Aussie Rules seems like a mix of sports, but was created in the 1850s and is technically the oldest codified football game in the world, so pre-dates most of the other sports. Welcome to the best game you've never heard of! :)

@@macdac9861 Different rules are added by all sports all the time. Does that mean the original rules weren't written down? Or that they don't count? Of course not.
To say that rugby wasn't 'fully codified' - what does that even mean? All the rules or all the game were written down in 1845. And what other 'regions' played rugby in 1845? Certainly none that didn't acknowledge Rugby School as the ones who determined the rules. Scottish football clubs played a mishmash of different rules adopted from all over until the 1860s, but that doesn't mean rugby or soccer weren't 'fully codified.' They were, its just that the Scots preferred their own mixture of rules.
The claim was that Australian football is the oldest codified football game in the world, and it isn't. Its the second oldest - but only by a few years, and that's something to be proud of, I think.

I'm an American, but I got into AFL about five years ago and it's now my favorite sport (go Port Adelaide Power!). It's got the strategy of soccer, but the excitement of college basketball. One rule/penalty the video didn't mention is "holding the ball." You've got to try to get rid of it before someone tackles you. If you had opportunity to do so but someone tackles you and you don't get rid of it properly (kicking or punching it), then the other team gets a free kick with the ball at that spot. Just throwing the ball or dropping it to the ground (other than bouncing it back to yourself) is "incorrect disposal" with the same penalty result.

If you bounce it as you are tackled its holding the ball . But you are correct , its a very important rule because the tackle is one of the best ways to win the ball back . No matter how good a team is they can succumb to tackling pressure. The tackle should be rewarded more than it is .

This Aussie game is older than the others that you mentioned. It is based on a game called 'marn grook' which was played by the aboriginal people of western Victoria, Australia, maybe for thousands of years. They used a stuffed animal skin for the ball. What makes the game interesting is the oval ball, which bounces randomly, so players have to be super alert regarding the direction the ball goes. The players are extreme athletes who can run over 10 kilometres plus in each game. Some AFL players have gone to American football as punters because they are so good at kicking goals (and they can do it on the run, too). In Victoria, the origin state of Aussie Rules, 'footy' is the 'religion'. It is played in all states and territories.

There’s no evidence to say that it definitely originated from Marngrook, but it’s possible that there was some influence.
More than anything, Tom Wills was a product of the Rugby School in the UK, and many of the early rules were thought to have been influenced by early versions of rugby and soccer.

Kicking your opponent - kicking at a ball in a way likely to cause injury to your opponent is specifically banned, as is attacking them. Basically, at a minimum you're going to at least get your opponent awarded a free kick, at worse your conduct will be referred to the AFL Tribunal. There you could be fined, suspended and/or banned - depending on the severity of what you did.
Players can wear a groin guard, but as the shorts are tight and small, it would be very obvious.

You should definitely do more reactions to AFL, there's a lot of skill in the game (kicking), athleticism ("marks", a mark is a catch) and brutality (tackles and hits).
You should reacto to "AFL BIggest Hits Part 1", brutal stuff!
    - They boots they were are closing to soccer boots than NFL which are more pointed. On rainy days some players will wear the screw in cleats like NFL ones.

I grew up with Aussie Rules Football. My Dad’s family were into it. Watching you both respond to the game kind of made me a little nostalgic so thanks for that. People who play AFL do succumb to some pretty serious injuries and there’s been a lot of discussion about protective head gear lately because of concussive injuries. We’ve had, probably, too cavalier an attitude towards Aussie Ruiles and a lot of ‘tough’ talk around physical injuries. However, now that there’s a women’s league so now women are getting concussions and injuries, the conversation as amped up a bit. There’s a big legal case mounting against the corporate arm of the AFL regarding ex-players who now have brain injuries that has affected their lives. So it’s a tough game but it also has some pretty tough consequences.

