I have a bit of an obsession with flare guns, so here is a video that I made a while back about another one. Just to keep y'all updated, these are the videos I am currently working on: -Another video about post-war downsizing similar to the Mothball Fleet video -Flak 38 part III (long overdue, I know, but I keep encountering difficulties during my research. It will be done soon, I promise!) -A couple of videos about WW2 ordnance, more details on those soon -A video about one of the most interesting and unique bayonets ever made. Finally added an example to my collection and just finished up the research and script for its video. I have had videos on the Soviet Order of the Red Star and American M8 flare gun done and ready for quite a while. Those should be related over the next two weeks.
Flare guns were used for all sorts of things. Signaling attacks or artillery bombardments, illuminating a battlefield, measuring wind speed/direction, marking an area with colored smoke, launching grenades, and much more. My other two flare gun videos go into more detail on that than this one, tried to keep it short and just focus on the design of the LP42.
Great video on this model and also the previous Leuchtpistole 34, i had some question I was hoping you could answer Would you happen to know the date or adoption, production or first use in combate of the Zink model Leuchtpistole 34 and the Leuchtpistole 42? I can't find any more info besides 1943, and you at least placed it into a more clear early vs late 1943 for both models
It is difficult to establish a more precise date due to the lack of primary evidence and the rather convoluted manner in which different manufacturers handled the transition. If you would like to send me an email I can give you some more information, albeit with a lot of caveats attached.
Interesting video, I own the same model with a serial number just over 500 higher than yours. The loaded chamber pin is not present on my example. The hole for the pin is welded over. The same post war marks are present on the barrel along with a post war serial number.
You know, watching your (very cool) videos, i am reminded of Forgotten Weapons, good job

Cool short video!
sir, where is or when is coming out the part three of the flak?
Another great one!
Please give me some detail on these. What was a flare gun used for in war time?

Interesting that the loaded chamber indicator is welded over. The Israelis must not have had spares for it or considered it unnecessary.
Really interesting flare gun
