I just had this surgery, 1 night in the hospital, minimal pain, some discomfort around the wound, and the new catheter causes cramps and some leakage of urine. The catheter will stay for 2 weeks, and the total recovery time is 3 to 4 weeks.

I had an open simple prostatectomy done 10 months ago. I was on tamsulosin for 15 years but then went into retention. The operation went well, but had a 6 week recovery. The result was fantastic. Feel very fortunate that I can pee again without a catheter.

Very happy to hear you are doing well. The bladder health can certainly suffer from years of working against a blockage. Glad you were able to ultimately void again and get rid of the catheter.

Congratulation! I am in exactly the same boat, and hoping for relief from the catheter, and NO damage to my bladder. Cheers!

    Excellent presentation!
My prostate is over 200 mg volume, is it too large for this procedure from your experience?

It will really depend on your surgeon’s experience with the technique as to how large of a prostate they feel comfortable doing. I have performed robotic simple approach for prostates >200 gm. Feel free to check out the Prostate Health Academy for more education on these options. We also have ongoing discussion on various procedures in our community forum as well as members who have underwent these procedures including robotic simple. www.prostatehealthacademy.com