In Australia it's NOT ONLY (AFL Australian Football League) as our winter game but also there is our (NRL National Rugby League) as our other winter sport as well too of course.
For starters is that Rugby League Football has (13 Thirteen) players per team & their,
    NUMBERING POSITIONS are, (1) Fullback, (2 & 5) Wings, (3 & 4) Centres, (6) 5/8th, (7) Halfback, (9) Hooker, (8 & 10) Front Row Forwards, (11 & 12) 2nd Row Forwards, (13) Lock, of course.
SCORING POINTS, which are a Try, is worth (4 Four) Points & a Conversion after a try is scored is worth (2 Two) Points, A Penalty Goal is worth (2 Two) Points & a Drop Goal (aka) a Field Goal is worth (1 One) Point of course.
There are (NO) Line Outs, Rucks & Mauls, in Rugby League Football at all, & in Rugby League Football players can use a Punt Kick (aka) a Torpedo Kick during play but (NOT) to be used for a Field &/or Drop Goal situation at all but a Drop Kick is only permitted for this situation of course.
Exactly very same as Rugby Union Football is that in Rugby League Football also there are (NO) Forward Passes of the ball to be allowed at all & also that Offsides are (NOT) allowed at all either of course.
There are only (6 Six) Tackles in which a tackled player is after being tackled by the opposing team must play the ball by using his feet to rake the ball to his teammate who behind him waiting for the ball to either to be next ball carrier to run towards the defending team &/or pass the ball backwards to his other team mates and once they either reach the (4th &/or 5th) tackle then the players can kick the ball very deep into the defending team's territory regardless using a Torpedo Kick, Drop Kick &/or a Bomb Kick especially towards the defending team's goal area & besides that Rugby League Football is a more of a slower pace of game which less free flowing of a game of course.
Besides that, Rugby League Football Code started in (1895) in Huddersfield in the North of England that was called Northern Union because it came off from Rugby Union Football Code then later on it changed its name from Northern Union Football to Rugby League Football being from (15) players down to (13) players per team of course.
But however that Rugby Union Football Code who did not like any their players to become professional players by transitioning from Union to League for payments by playing the Rugby League Football Code but although that Rugby Union Football Code would rather keep their Football Code as amateur as possible by (NOT) paying their very own players of money as compensation while they been away from their very own jobs &/or work because of their football injuries that had suffered while playing of course.
But the Rugby League Football Code is manly being played in Great Britain in England & Wales, France, Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea then so many years later on it has been spreading into South Africa, Scotland, Ireland, United States America, Canada, & also in a Number of other European Countries of Europe then it is developing into a Number of other new Countries from Asia, Africa, South America, The Pacific Islands, Middle East like Lebanon, for both Men & Women & Boys & Girls of course.

AFL is a completely home grown sport but the USA has a domestic league and has had it for 25 years but AFL was a coded (has rules) before your football or soccer before rugby and the sports you say it's kind of like us wrong they are like our game. In Ireland they play a game almost like AFL but with a round ball and the goals have a crossbar Australia play a modified game against Ireland that's a mixture of both games once a year it's called international rules. Some of AFL players after their AFL careers are over go across to the USA and play in the NFL as kickers well into their 40s. Some AFL players run almost a marathon every game women and children from the age of 7 play the game. My advice watch AFL on tv or better yet find a game in the US close to you and go watch it the game is perfect for tv viewing it has speed high scoring and hard hits also doesn't stop and start like the NFL does but watch the game and enjoy.

Take most of your NFL positions, and then that’s what each AFL player has to do at their own respective positions as well
    They’re wide receivers
    ‘Quarterbacks’
    Running backs
    All of it
And then you have specialists within these,
    Defenders
    Midfielders
    Attackers
All still have to be able to Kick, Catch, defend and attack

Nice reaction. Although it looks like it was made up of lots of other sports, it is older than most of those. The first game was in 1858. It is very popular in Australia but is only played in small competitions outside Australia. There are amateur leagues in the US and other countries. These teams are often composed of a mixture of expatriate Australians and locals. Every two years the AFL brings teams from several countries to play off for the International Cup. There are several teams for Oceania, Asia, North America, Africa and Europe. There is even a team composed of a mixture of Israelis and Palestinians. There is no Australian team, because it is a professional sport here and it would not be fair (or interesting). The idea is to foster the game in other countries. There are no professional leagues outside of Australia. It is definitely not an Olympic sport but it was a demonstration sport in the Melbourne Olympics in 1956, to show it off to the world. The AFL has played games for points in New Zealand and China and demonstration games in the US, Canada, Japan and the UK, but these have not been especially successful. Sometimes Australia and Ireland play a series of games of a hybrid code that mixes the rules of Gaelic football and Australian football, called International rules. It is played on a rectangular pitch with a round ball (like Gaelic football), tackling is allowed (like Australian football) and the goals are a bit of a mixture of the two games. It is pretty entertaining but not really taken seriously.

