I drag race back in 1984 with a kz 1000 and it ran 9.3 -135 ànd I am 62 years old and I watch u- tube cycle drag racing and it is nice to see the old Kawasaki holding there own these days.Back in the 84 or somewhere in there was this guy who went 169mph in the quarter mile.Nice looking bike and I hope it is still kicking ass go kawasaki.Allen Desrosiers mass.
man that is one bad-ass bike. I live in Daytona and I have a couple KZ900's.. They're fast...but not THAT fast! You can just hear the power in that engine. Damn! 8.60 @151mph! That is UNREAL!
garfield5012 did you know Kawasaki uses the same exact motor in the Kawasaki kz1000 an the Kawasaki zx10r and Kawasaki zx6 has the same exact motor as a kz600
I have several Kawasaki motorcycles .mostly 70's & some 80's. I have the first year ZX...1100-A1..that was 1983 & also referred to as the GPz. Those were air-cooled engines..1984 they came out with water cooled ZX900 and that was the first Ninja and they were popular...I don't know much about the newer ones, but I have built many these older engines.
garfield5012 hell yeah I thought it was kinda cool when I found out they use the same exact inline four cylinder motor in the older Kawasaki kz1000 and in the ninja zx10r
No , the first generation KZ1000 was in 1977 & was air cooled.. second generation was called MK2 1979 & 1980.. 1981 saw a new KZ1000 J model they called it actually a 998...where as the older ones were 1015cc. the newer ZX line is not even close to these old engines. Maybe similar to the 1987 ZL Eliminator engine or Concours of 1986 and up...but not with the older ones.
Robert Ford I just got (very) lucky and bought a 74 Z-1 900 and am having the carbs restored. Putting a new clutch in and repainting it to original. Good luck with yours, and remember "KAWASAKI LETS THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!"
I remember his blue drag bike that was in his shop, another amazing piece of art/machinery.
