  • Join me as I winter hike the 90 miles of the Dales High Way which is in the Dales National Park, North Yorkshire. This video covers the exhilarating days one and two across the moors starting at Saltaire and resting at Settle.
( Please help the channel, buy me a coffee here } ko-fi.com/ambl... )
We start at the model mill village of Saltaire with the path running alongside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Within a relatively short distance we leave the tow path and follow a footpath that takes us over the River Aire. This path begins to rise above the urban landscape in the direction of the moors. However, first we follow Loadpit Beck passing through Trench Woods. Eventually, we rise on to the famous Ilkeley Moor where we come across the stone circle of the Twelve Apostles. We observe the mist enveloping Ilkley town whilst we stand in glorious sunshine witnessing the trees casting their shadows onto the mist below.
Now we head away from Ilkley and follow the ridge below Rombalds Moor. We cross many fields passing through Addingham and joining the path that is referred to as the Rombalds Way. This is an old Roman Road which became a Turnpike Road 1755 to 1803. Eventually we desend into Skipton and our first day ends.
Early start to day two with sunlight finding us on Sharp Haw. Next we head through Flasby and follow Flasby Beck. Next we are the very straight Moor Lane which was constructed for Winterburn Reserv. Eventually, we get to Gordale Scar which is a minor detour from the main route. Here we admire the majestic cliffs and waterfall. Then we next visit Malham Cove which has limestone steps for us to admire. We pass through a dramatic landscape over the next couple of hours before descending into the market town of Settle where we end our second day.

Dales High way looks better than the Dales way, which i attempted a few years ago in a February, first day i went over 3 times in the mud, by the end of the second day I called it quits lol

Interesting comment, I wonder how they compare and was thinking of doing Dales Way but did wonder about when to do it due to the low level suspected would be muddy as you confirmed. Maybe later in the year. Cheers

Did this trail last summer, I thought it was a great trail, and I was lucky enough to meet one of the creators in Saltaire before i started.
I'm looking forward to part two

Nice videos, but a bit too much commentary/exposition for me. Maybe replace some of the commentary & exposition with more captions?🙂

Thanks for taking the time to provide the feedback. Will consider how to strike the right balance between commentary and captions. Just about to start editing another series will try and incorporate your feedback. Cheers

@@AmblingTrails I love the commentary as you are softly spoken and intelligent in your vids only speaking when necessary.

Really enjoy your vids and your commentary as you walk. The only issues I have are with that bloody horrible music in the back ground. Not only is it repetitive its also unnecessary . Loads of hikers plunder the youtube library for annoying tunes when we could be listening to the sounds of the countryside.

    • @AmblingTrails

Hi Mick, thanks for the feedback. I somewhat agree with you! However, I'm constantly battling with the wind in the countryside, which blows out the audio especially above 10 mph. I've literally spent hundreds of pounds to try and improve the capture of 'the sounds of the countryside' as that's what I enjoy as well, so I will continue to pursue this ideal. Most small channels will use the UT library as it's free and you don't have to navigate any copyright issues. Now that I've reached 1k subscribers I'm just considering the cost benefit of other audio libraries, so maybe at least the music selection will improve if I have to use music. The other alternative is silence, but the engagement score go down on YT and then the video and channel will stop being promoted by YT. I don't think I will ever stop using music completely, but I certainly would like to reduce the need. Cheers, Nigel

Hi Mick, as it happens recently did a hike in the Lakes and had glorious weather which really showed off the countryside. The wind was minimal even on the high fells. So with your words ringing in my head when I came to edit the video, no horrible music was added in the background. Hope you enjoy this ruclips.net/video/cc6-Dp27n58/видео.html and thanks for your feedback. Nigel
