  • The other day, a #crypto gaming company reached to me to ask if I'd be interested in reviewing their game. Luckily for them, they created the perfect example of an #nftgame , so of course I offered to review it for free! This video contains my opinions and a brief analysis of Citizen Conflict - the newly released crypto game available on the #EpicGames Store.
It's definitely not one of my favorites, that's for sure.

This was the response I received from the devs after they saw this review:
    "Hi there,
We saw your review of our project, and we get that you may not love it, but it's still in the Alpha phase. Just a heads up, our game is built from scratch, not using Unreal Engine Lyra.
Our game designers and team have worked on games like Mafia, Arma, and Horizon, so they know their stuff.
Quick clarification: before we settled on Citizen Conflict, we had working names like Cybertrade and Crypto Citizens it was a same game just different name, not other games.
About our trade race manager game it was a game- it's different. But compare to Web2 You don't lose your assets when the game ends. We let users swap them for new ones, for free. And the trades on market are p2p
Before making claims, do some research.
    Thanks"

It would seem that many "crypto content creators" did take the offer, as I saw a bunch of people praising the game on Twitter. Not sure how many of them even played the game though, since they all seem to have copy-pasted the same "review" and showed no gameplay footage of their own

The intro cinematic to Citizen Conflict is quite something.
No showcase of gameplay, no presentation of the setting the game takes place in, no establishing of the charcters.
It's just 100% talk about how awsome lootboxes are and how you should totally spend money on them.
Crazy to think that in a time when most games try to hide/disguise their microtransaction behind artificial in-game currency or layers of in-game shops, these guys thought it would be a great idea to make their entire advertisement about it.

I swear, the entire crypto/NFT space is built by people who love cyberpunk as a genre, but unironically think it’s a great future to live up to. I can’t even say they only see the genre at surface level, because a big part of the cyberpunk aesthetic is being very in-your-face and unambiguous when depicting how bad life is in these settings.
Like, the word “metaverse” comes from Snow Crash, which is a book about life in a horrifying libertarian dystopia. Metaverse bros love comparing the end goals of their projects to Ready Player One, which I actually think is a bit too simplistic and heavy-handed with the whole “corporations bad” message.

The shitty attempt at being "edgy" and "cool" by swearing and using "hip" and "modern" words is what really sells it to me.
One thing is the swearing, but the "You might be able to SNAG some KILLER stuff" and "Savage!" etc. just remind me of those typical middle age Indian scammers that try to sound like a young American, and it just makes me laugh so fucking much.
It doesn't fit in at all.
I don't know how you are supposed to take a game that use "and if it aint your vibe" unironically, but you would think they had at least one youthful person on the team that would be able to tell them that what they are making is beyond lame!
Hell, Im not even that young anymore, so I can't imagine just how much the younger generation is finding this sort of obvious attempt at pandering off putting, but it just makes no sense to me that they actually think this would, in any way shape or form, actually be seen as cool by people that aren't way past 55 and are going through a midlife crisis...

There's some massive esports that could be considered broken messes, yet because people want to play them, they make rules to make them more balanced just because of how much they wanna play and have fun.
