At the age of 56, I am not going into another relationship, as this video highlights, yes I'd rather be by myself now & medicated & working. I've identified I only attract men who want Mothering & are not self assured who they are either. Its exhausting & triggering for me so I'm not putting myself through it anymore, getting old & tired & need my energy for me. Thankfully I have a good network of friends, but never have I heard a professional with such insight into our mental health. Great vid ladies.

It’s so funny! That’s what I do. I clean houses and it is perfect for me. I have ten clients now and started to do gardening as well.
On the journey! It’s a journey!

So interesting and encouraging as it's such a stigmatised disorder. I have BPD and am 24 but unfortunately mine is still very problematic and I'm still not in recovery but am currently doing DBT group therapy and I have hope that one day I can improve and live without it impacting my life so much.

A fantastic conversation! I admire your work and Dr. Choi-Kain's, you've all been really important in helping me feel connected to other people in the most challenging 21 months of my life.
I have to say, I frequently struggle around the idea of the merits of work and community, and felt that even while listening. Sometimes it all feels like a distraction from the reality of not having the connections I want. I guess, though, an immediate answer to that doubt is that stabilisation is a good way to have healthier relationships the people you care about. It's hard to enjoy people's presence as much as you want to and feel mentally present when you're very symptomatic.
But I think more importantly difficulty of BPD recovery feels being drawn to the zero sum game of "if I'm focusing on self regulation I'm letting go and saying these things don't matter." Focusing on recovery and stabilisation not only allows you to prioritise other people, but also to reduce the sense of need and to actually enjoy being yourself as well. BPD definitely pushes me towards that false scarcity mindset, whereas actually there's abundant possibility in various directions.

What is GPM and how can people having trouble finding treatment learn more about it?

    • @thebpdbunch

GPM stands for general psychiatric management, or good psychiatric management. Here is an overview from McLean Hospital:

This is so helpful to me. Ty! I recently started working again but I’m not doing well mentally bc of it. It’s made me feel very defeated. But now I’m realizing that I need to do something that’s less pressure.

I'm thankful my BPD is in remission/not presenting but resources like this help me keep it that way! I work in recovery housing (currently the mentor for a men's addiction recovery house) and it's been an experience so far! I've also seen so many men come through with so much similarity to my own past struggles who will likely not be diagnosed BPD since 'substance use disorder' seems to be a catch all and stopping point. So glad I found this cannel and can't wait to hear more!

My suggestion would be to stay away from the news, especially b/c they know that bad news sells, so they are bound to get you in a bad mindset. That being said the UN just came out and reduced the amount of deaths in Gaza by half - it seems that Hamas was exaggerating the number - and most of the deaths were terrorists. Unfortunately when Hamas uses children and women as shields there will sadly always be collateral damage.
