I have one of these and was planning to do this exact upgrade. I couldn't understand why no-one had done it yet. Thanks for showing how worthwhile it is. Great Vid!
Me either! I just always assumed someone has tried it and it didn’t work so I wanted to see for myself. Definitely worth it if it’s your primary system 👍🏼
I did notice in the video when you weee spraying the lug nuts area you were on and off the ground bottom when spraying that area. My question is is there a reason for that ? Thank you in advance your content is awesome and thank you.
That’s an option, but also a permanent one. We do offer a fluidized that slips on the bottom of the tube to avoid any permanent modifications 👍🏼 www.royalcoatspowdercoating.com/product-page/eastwood-pcs-150-250-fluidizer
Glad I seen this before cutting a couple holes towards the top off center like cycle fab recommend! I’m sure his mod helps but this seems like it may be the better mod. Quick question. Could I use an old big air compressor that has rust and a a lot of moisture inside or would your recommend I get a small brand new 4 gal air compressor instead? I’ve already got moisture and oil filter on the gun. TIA!
Thank you very much for taking the time out of your day to reach out to me. I sure do learn lots from your video. I did see you push the ground button when you were painting the rims is there a reason for that or is that something you do Thank you again
When you're spraying the powder what are some tricks you use to minimize the bare spot from hanging the part, like I see you use Eye bolts for wheels how much of a bare spot does the nut leave?
Checked out a few of your vids defenatly subscribed, I have the dual voltage and damn does it suck when you gotta shake the crap outta of it while shooting, defenatky going to do this mod for sure thanks for the how to
So the small hose is just air (doesn’t need cleaned) and the latex hose (tan) is your powder hose. Blow out the powder hose with an air gun and then take a few pieces of backer rod that you can find real cheap at your local hardware store and shoot them through one by one. Then clean your gun and hopper as you normally would. Just one extra step than normal.
I ordered this kit and they delivered the hopper 2.0 in the box. And I can't return it or order a new one since I'm from Belgium and have to pay a lot of import duties and such. Not so happy
Hey Danny! After reviewing your invoice it looks like you have received the correct hopper 2.0 that was purchased. But we’d love to swap it out for you, we just ask that you cover shipping. Feel free to email me at royalpowdercoats@gmail.com if you’d like to get this hopper swapped out. Thanks!
Any possibility you can replace the threaded section that holds the cup on? I dropped mine ONE TIME and it cracked. 😭 I plastic welded it but it made a blister inside and I would like to just replace the part if possible. I can 3d print it but I don't want to break it further. Thanks!!
You could probably extended the cord but I wouldn’t recommend cutting the cord entirely since the charge is activated by pressing the button instead of the trigger. And these Eastwood units will shock the crap out of you if you accidentally touch the electrode
Great mod. What I can't understand is why companies can't just make a powder coating gun that DOESN'T need mods. It wouldn't take much. It just seems that they all fall short of good.
I’d suggest either using their latex hose or dedicated powder hose from elsewhere. I’ve never used a different material than what the companies sell. Im sure there’s a reason for the materials they use.
I usually clean the hopper and lid with just air and then I’ll blow 3-5 pieces of ~3/4” foam backer rod through the hose to get the powder out. Backer rod can be purchased at your local hardware store in 20’ pieces for a few bucks.
You could definitely set it up on a fluidizing hopper, but this was just some stuff I had laying around and always wondered if it would work. I don’t use it often so this was just for demonstration purposes for those just starting out and for guys that only use this system. If you do it post a video and let me know! Would love to see how it works 👍🏼
Thanks for posting this upgrade. I have a few questions if you dont mind. Does Columbia coatings still sell this style hopper? The ones on their site look different now. What size inner diameter is the latex powder hose? so I can source it elsewhere.
Looks like their hopper now will just take a different fitting for your air supply hose or you can just make one yourself if you want the style I have. Im not near the hose but I believe the hose ID is 1/2”.
I am trying to decide which unit to purchase and my question is, are you quickly shaking the gun back and forth out of habit? I would like to think I could pass the gun like a spray gun to apply, obviously not as fast.
The shaking pretty quick mainly has to do with the amount of powder that was flowing out with the hopper upgrade and the narrow spray pattern to not build it up so fast in one spot for more even coverage. With faraday areas, it doesn’t always work as easy as just passing over the part and it sticking everywhere. But you get closer to that with the professional level systems like I spray with in some of my other videos.
how does this upgrade anything. you complained about having to shake the gun but do it with the "upgrades" anyway. i haven't had powder clump up in the bottle enough to be shaken. maybe that's a storage issue. the zip tied trigger is pretty handy but i noticed you keep pressing it like your button spamming in mortal combat. I do notice a smaller controllable plume of powder but the end result is the exact same as a system without the mods. powder all over the floor and the part the same way. lol
The powder flow is way more consistent with the hopper over the cup. The shaking of the gun and pressing of the button are just things I do for getting better coverage in harder to reach areas. There is no storage issue, the powder settles in the bottom of the cup and stops fluidizing.

