And WHO doesn't love THIS song? Such a great, iconic song by the Kinks!
"That kind of stuff" has been around since the beginning of time. We all know that. This song came out in the 1960's. I think I heard they wouldn't play it on the radio at first.
That's what I said guy
One of the greatest double entendres in music
"I know what I am
And I'm glad I'm a man
So is Lola"
A great song and a classic.
Thanks for sharing.
I love this song, as I do most Kinks songs. They definitely feel like a proto-punk band to me, though some folks disagree. Listen to more of their early hits and you'll see it.
LOL….You missed “she picked me up and sat me on her knee”
I sho did lol
They say, even "in a dark brown voice" was a clue. I don't understand why though.
It's also fun watching you get a kick out of this! It is a very funny song!
True story about their manager.
Welcome to the 70's, bro!! Keep up with the reactions!!
I'm glad i'm a man and so was Lola .. One of the best double extenders ever
Didn’t even flinch was waiting for that moment…
I watch tons of reactors. For this song, you by far understood it. By far the best. You really listen. Thank you for your time and sharing. Best of times to you and those you love
This is apparently based on a true story but I think it happened to one of their roadies.
The line about nearly breaking his spine is my favorite.
I think it was their manager.
It was their road manager
I hate when people say " thats how things were back then" because thats how "things" have always been.
So true.
In the end he fell in love . So be it .Great song
One of their best. If you enjoyed this, I think you'd enjoy my favorite Kinks tune. It's funky and groovy, but unlike anything else they did. It's called Superman. Check it out
Great tune!!
^ Definitely! Or a more mellow vibe Celluloid Heroes is a great Kinks song too.
I love that this is basically the Kinks only love song.
Not at all. They have numerous love songs, my favorite being "The Way Love Used To Be".
I don’t think it’s ‘catfishing’ or deception as much as a naive guy who’s willing to suspend his belief. He’s curious and he’s content not to know for sure until he’s sees the 6am stubble 😘
Ok, now it’s time to listen to Walk on the Wild Side by Lou Reed!
Lou Reed! Definitely 'Walk on the Wild Side' - You'll get a kick out of it I think Mugs
I love this song as a child I would sing it at the top of my lungs having no clue what it meant and now decades later I still know all the words and can't help singing along
Great reaction
This is what it is lol! Have this on Reel to Reel
Always reminds me of Crocodile Dundee!
When this came out, 97% of reactions were "Wait, what!?" And thank you so much for teaching me a new word -- the Random House Historical Dictionary of American Slang knows a lot of obscure rude terms, but it had never heard of that sense of "catfish"...
One of my favs. Glad you covered it. Try "Powerman" a listen, also a great Kinks jam.
Robert Wace picked up a cross dresser in Paris. Almost made a big mistake.
Or not - I think the point is that in that state, by 6am he was willing to suspend belief
love your sense of humor about the song!
You do a nice job teasing out the lyrics! I will admit, I'm one of those guys caught by the music, and don't always listen closely to the lyrics. However, in my defense, the lyrics in this song are a little hard to hear. They're not really "out front" in the recording of this song. Nonetheless, I was missing a big piece of the song. Thanks for pulling it to the front for us!
Sir, you really should do yourself (and us) a favor and jam to the Doors, The Changeling
Apparently this was the managers experience 😂
First, love that you have guidelines for the comments. Second, just want to say that The Kinks are highly underrated. Suggest a later song of theirs called “Celluloid Heroes” about movie stars and how we idolize them but then forget about them once their star power has faded. Beautiful song.
Yeah no this song wouldn't get cancelled today.
It's wildly popular in the LGBTQ community, because mostly-straight guys falling madly in love with drag queens in Soho bars is a time-honoured tradition.
Ive never considered "fell for my Lola" to mean being deceived, i always just took it as falling in love - completely missed the double entendre there!!
Yes and heaven forbid right now this minute!! (Im pro This relationship by the way)
great reaction! love it😊
To each his own. I know some trans females and as a mother I know they don't choose this. It just is. God bless them.
A Transsexual isn’t the same as a Transvestite
Lola is not a transfemale. Lola is a man.
It’s funny,I’m sure it’s true story
Mugs the first requested was " A Dedicated Follower of Fashion" lol Thanks. I never knew it but the Kinks were banned from the US for over 4 years not for this song but fighting each other on stage and not paying up for Music stuff.
They had left the club together and were at Lola's apartment when she tells him that she's going to make him a man.
I got down on my and e looked a he and she at me. Gets a little graphic there. 😅😅😅
Donovan recording!
☮️💙💙💙🔥🔥😎
The lyrics provide a brilliant set of clues that things were not really what they seemed to be at this bar. The champagne was fake, tasted like cola. The candlelight was electric, not real flames. And of course, Lola was a he, not a she.
Great tune; some reactors get so caught up in the rhythm and instrumentals that they miss the lyrics. You were all over it though.
i love your reactions usually, but why read the lyrics before listening to the musical punchline... 😵💫
I normally dont do that lol honest mistake lol
After lola he still has not kissed a female
There are small nuances in the lyrics that you only pick up after repeated listenings or singalongs.
There’s no catfishing or deception. And even though it’s a funny song, Lola’s never the object of ridicule. We’re just enjoying the mini journey of life of the young inexperienced guy.
The song is about a man falling in love with another man. Ray Davies (the singer) is homosexual.
To the best of my knowledge, Ray is not gay, or even bisexual. He's been married to women several times and has kids. Don't know where you're getting your info unless you did him.
The song is about their road manager Robert Wace drunk picking up a cross dresser in Paris. They went back to her (his) apartment and danced till 6am. Davies asked Wace if he noticed the stubble , he said "yeah" but was too pissed (intoxicated) to care.
Davis is not gay, this song was about one of the bands crew
Who cares, but no Ray isn’t gay to my knowledge- it’s his manager’s tale adapted
@@edwardmeradith2419 I don't care either.
Just to explain the lyrics.