Aussie rules as we know it now came about in the 1850's after some sports masters at a college watched some first nations youth playing a traditional aboriginal game called "marngrook" . The atletiscism of the game which required running, jumping, kicking and hand ball skills impressed them so much that they added a few structural rules and regulations and aussie rules was born . So technically, it is thousands of years old.

People who already have a familiarity with volleyball, basketball, and other games tend to see those elements in this game, so that is only natural that they see the game this way. However, Aus Rules predates most of these games so it's incorrect to think that Aus Rules took those features from those other games.

We don't wear padding in Aussie Rules (Footy, Aerial Ping Pong) it was derived from Irish Football yet we put our own spin to it 😊! And why not watch a game of Rugby then you'll see how tough the players are! And Aussie Rules is only played here in OZ (maybe in New Zealand they have a league) but don't think so but like your American Football (Gridiron) we don't really have a league out here for that sport...sorry!

They do have a kicking in danger rule, and leading with your stops out rule (whatever that's called, newish rule), but if you otherwise happen to get kicked in the private area, you've just got to take it. I do recall someone getting reported for kneeing a player in the balls. And there were players with a reputation for giving parts a little tweak in the pack when tackling.

I have coaching accreditation level three in actual fact it is the more rules than any other form of football and in actual fact it doesn't have just a rule book if you are are coaching or becoming an umpire you also get a book on how to interpretate the rules called spirit of the law, because there is a fine line on judgment. generally it goes the way of the player making the ball the object and not the player and always first infringement has the higher weight.

to let you both know that (AFL Australian Football League) Aussie Rules Football is (NOT) Only the main winter football code but also their other main rival winter football code is the (NRL National Rugby League) as in the Rugby League Football Code that also being played in winter both here in Australia & New Zealand of course.
Rugby League Football Code is mainly being played in Queensland, New South Wales & (ACT Australian Capital Territory) while the Australian Rules Football Code is mainly being played in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory & Tasmania & that's real difference between both Rugby League & Australian Rules Football Codes of course.
In both of our (NRL National Rugby League Men's) & also in our (NRLW National Rugby League Women's) Competitions there are Rugby League Teams are the,
(1 One) New South Wales based teams that are, Parramatta Eels, South Sydney Rabbitohs, Penrith Panthers, St-George Illawarra Dragons, Newcastle Knights, Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs, Cronulla Sutherland Sharks, West Tigers & finally Manly Warringah Sea Eagles.
(2 Two) Queensland based teams that are, Brisbane Broncos, North Queensland Cowboys, Gold Coast Titans & finally Redcliffe Dolphins.

(3 Three) (ACT Australian Capital Territory) based team which is Canberra Raiders.
(4 Four) Victorian based team which is Melbourne Storm.
(5 Five) New Zealand Warriors was previously called as their original very old name was called the Auckland Warriors from Auckland, New Zealand.
The Rugby League Football Code who got the idea of (SOO State of Origin) from their Australian Rules Football Code counterparts in which that Australian Rules Football who actually did & originally did had that concept of (SOO State of Origin) Australian Rules for example, Victoria plays any of Queensland, New South Wales, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia all in Melbourne,
New South Wales plays any of Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia in Sydney,
Queensland plays any of New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia all in Brisbane,
Tasmania plays any of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia all in Hobart,
South Australia plays any of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, Western Australia all in Adelaide,
Western Australia plays any of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia all in Perth,
But the Rugby League (SOO State of Origin) was originally started &/or established in the Year of (1980) between Queensland & New South Wales in which that Queensland had won & they won most of the State of Origin Rugby League Series more than New South Wales on Record & the General idea of the Rugby League State of Origin Football is that both teams of Queensland & New South Wales must play each other only (3 Three) times & for any of them they must either win (2 Two) OUT of (3 Three) Games &/or (3 Three) OUT of (Three) Games for the whole series regardless Queensland vs New South Wales in Brisbane or in some other place/s & New South Wales vs Queensland in Sydney or in some other place/s once more again as well too & Yes I am a Queenslander (Banana Bender) coming from Mount Isa originally myself & of course I do support Queensland when it comes to any (SOO State of Origin) in Rugby League Football & also in (SOO State of Origin) in Australian (Aussie) Rules Football as well too of course.
(NOTE) That both Rugby League Football State of Origins do both have of (NRL in Men's Games) & the NRLW in Women's Games).
Both of our Australian National Rugby League Football Teams which for Men's Team are actually called the Australian Kangaroos & for the Women's Team are actually called the Australian Jillaroos who played against Great Britian, France, New Zealand & Papua New Guinea & also in the Rugby League Football World Cup Tournaments as well too of course.
(NOTE) The New Zealand Men's National Rugby League Team are actually called the Kiwis & while the New Zealand Women's National Rugby League Team are actually called the Kiwi Ferns, of course.
But however, is that I DON'T Understand the mentality of why at all & for what reason/s that people actually do refer our Australian (Aussie) Rules Football Code as (Aerial Ping Pong) at all & people who told me many times verbally before i& also heard that from people before is that our Australian (Aussie) Rules Football is Aerial Ping Pong Football of course.