Sometimes this can help land powder in those harder to get areas. Thanks for watching!
you can drill 1/8" holes in the air tube (the long tube) at a downward spiral all the way around it and it works great for me.
That’s an option, but also a permanent one. We do offer a fluidized that slips on the bottom of the tube to avoid any permanent modifications 👍🏼 www.royalcoatspowdercoating.com/product-page/eastwood-pcs-150-250-fluidizer
Great video and some great advice . Keep up the good work
Thank you!
Dang! I wish I would have seen this when it came out. I spent just as much buying a handful of extra powder cups for my Dual voltage Eastwood gun.
It depends on how bad it is. Most compressors will let oil/moisture through the air lines.
Thank you very much for taking the time out of your day to reach out to me. I sure do learn lots from your video. I did see you push the ground button when you were painting the rims is there a reason for that or is that something you do

That helps the powder stick to the part your coating when pushing the button.. 😒
Could you tell me how long the tubes are that go into your kegs
When you're spraying the powder what are some tricks you use to minimize the bare spot from hanging the part, like I see you use Eye bolts for wheels how much of a bare spot does the nut leave?
I have the hopper 2.0, is it just supposed to lay on its side or what? With fittings on both ends I can’t find a good way to manage it
Here’s a good solution 👍🏼 www.royalcoatspowdercoating.com/product-page/hopper-holder
Do you have a video on how you made your kegs. I have made a couple of kegs but I don’t know how long the pieces that are go into the kegs.
Checked out a few of your vids defenatly subscribed, I have the dual voltage and damn does it suck when you gotta shake the crap outta of it while shooting, defenatky going to do this mod for sure thanks for the how to
Awesome, glad I could help you out! You’ll definitely like your dual voltage gun a lot more by doing this 👍🏼
Using your mods on my set-up. Thanks man
Thanks for supporting the channel!
Worth the time, effort, and money?
Do you still use that type of keg on your Eastwood gun
Thanks for the info, I do have a question. When switching colors is it hard to clean hoses?
So the small hose is just air (doesn’t need cleaned) and the latex hose (tan) is your powder hose. Blow out the powder hose with an air gun and then take a few pieces of backer rod that you can find real cheap at your local hardware store and shoot them through one by one. Are you selling the hoppers and if so how much are they
Hey! Just wanted to ask if this wheel was hot when you coated it? Or was it room temperature?
Wheel was at room temp 👍🏼
Any possibility you can replace the threaded section that holds the cup on?
I dropped mine ONE TIME and it cracked. 😭
I plastic welded it but it made a blister inside and I would like to just replace the part if possible. I can 3d print it but I don't want to break it further.
Thanks!!
On the Eastwood unit?
Can I cut the sire going to the gun and put a plug on it so I don't have to drag the whole kit with the gun?
You could probably extended the cord but I wouldn’t recommend cutting the cord entirely since the charge is activated by pressing the button instead of the trigger. And these Eastwood units will shock the crap out of you if you accidentally touch the electrode
Great mod. What I can't understand is why companies can't just make a powder coating gun that DOESN'T need mods. It wouldn't take much. It just seems that they all fall short of good.
Have you ever opened that switch that you have that charges the powder
The box or the hand held button?
Great video
Thank you!
Does it have to be a latex hose for the powder or can it be a different material hose?
I’d suggest either using their latex hose or dedicated powder hose from elsewhere. I’ve never used a different material than what the companies sell. Im sure there’s a reason for the materials they use.
@@royalcoatspowdercoating Thanks! Looking forward to trying this upgrade.

Hello. Are you still selling the powder coating system you showed in a video?
Yes they are available on my website. Here is a link directly to the system: www.royalcoatspowdercoating.com/product-page/rc-1-powder-coat-system
@@royalcoatspowdercoating thank you
Good morning. Are these in stock and how long does it take to deliver to 33955 zip code in Florida.
@@billypickell606 if you are referring to the RC-1 they are in stock. And will take 5-7 days to deliver.
Only thing left to do is hook thr Eastwood up to a fluidizing hopper with powder injector

What air pressure do you run with the keg
I think about 8-12psi
I was wondering how long are the tubes going into the keg
The kit comes with 8’ of each. You can purchase longer if needed.
@@royalcoatspowdercoating I made two kegs but I don’t know how long the tubes are going into the keg hooked to the bottom of the Led
@@royalcoatspowdercoating Are you selling the kegs and if so how much are they
