yea... but why they stopped the production of the legendary 1.9TDI and those crazy engine like W12-W8-W6 ?
@@ghostyghost6504 because 1.9 tdi was too reliable and mechanics weren't making enough bucks, so they made 2.0 tdi with way worse reliability, because that will bring more money

Watched this video 2 years ago for the first time and first time got to know W8 in b5. Have b5.5 1.9 TDI for 4 years now, that's how this video popped out while searching for Passat.

Just for those who might take you literally, it’s not two of any engine “bolted together” same for the W12 and W16. They are one piece blocks like any other engine. The head design is narrow angle offset VR on all of them. They are very unique in design. The flat-plane crank W8 is pretty special, whereas the naturally cross-plane W12 sounds like a big sexy VR6.

I have B5.5 2.5 V6 after my dad and when you punch it, the V6 sings. But the car is really heavy on the front axle.
In my opinion it is the best sounding engine in any car and unfortunately only in a w8

If you have a Passat W8 automatic, would it be difficult to change it to stick shift gear box? And if no, what type of gear box would you need for the W8?
Yes it would be difficult. You need to change the firewall to accommodate the clutch medal and cables. You also need to change the ecu. You can't just reprogram it. If you insist though the manuals use the o1e 6 speed gear box.

im wondering why the engine cover has the shape of four cilinders on each side. if its a w8 engine shouldn't it have two cilinder shapes on each side?

Yep, my old man has a v5 with the tiptronic. Would have loved it to be a manual
it's a slow gearbox, the 5 speed tip. To get a nice sound you have to put it in semi auto, not that great

I have always had a soft spot for this car - no particularly good reason, except it ticks a lot of boxes for me. It seemed ahead of it's time. I wonder if anyone has put turbo's on one - it would seem all the ingredients are there for a rapid flexible all round vehicle, like an Audi S4 or even RS4. In the UK, there are quite a few low mileage examples imported from Japan at reasonable prices (check out ebay). Honestly, I prefer the "valves closed" sound. Sorry Guerrilla!

Martin Berry Btw this car has been done with twin turbochargers aswell as an audi 4.2 V8 engine swap and also an electric turbocharger 😉