@LilJitBigDreamz about the Football (Footy) Codes all of Australian Rules Football, Rugby League Football, Rugby Union Football & finally Soccer (Football), which are,
For those who DISLIKE &/or HATE any Football (Footy) Code/s with a real passion would &/or will say these,
(1 One) Australian Rules Football, is referred as Aerial Ping Pong Football,
(2 Two) Rugby League Football, is referred as Thugby League Football,
(3 Three) Rugby Union Football, is referred as Thugby Union, &/or Rugby Yawnnion,
(4 Four) Football (Soccer), is referred as Wog Ball and also both Fairies &/or Queenies Game.
    (NOTE) Aerial Ping-Pong
A jocular (and frequently derisive) name for Australian Rules Football (or Aussie Rules as it is popularly called). The term derives from the fact that the play in this game is characterised by frequent exchanges of long and high kicks.
The term is used largely by people from States both of Queensland & New South Wales in which Rugby League Football and NOT Aussie Rules (Footy) Football as &/or is the major football code. This interstate and code rivalry is often found in evidence for the term, including the early evidence from the 1940s.
1947 West Australian (Perth) 22 April: In 1941 he enlisted in the A.I.F. and joined a unit which fostered rugby football. Renfrey did not join in the &oq;mud bath&cq; and did not play 'aerial ping-pong', as the rugby exponents in the army termed the Australian game, until 1946.
1973 J. Dunn, How to Play Football: Sydneysiders like to call Australian Rules 'Aerial Ping-Pong'.
But on the other hand, for those and including myself who actually do LIKE &/or LOVE any Football (Footy) Code/s with a real passion would &/or will say these, which are,
(1 One) Australian Rules Football, is referred as the real Australian Football (Footy) Code of Australia,
(2 Two) Rugby League Football, is referred as the Greatest Game of All,
(3 Three) Rugby Union Football, is referred the Game that they do Play in Heaven,
(4 Four) Football (Soccer), is referred as the Beautiful Game & the World Game & also the Real Football Code of course.

Also you're not allowed to kick other players, there is even a Kicking in Danger rule for trying to kick a ball players are trying to grab with their hands. But that's boots, not knees.
But even with safety rules, accidents and intentional strikes can happen, and even a legal Hip and Shoulder can hit like a truck when it comes in full force.

Aussie Rules is played in many countries as an amateur sport. America has the USAFL comprising 40 different leagues around the country, including a women's league. Because it's amateur, it is nowhere near as brutal as our game and is more a social game with beers and barbecues afterwards. The USAFL have just celebrated 25 years since beginning.
20-10-130 score means, 20 goals X 6 points each = 120 pts + 10 behinds (pts) = total 130 pts. Most points (not goals) wins.
Have to bounce the ball BEFORE running 15 meters, (otherwise free kick paid against you) most players bounce after a few steps to avoid running too far. Cheers. 🇦🇺🦘🐨

is that only (2 Two) Downside things about the Australian (Aussie) Rules Football Code itself for starters which are
(1 One) Australian Rules Football Code itself is (NOT) a World Cup Football Code at all just UNLIKE the other (3 Three) World Cup Football Codes which are (1 One) Football (Soccer) Code, Rugby League Football Code & Rugby Union Football Code of course.
(2 Two) Australian (Aussie) Rules Football Code is also (NOT) even an Olympic Games Sport at all just UNLIKE the (2 Two) other Olympic Football Codes which are both of (1One) Football (Soccer) Code, (2 Two) Rugby Union Football Code of course.
But however, that Rugby Union Football is being played in the Olympic (7 Sevens) Competitions at the Olympic Games.
& I do believe that sometime in future of years to come is that the Rugby League Football Code itself away over the Australian (Aussie) Rules Football Code itself just by a country mile would have a better chance become an Olympic Sport because of the Rugby League Olympic (9 Nines) Competitions of course.
