Well, my problem comes with an Oxygen 61 MK IV, I'm manually mapping the controls and all was going fine but.. when it came to the mod wheel that I want it to assing to CC1 I can't find a way to do it, I program the mod wheel to send the CC1 with values between 0 to 127, then I switch to MIDI map mode in ableton, and I click in, by example, track 1 and then I move the wheel to let Ableton to know the control I'm assigning, but what it does it's to change to track 2.. instead expression command. I don't want to use the auto mapping since it maps awfully for my way of using it.. but I cannot find a way to program and assign the mod wheel. Do you know how to do it? Or if you know where I can find the information it will be welcomed.
I don't know if you'll be able to help me. I am trying to map a control surface script in Ableton but I'm stuck because one button, 'shift' and one knob 'multi purpose master control' are unassigned, yet do multiple things and I just haven't found a way to get Ableton to read them! Any ideas?
Lovely video, but unfortunately it doesn't help me map my MIDI controller to MODO Bass 2. I'm using an Alesis V61 keyboard controller which has knobs and pads on it. They will control onboard Ableton parameters but not third party plugins. I tried hitting "configure" in the MODO Bass 2 plugin window in the Ableton instrument channel but it will not allow me to specify the "palm mute" feature, even though the MODO bass manual says that this parameter can be controlled my MIDI CC. I also tried hitting the MIDI map button in Ableton and then clicking on the parameter in MODO Bass 2 but nothing happened. Kind of frustrating. If you have any insights they would be much appreciated. Thanks!
I am pretty sure that to scroll horizontally you'll need to use a controller script. You can however map to any channel strip you want by clicking at the top of the strip and that will change your focus. I wish there was better news in this department.
@@LiveKeyboardist for some reason when I bought Live 10 yesterday the script that came with the Midi Control Center for Arturia Minilab MK2 and Lite stopped working :(

I'm a multi-instrumentalist trying to find a way to build a setup that allows me to record, loop and navigate Ableton without my hands.. so... i am looking for MIDI foot controllers (namely with Ableton dedicated scripts) percussion pads i can use to map & trigger Ableton actions....etc.. I just bumped into your channel, so i am gonna watch the other videos.. but... have you got any suggestions ? Thanks for the comments! I’d seriously look into the novation sk mk 3. It’s unbelievable in controlling Ableton (I’ve got a review coming out on that next week ) since your a multi instrumentalist also worth looking at the push 2. I’ve heard great things about the morning star, but haven’t tried it personally.
@@LiveKeyboardist Hey thanks so much for the feedback, I was really close to getting the Novation SK III last year.. but i wanted sth with hammer weighted keys.. and full range 88 keys. Also.. i already own a Maschine Jam for controlling Ableton...so that sort of kills the Push 2 , as well.. I am good when i am at the desk.. with the setup ive got.. What i need is sth that i could use to navigate Ableton when away from the desk.... which is inevitably 80% of the time. I need to use Session view to record clips..loop clips and move between them.. Normally i'm either standing behind a marimba... or sitting behind a Drumset.. or percussion set.. away from the DAW.. and away from the Maschine Jam. I have also looked into several MIDI Foot controllers like the Nektar Pacer, for eg.... but that one has no Ableton dedicated Script..although it looks really solid, and features various footswitches/triggers. Do you think i could map a device like an Alesis Sample Pad Pro, to move up and down through clips, arm and record tracks, launch scenes, delete clips,... or duplicate them... stuff like that.. ? Is it doable ? The pad or ideally a MIDI Foot controller TOO .. I've seen ppl mapping basic transport functions.. and even other single commands.. but never being able to navigate through the clips..when standing 10 or 20 feet from the PC. any ..hehehe.. further comments ? Thanks again !
Yes, what you are hoping to do is totally possible. As far as navigation from a controller like a drum pad or something - I would map up and down in the master track. Then, for any channel you want to have the ability to record/fire, there is an individual play button on each track. mapping to that will allow you to fire clips by scrolling up and down to find the appropriate row, and choosing the mapped fire button for that channel, or to record if the track is enabled. I think I would decide if you prefer a foot controller or drum pad controller and go from there. Though perhaps a combination of a few techniques would be best, Feet for navigation and drum pad for firing clips/ recording.
I have ableton live 10.1 and I' m about to buy a midi keyboard that has been relased on dec 2020, so there's no 'midi control surface' for this specific keyboard on the midi preferences in ableton. I Am wondering if this will affect the functionality of the keyboard...anyone knows?
Hey Rolle! You are safe to use this keyboard with Ableton. A control surface has preprogrammed control over a lot of built in Ableton features, many of them can be manually mapped (but ofcourse this has to be done on a set by set level.) you can still create any mapping you want or need, but it won’t be the type of control a surface works awesome. Which keyboard are you looking at? Also FWIW I almost never use the control scripts on my Keylab. I use my push for that functionality. And for live performance I manually map what I need.
@@LiveKeyboardist thanks for the reply. The keyboard is the oxygen pro 49. Yes I know that i can manually map, but this one comes (m-audio says) with premapped daw controls( ableton included). The doubt i have is if you need the latest version of ableton in order to get everything work fine. I can't decide between the oxygen pro or the keylab essential becouse the pro has better keybed and aftertouch but on the other hand I'm sure that the keylab will work fine with live 10. What do you suggest?
@@rollelagrange5708 if it says it comes with premapped controls, it will for sure work. As for a recommendations, it’s sounds like you prefer the feel of the oxygen, since that’s no small thing, I’d go for it. I think as far as ableton version goes, it shouldn’t matter. Some control scripts aren’t listed, but still work.
It would be a slightly different process to play piano notes. Just set the midi to to receive from the machine and set monitor to in. Then, as long as your pads are sending midi notes, it will trigger which ever sound you have loaded onto that channel strip.
Full disclosure, I don’t use the Maschine at all so I could be missing something specific to that device. But try this: 1. In midi preferences, make sure “track” is enabled for the Maschine 2. Create a midi channel strip with the midi input set to “all” 3 change monitor to “in” Let me know if that works!
Dude, you don't know what you're talking about. Not all controls output MIDI CCs. For instance, my controller only outputs Sysex. Stop saying "ANY controller will definitely work". It's not true. Learn about MIDI first, then you can teach others.
it took me like 40 min to know I needed to enable remote on my device thanks a lot!!!

Happens sometimes. Make sure from your midi input list remote is turned on and from the controller list in preferences your keyboard is enabled.

Are you able to map an up and down in midi? For track sectioning?
Yes. Enter mapping mode and there will be up and down arrows on the master channel above the fader.
