I have done that when all the kids were still home, 7 kids. If the milk was made the night before and mixed with usually 2% milk, it was cold in the morning and no one ever knew. Even I would drink it. Same goes for just plain old p. Milk. Make it and refrigerate so it is cold! Makes it better every time.

I bought two bags of Great Value Non-Fat Powdered Milk a couple of years ago. I never used them and they passed the Use By date 13 months ago.
After watching this video, I decided to be brave. I opened one of the old bags and made a gallon. Then I stuck it in the fridge for an hour. Then I took it out and added 1/3rd Cup of sugar and 3/4 Tablespoon of Vanilla Extract. Stirred it up and sampled a spoonful.
It is absolutely DELICIOUS!! It tastes exactly like melted vanilla ice cream. So, the next time I make a gallon of it I will only use 1/4 Cup of sugar and the 1/2 Tablespoon of vanilla extract.

Great info. Thank you. I don't drink milk so I do buy powdered milk to cook with. I put a small quantity in a paper lunch sack. Fold top over once. Put in vacuum seal bags and seal up. Keep in storage in my basement. This way I can repackage it into very small quantities that are usable for me. The brown paper bag keeps it a bit darker and keeps my vacuum sealer from sucking up powder. I have been doing this with powdered milk and flour for years. Works very well.

I used to freeze canned milk in ice cube trays and add a cube to the powdered milk and that helped the taste. My sister freeze dried a can for me so I can add a bit of it to the powdered milk. Vanilla helps and cocoa mix is good. My mother in law mixed whole milk and powdered milk so it was less expensive and it really didn't taste bad when it was cold. She had 5 boys so needed to cut corners as much as possible,

Ovaltine when we drank it. I used it to make tapioca pudding . Takes 2 cups so I make one whole milk and one powdered milk. I am a milk drinker at 69 . About 1/2 gallon a day . Three a week . What ever little bit is left on shopping day I use to make buttermilk.

She would do half instant and half whole milk to make it last longer...yes we were poor but it worked and it kept milk on the table for the five of us kids. I have 2 kinds of powdered milk, the nonfat instant milk that is Walmart brand, and Nido which is whole milk powder. The nonfat instant milk is more granular and I have found that running it through my Ninja Storm pulverizes it to a more powdery form and it's way easier to reconstitute. I don't buy it to drink but use it in pancake mix, cream of soup mixes, gravy mixes, etc. I have also used the nonfat version several years after the best buy date and there was no issues.

My panty is cool and it stores well. I use a dark material that right now has cows on it My mother for awhile would buy a gallon of milk - pour 1/2 into another clean empty gallon container, then mix up 1 gallon of powered milk and put 1/2 in with the 1/2 of regular milk. We never knew till she got caught mixing it up. We never noticed a difference. Just saw 2 jugs of milk in the fridge.

Make whole milk from powdered milk. I pressure can butter some of which is unsalted. Mix your powdered milk and take a portion and warm it. Add unsalted butter to taste and blend til the butter is suspended in the warm milk. Then add the buttered milk back to the rest of your powdered milk mix and cool. Note if too much butter has been used some will condense out as butter flecks. Good way to have whole milk on the shelf. Another option is Nestle Nido, but my experience is with only using for a few years.

I don't drink milk, but use it in cereals and for baking, cooking etc. But, we have a freeze dryer and I have been storing whole milk for the future. Actually tastes pretty good when water is added back to it.

Thank you so much for the flavor suggestions!
Growing up mom shopped only 1 time a month- we had real milk for about a week then she’d start mixing in powdered milk to regular milk for another week or so and then we were down to powdered milk only😝.
our sugar intake was very limited so sugary cereal sure would’ve helped.
I have some in storage but now I feel better about getting more!
You rock! Thanks for always keeping us informed!!!🤗

powdered milk can be jazzed up with chocolate shake or drink mix, make your own hot cocoa mix or cook and bake with it. I store powdered milk in prefilled cans and in mylar bags I filled myself

Started using powdered milk this past year...got tired of wasting milk because it didn't get used in time. It works great in oatmeal and all other cooking/baking.

My mom tried to get us to drink powdered milk when I was little, but it was awful! She put it in a milk container and stored it in the fridge. We were poor so she didn't buy the sweeten cereal..so me being a smart 7 yr old decided to add sugar to the entire gallon!! Haha!! Needless to say I got a red rump for that. I'm 56 now, so you had me laughing when you said to add sugar. 🤣

My husband and I don't mind powdered milk. I do like your idea of adding a touch of sugar and a drop of vanilla to it. Thanks!

The taste of powdered milk never troubled that much, but good to know how to make it better. Somehow I knew your method was going to involve vanilla extract!

I don't just drink a glass of milk...BUT it is important. My husband does drink milk. I use it on cereals, cooking, especially biscuits and gravy.
I have thrive stored. It is great to just mix a bit for a recipe. I also purchased NIDO full fat. It is great to make cream cheese.

i love your videos i feel the professionalism thank you S.D. BTW i just bought a Vacuum Sealer and looking for different ways to use the sealer for long term storage. Im thinking on ordering Powder Milk, i could also buy powdered milk in a box from my local grocery store and you already said get it out of the box and get it in Myler bags or Mason Jars. I may go that route.

I have mylar for the milk and flour. Things I keep in quart jars I store in the banker's boxes I buy at Walmart. They hold 12 quarts and you can stack 350 pounds in a stack of boxes. I cover the boxes with pretty contact paper so I can store them in a stack in the bedroom and they still look nice and the boxes keep out the light.

@@cathyhumphries5870 I don't see why not as long as whatever you want to store fits.
