for their salary.
But the church is not self-reliant and keeps asking for what to support.
What's the problem?
This is because many missionaries were not good at teaching the basics.
Missionaries will leave here one day, so they must teach and train local ministers to do their own ministry.
In order to do so, we need to set up honest and experienced ministers who have experienced Jesus. in other word it is called "entire santification"
We don't need a large number of ministers, we need honest and spiritual ones.
If you don't get this foundation right, the church starts to fall apart.
Humans learn bad things quickly and learn good things slowly.
Because bad things can make money quickly or bring a lot of profits.
In the Bible, when you set up the deacons, you must be tested them.
"They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons. (1 Timothy 3:10).
You must be tested the leaders when you set them up.
You regret it later if you give them a priesthood without this process.
Do you know that local leaders now call you a walking ATM?
They ask you for money whenever they need it.
They don't even fasting prayer anymore, because there's a missionary who acts as a cash machine when needed.
So look back on your ministry and pray.
